Improvement of Seismic Performance Evaluation Method for Concrete Dam Piers by Applying Collapse-Level Earthquake(CLE) (붕괴방지수준(CLE)을 적용한 콘크리트 댐 피어부 내진성능평가 방안 개선)

  • The purpose of this paper is to suggest a method for applying a reasonable dam axial seismic load loading method and load-bearing capacity evaluation method in the dynamic analysis of the pier part of a concrete dam to which the seismic force of the collapse prevention level is applied. To this end, the pier part of a concrete dam was selected as a target facility, and the characteristics of the dynamic behavior in the axial direction of the weir dam were analyzed through dynamic analysis applying various weir widths, and 'U.S. The load-bearing capacity evaluation was performed by applying the RC hydraulic structure evaluation technique suggested by the Army Corps, 2007'. As a result of the study, when applying seismic force in the axial direction of the pier part, it is more realistic to assume that the axial direction of the weir part dam behaves as a rigid body and 'U.S. Army Corps, 2007' suggested that the method of reviewing the load-bearing capacity for moment and shear was considered reasonable, so it was concluded that improvement of the current evaluation method was necessary. If the improvement of the research result is applied, it will have the effect of deriving more reasonable evaluation results than the current seismic performance evaluation method using CLE. It is judged that additional research is needed in the future on the torsional moment occurring in the pier part.

Scour Impact on the Horizontal Bearing Capacity of Pier-Type Dolphin Structures (잔교식 돌핀 구조물의 수평 지지력에 세굴이 미치는 영향 검토)

  • A study using numerical analysis techniques was conducted to examine the scour effect of pier-type dolphin structures installed in the domestic marine environment, and the effect of scour on horizontal bearing capacity was examined. In this study, we designed the berthing structures, taking into account the environmental and ground conditions of the target maritime area, and after calculating the predicted scour area, stability evaluation was performed by removing the ground elements of the area. The increase in scour depth was found to induce a direct decrease in horizontal bearing capacity due to soil loss in contact with the foundation, establishing a relationship that increases horizontal displacement. However, in the foundation designed to withstand the design load by reflecting the safety rate, the increase in horizontal displacement formed by possible scour is not large, which did not have a dominant effect on the horizontal bearing capacity of the foundation. In the future, research is required to analyze the impact of each factor and formalize evaluation and design techniques to evaluate the scour safety of marine foundations and pier-type structures installed in various ground conditions and structural formats.

Constructing Database and Probabilistic Analysis for Ultimate Bearing Capacity of Aggregate Pier (쇄석다짐말뚝의 극한지지력 데이터베이스 구축 및 통계학적 분석)

  • In load and resistance factor design (LRFD) method, resistance factors are typically calibrated using resistance bias factors obtained from either only the data within ${\pm}2{\sigma}$ or the data except the tail values of an assumed probability distribution to increase the reliability of the database. However, the data selection approach has a shortcoming that any low-quality data inadvertently included in the database may not be removed. In this study, a data quality evaluation method, developed based on the quality of static load test results, the engineering characteristics of in-situ soil, and the dimension of aggregate piers, is proposed for use in constructing database. For the evaluation of the method, a total 65 static load test results collected from various literatures, including static load test reports, were analyzed. Depending on the quality of the database, the comparison between bias factors, coefficients of variation, and resistance factors showed that uncertainty in estimating bias factors can be reduced by using the proposed data quality evaluation method when constructing database.

Structural Performance Evaluation of Offshore Modular Pier Connection using Ultra-high Performance Concrete (초고성능 콘크리트를 활용한 해상 모듈러 잔교 연결부의 구조성능 평가)

  • In this study, offshore modular pier system using the ultra-high performance concrete was developed for the offshore construction environment. For the application of offshore modular pier system, the design, fabrication, and construction performance evaluation were performed using ultra-high performance concrete a compressive strength 120 MPa or more and a direct tensile strength 7 MPa or more. For offshore piers previously constructed with precast concrete, it was intended to verify the idea and possibility of solving errors due to position or vertical deformation during the driving of the foundation pile part during the construction stage. Furthermore, a offshore modular pier system was fabricated with ultra-high performance concrete for the construction performance evaluation. The results showed that a offshore modular pier system secured about 9 % of sectional performance of load bearing capacity under ultimate load conditions. If the offshore modular pier system developed through this study is utilized in the future, it is judged that competitiveness due to sufficient durability and constructability can be secured.
