The Piezoelectric Properties of (Na0.5K0.5)NbO3-K5.4Cu1.3Ta10O29 Ceramics with Various K5.4Cu1.3Ta10O29 Doping and Sintering Temperatures

  • (1-X)$(Na_{0.5}K_{0.5})NbO_3-XK_{5.4}Cu_{1.3}Ta_{10}O_{29}$ (NKN-KCT) lead-free piezoelectric ceramics have been synthesized by the conventional solid state sintering method, and their sinterability and piezoelectric properties were investigated. Typically, this material is sintered between 1,025 and $1,100^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours to achieve the required densification. Crystalline structures and Microstructures were analyzed by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope. The density, dielectric constant (${\varepsilon}_r$), piezoelectric constant $d_{33}$, electromechanical coupling factor $k_p$ and mechanical quality factor $Q_m$ value of the NKN ceramics depended upon the KCT content and the sintering temperature. In particular, the KCT addition to NKN greatly improved the mechanical quality factor $Q_m$ value. The ceramic with X = 1.0 mol% sintered at $1,050^{\circ}C$ exhibited optimum properties (${\varepsilon}_r$=246, $d_{33}$=95, $k_p$=0.38 and $Q_m$=1,826). These results indicate that the ceramic is a promising candidate material for applications in lead free piezoelectric transformer and filter materials.

Step-down Piezoelectric Transformer Using PZT PMNS Ceramics

  • Piezoelectric transformers(PT) are expected to be small, thin and highly efficient, and which are attractive as a transformer with high power density for step down voltage. For these reasons, we have attempted to develop a step-down PT for the miniaturized adaptor. We propose a PT, operating in thickness extensional vibration mode for step-down voltage. This PT consists of a multi-layered construction in the thickness direction. In order to develop the step-down PT of 10 W class and turn ratio of 0.1 with high efficiency and miniaturization, the piezoelectric ceramics and PT designs are estimated with a variety of characteristics. The basic composition of piezoelectric ceramics consists of ternary yPb(Zr$_{x}$Ti$_{1-x}$)O$_{3}$-(1-y)Pb(Mn$_{1/3}$Nb1$_{1/3}$Sb$_{1/3}$)O$_{3}$. In the piezoelectric characteristics evaluations, at y=0.95 and x=0.505, the electromechanical coupling factor(K$_{p}$) is 58$\%$, piezoelectric strain constant(d$_{33}$) is 270 pC/N, mechanical quality factor(Qr$_{m}$) is 1520, permittivity($\varepsilon$/ 0) is 1500, and Curie temperature is 350 $^{\circ}C$. At y = 0.90 and x = 0.500, kp is 56$\%$, d33 is 250 pC/N, Q$_{m}$ is 1820, $\varepsilon$$_{33}$$^{T}$/$\varepsilon$$_{0}$ is 1120, and Curie temperature is 290 $^{\circ}C$. It shows the excellent properties at morphotropic phase boundary regions. PZT-PMNS ceramic may be available for high power piezoelectric devices such as PTs. The design of step-down PTs for adaptor proposes a multi-layer structure to overcome some structural defects of conventional PTs. In order to design PTs and analyze their performances, the finite element analysis and equivalent circuit analysis method are applied. The maximum peak of gain G as a first mode for thickness extensional vibration occurs near 0.85 MHz at load resistance of 10 .The peak of second mode at 1.7 MHz is 0.12 and the efficiency is 92$\%$.

  • 본 논문은 압전 세라믹스 재료를 사용한 장방형 압전 변압기의 승압특성에 관한 연구이다. 승압기구 분석을 위하여 진동모드에 따른 주파수 Spectrum을 구동부측곽 발전부측에 대해 각각 조사하였다. 시편구조(전극길이, 두께, 폭)에 따른 진동상태와 승압비를 평가하고 압전 변압기로써 가져야 될 최적조건을 제시하였다. 또한 부하저항에 병렬로 연결된 등가손실저항과 발전부 공진임피던스 사이의 관련성을 검토하였다.

  • Sintering characteristics and electrical properties of xPb(Mg$_{1}$8/Te$_{1}$8/Mn$_{1}$4/Nb$_{1}$2/) $O_{3}$-(1-x) Pb (Zr$_{1}$2/ $Ti_{1}$2/) $O_{3}$ (x=0.075, 0.1, 0.125) ceramics are investigated. A sintering temperature of ceramics could be reduced to 950.deg. C by a reaction between PbO and B site compound material. The physical properties of 0.1Pb(Mg, Te, Mn, Nb) $O_{3}$ - 0.9Pb(Zr, Ti) $O_{3}$ bulk ceramic with 3wt% glass frit(0.857PbO-0.143W $O_{3}$) were following : den = 7.95 g/cm$^{3}$, T$_{c}$=340.deg. C, .epsilon.$_{33}$= 754, k$_{31}$=0.3 and Q.=1780. The 3-layer piezoelectric transformer by using a tape casting method showed a good monolithic structure, and its voltage setup ratio was 2.5 times higher than that of a single device by using bulk ceramics.s.s.

  • (1-X) $(Na_{0.5}K_{0.5})NbO_3-X$ $K_4CuNb_8O_{23}$ (NKN-X KCN) ceramics were produced using the conventional solid state sintering method, and their sinterability and electric properties were investigated. The density, dielectric constant (${\varepsilon}_r$), piezoelectric constant $d_{33}$, electromechanical coupling factor $k_p$ and mechanical quality factor $Q_m$ value of the NKN ceramics depended upon the KCN content and the sintering temperature. In particular, the KCN addition to the NKN greatly improved the mechanical quality factor $Q_m$ value. The ceramic with X = 2.0 mol% sintered at $1,150^{\circ}C$ possesses the optimum properties (${\varepsilon}_r=241$, $d_{33}=78$, $k_p=0.34$ and $Q_m=1,121$). These results indicate that the ceramic is a promising candidate material for applications in lead free piezoelectric transformer and filter materials.

고출력 압전 디바이스 응용을 위한 PZ-PT-PMN계 압전 세라믹의 특성 (The Characteristics of PZ-PT-PWN Piezoelectric Ceramics for Application to High Power Device)

  • The piezoelectric properties and the doping effect for$0.95Pb(Zr_xTi_{1-x})O_3+0.05Pb(Mn1/3Nb2/3)O_3$ compositions were studied. Also, the heat generation and the change of electromechanical characteristics, the important problem in practical usage, were investigated under high electric field driving. As a experiment results under low electric field, the values of kp and $\varepsilon33T$ were maximized, but Qm was minimized(Kp=0.57, Qm=1550) in the composition of x=0.51. In order to increase the values of Qm $Nb_2O_5$ was used as a dopant. As the result of that, the grain size was suppressed and the uniformity of grain was improved. Also, the values of kp decreased, and the values of Qm increased with doping concentration of $Nb_2O_5$. As a experiment results under high electric field driving, when vibration velocity was lower than 0.6[m/s], the temperature increase was $20[^{\circ}C]$, and the change ratio of mechanical quality factor was less than 10[%]. So, its electromechanical characteristics was very stable. Conclusively, piezoelectric ceramic composition investigated at this paper is suitable for application to high power piezoelectric devices.

  • CCFL(Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) are used to backlight of LCD(Liquid Crystal Display). This paper presents analysis of half-bridge type resonant inverter of CCFL drive in order to stable characteristics, and fluorescent lamp operation frequency is higher than resonant frequency for safe operation. Besides, The Piezoelectric ceramic transformer (PZT) is electro-mechanical device that transfers electrical energy through a mechanical vibration. The modified equivalent circuit model of the PZT considering the operating current level is derived to design the CCFL. The validity of this study was confirmed from the simulation and experiential result.
