Newly designed structure of a thin ultrasonic rotary motor was proposed. Thin brass plate was used as a cross shaped vibrator and eight ceramic plates were attached on the upper and bottom sides of the brass plate as in Figure 1. The thin type ultrasonic motor has the structure adherent piezoelectric ceramic on the top and bottom surface of the thin elastic body. The direction of polarization is decided so as to occur the elliptical displacement in regular sequence at touch point A, B, C and D of stator contacted with rotor. By applying two electric fields which have 90 degree phase difference on the ceramics, each contact points make rotational displacements as in figure 2. Finite element analysis program ATILA was used to find the optimal size of the stator. As a result of the simulation, elliptical displacements of the tips were obtained at off-resonance frequencies. The maximum displacements of the contact tips were obtained at the length of 16[mm], width of 6[mm] and thickness of 0.4[mm]. Changes of the resonance frequencies were inversely proportional to the length of ceramic and proportional to the width of ceramic. Elliptical motions of the contact tips. of the stator were consistently obtained at off resonance frequencies. From a prototype motor, speed of 600[rpm] was obtained at 20[Vrms].
In this paper, we manufactured high flux LED module with Through Hole type. and we measured electrical, optical and thermal properties by driving type. LED module was composed with 8*8 arrangement form by using the glass epoxy PCB. Also, we measured the most suitable driving type with static voltage driving type and static current driving type. As a result, the LED Module of static voltage driving type showed high luminance characteristic than the static current driving type by suppling enough bias. However, the static current driving type showed more stable driving properties because of fast decreasing properties about brightness by increasing the surrounding temperature in the static voltage driving type. Also, due to Quantum confined Stark effect from piezoelectric field, the wavelength of bule peak shifted to long wavelength direction by increasing the surrounding temperature in the static voltage driving type.

The ultrasonic motor have recently begun to be used for certain unique practical utilizations in the fields of industrial medical consumer and automotive applications. Ultrasonic motor stimulated to ultrasonic oscillations by piezoelectrics to drive a rotor via friction contact. The metal and ceramic composite component was used as the stator element to generate ultrasonic vibrations. The ultrasonic motor used here was the windmill type ultrasonic motor operated by single-phase AC source. The windmill type ultrasonic motors has only three components; a stator element of two windmill shape slotted metal endcaps a rotor and a bearing. In this paper a prototype motor with 11.35 mm diameter was fabricated then relationship between the pressing force applied to a rotor and the rotation characteristic of windmill type ultrasonic motor are investigated when stator’s slots was changed from 4, 6, 8 and thickness changed from 0.15, 0.20 mm, respectively. Optimum pressing force applied to a rotor in the six stators was 1.2 mN.

In this paper, we implemented a polarimetric vibration sensor using a Sagnac birefringence interferometer composed of polarization-maintaining photonic crystal fiber(PM-PCF). By changing the amplitude and frequency of vibration applied to PM-PCF employed as the sensor head of the proposed sensor, sensor responses to various types of vibration were investigated. First, the vibration characteristic of the sensor was explored for a single frequency in a frequency range from 1 to 3000Hz with a cylindrical piezoelectric transducer, and then the sensor response to naturally damped vibration was examined by utilizing a metal cantilever. It was experimentally observed that the sensor output signal was deteriorated by more than 3dB at ~1900Hz in the single frequency vibration measurement with a minimum detectable strain perturbation of ${\sim}1.34n{\varepsilon}/Hz^{1/2}$ at 1500Hz and the peak value of the sensor output signal was proportional to the strength of initially applied stress in the naturally damped vibration measurement.

Chemical mechanical polishing(CMP) process was studied in terms of tribology in this paper. CMP performed by the down force and the relative motion of pad and wafer with the slurry is typically tribological system composed of friction, wear and lubrication. The piezoelectric quartz sensor for friction force measurement was installed and the friction force was detected during CMP process. Various coefficient of friction was attained and analyzed with the kind of pad, abrasive and the abrasive concentration. The lubrication regime is also classified with ${\eta}v/p(\eta,\;v\;and\;p;$ the viscosity, relative velocity and pressure). Especially, the co-relation not only between the friction force and the removal per unit distance but also between the coefficient of friction and within-wafer-nonuniformity was estimated.

In the area of optoelectronic devices based on GaN and related ternary compounds, the two-dimensional system like as quantum wells (QWs) has been investigated as an effective structure for improving the light-emitting efficiency. Generally, the quantum well active regions in III-nitride light-emitting diodes grown on conventional c-plane sapphire substrates have critical problems given by the quantum confined Stark effect (QCSE) due to the effects of strong piezoelectric and spontaneous polarizations. However, the QWs grown on nonpolar templates are free from the QCSE since the polar-axis lies within the growth plane of the template. Also the unique characteristic of linear polarized light emission from nonpolar QW structures is attracting attentions because it is proper to the application of back-light units of liquid crystal display. In this study, we characterized optical properties of the a-plane InGaN/GaN QW structures by temperature-dependent photoluminescence (TDPL) measurements. From the photoluminescence (PL) spectrum measured at 300 K, green emission centered at 520 nm was observed for the QW region. Since indium incorporation on nonpolar QWs is lower than that on c-plane, this high indium-doping on a-plane InGaN QWs is not common. Therefore, the effect of high indium composition on optical properties in a-plane InGaN QWs will be extensively studied.
The piercing process of creating holes in sheet metals for mechanical fastening generates high shear force. Real-time monitoring technology could predict tool damage and product defects due to this severe condition, but there are few applications for piercing high-strength aluminum. In this study, we analyzed the load signal to predict the punch's wear level during the process with a piezoelectric sensor installed piercing tool. Experiments were conducted on Al6061 T6 with a thickness of 3.0 mm using piercing punches whose edge angle was controlled by reflecting the wear level. The piercing load increases proportionally with the level of tool wear. For example, the maximum piercing load of the wear-shaped punch with the tip angle controlled at 6 degrees increased by 14% compared to the normal-shaped punch under the typical clearance of 6.7% of the aluminum piercing tool. In addition, the tool wear level increased compression during the down-stroke, which is caused by lateral force due to the decrease in the diameter of pierced holes. Our study showed the predictability of the wear level of punches through the recognition of changes in characteristic elements of the load signal during the piercing process.

Cavitation erosion-corrosion implies damage to materials due to the shock pressure or shock wave that results when bubbles form and collapse at a metal surface within a liquid. If the liquid is corrosive to the material, a condition typically encountered in industry, the component materials may suffer serious damage by a combination of mechanical and electrochemical attack. In this study, the mild steel(SS41) was tested by using the piezoelectric vibrator with 20kHz, 24$\mu$m to cavity generation apparatus. The damage behaviour of vibration cavitation erosion-corrosion and the environment characteristics were investigated in various solutions which are seawater, tap water and distilled water. The main results obtained are as follows; 1) The cavitation erosion-corrosion damage behaviour in the seawater increases to occur at the equal degree on the middle portion and the outside portion of specimen. The distilled water specimen, on other hand, occurs beginning on the outside portion across to the middle portion of specimen. 2) The cavitation erosion-corrosion damage in the tap water of low specific resistance more increases than that in the distilled water of high specific resistance at the initial testing time and more decreases than that in it by the CaCO sub(3) film with testing time. 3) Cavitation erosion-corrosion damage characteristic divides into four regions; incubation region, acceleration region, deceleration region and steady state region.

In this study, a power driver for actuating PVDF film that has the characteristic of dramatic impedance change caused by size and operating frequency variation was developed to dehyance rate of dredged sediment. In order to supply maximum energy to the PVDF film, a full-bridge circuit implemented using IGBT with a R-L-PVDF film impedance matching circuit was designed and constructed. the dehydration capabilities of the PVDF film actuated by the developed driver cleary was tested for dredged sediment. It was found that the PVDF film actuated by the developed driver cleary enhanced dehydration, avout three times faster during the first 3 minutes, compared to natural dehydration. The result of the experiment confirmed that the developed power driver for actuating Pvdf film could be used effectively for dehydration of dredged sediment.

This work takes place in the context of the development of a transport phenomena simulation based on group III nitrides. Gallium and boron nitrides (GaN and BN) are both materials with interesting physical properties; they have a direct band gap and are relatively large compared to other semiconductors. The main objective of this paper is to study the effect of boron content on the electron transport of the ternary compound $B_xGa_{(1-x)}N$ and the effect of the temperature of this alloy at x=50% boron percentage, specifically the piezoelectric, acoustic, and polar optical scatterings as a function of the energy, and the electron energy and drift velocity versus the applied electric field for different boron compositions ($B_xGa_{(1-x)}N$), at various temperatures for $B_{0.5}Ga_{0.5}N$. Monte carlo simulation, was employed and the three valleys of the conduction band (${\Gamma}$, L, X) were considered to be non-parabolic. We focus on the interactions that do not significantly affect the behavior of the electron. Nevertheless, they are introduced to obtain a quantitative description of the electronic dynamics. We find that the form of the velocity-field characteristic changes substantially when the temperature is increased, and a remarkable effect is observed from the boron content in $B_xGa_{(1-x)}N$ alloy and the applied field on the dynamics of holders within the lattice as a result of interaction mechanisms.
