A highly sensitive magnetic sensor using the Giant MagnetoImpedance effect has been developed. The sensor performance is studied and estimated. The sensor circuitry consists of a square wave generator (driving source), a sensing element in a form of composite wire of a 25 $\mu$m copper core electrodeposited with a thin layer of soft magnetic material ($Ni_{80}Fe_{20}$), and two amplifier stages for improving the gain, switching mechanism, scaler circuit, an AC power source driving the permeability of the magnetic coating layer of the sensing element into a dynamic state, and a signal pickup LC circuit formed by a pickup coil and an capacitor. Experimental studies on sensor have been carried out to investigate the key parameters in relation to the sensor sensitivity and resolution. The results showed that for high sensitivity and resolution, the frequency and magnitude of the ac driving current through the sensing element each has an optimum value, the resonance frequency of the signal pickup LC circuit should be equal to or twice as the driving frequency on the sensing element, and the anisotropy of the magnetic coating layer of the sensing wire element should be longitudinal.

In this paper we suggested the moving magnet type actuator for optical disc drive which has high frequency of flexible mode. Generally, moving magnet type actuator has the advantage for increase the frequency of flexible mode. But it has low driving sensitivity due to the weight of its moving part. To overcome this shortcoming, we designed the model with the closed electromagnetic circuit for tracking direction. In addition, we improved the driving sensitivity and frequency of flexible mode by using of DOE (design of experiment) procedure for EM circuit. Consequently, it is verified that final designed model satisfied with the desired specifications.
This paper considers a door-to-door service system in which pickups or deliveries are performed by a trip of a single vehicle. Each customer request specifies the quantity of the load transported, the location, and the time window within which it is to be picked up or delivered. Since the system is demand responsive, i.e., new or emergent requests become available in real-time, the current vehicle route has to be reconstructed to include these requests. In this case, only continuous vehicle tracking enables control over the requests and ensures that the requests are satisfied on time. This paper suggests a pilot pickup/delivery management system integrating a geographic information system(GIS) and a global position system(GPS) to efficiently deal with such a dynamic environment. The GIS offers a way of displaying the vehicle route on digital maps for the region under concerned. Also displayed is the current location of the vehicle obtained from the GPS. A heuristic algorithm is used to dynamically determine the vehicle route. A practical example is provided to show the feasibility of the system.
The single layer direct-coupled YBCO SQUID magnetometers have been fabricated and characterized for the purpose of the measurement of weak magnetic signals in unshielded environment. Two types of magnetometers have been designed and fabricated using 10 mm$\times$ 10 mm substrates. We could operate the conventional 3-mm-wide solid pickup loop magnetometers more stably than the 12-parallel-line pickup loop magnetometers in laboratory environment. We developed a first-order electronic gradiometer system using the SQUID sensors with axial displacement of 80 mm without any mechanical alignment of magnetometers. The system with a software filter using calculation of discrete Fourier transform could record clearly weak pulse signal of 100 pT in a magnetically disturbed environment.

The demands of high data transfer rate and high recording density in optical disk memory device are being increased. In order to achieve high performance, lever actuator for optical disk is proposed. Firstly, the role of lever and structure are discussed and the flexure hinge is introduced to enhance the precise movement. Next is to present the magnetic circuit structure and concept design for the lever actuator. Finally, the dynamic modeling of the lever actuator is found and the analysis results are shown. Consequently, the lever actuator shows the possibility as a pickup actuator for the next generation optical disk.

The asphericals lenses are used as objective lens of optical pickup. To examine the design factor the sample product is made before manufacturing of injection mould of lens. The optimum cutting condition of PMMA lens sample with ultra precision SPDT, he main spindle sped, the depth of cut, the feedrate are found. The demanded surface roughness 10nm Ra, aspherical form error 0.5${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ P-V for aspherical lens of optical data storage device are satisfied.

There are a lot of roots of errors in the motion of the optical pickup actuator being one of the most significant components in the CD-ROM drive. Most of the studies recently performed have a tendency to seek fur the causes from an actuator itself. We found the fact that the range of the natural frequencies of a feeding deck and an actuator is close each other through an experiment. This paper present the dynamic characteristics of an actuator affected by the motion of a feeding deck. (omitted)

A new type actuator has been designed and investigated to overcome thermal problems in slim optical disc drives adopted in mobile storage devices. As the size of optical disc drives decreases, it is more difficult to remove the heat inside a drive and the temperature of an actuator increases. As a result, the second resonance of an actuator moves down to a lower frequency band and the performance of optical parts also deteriorates. (omitted)
This paper proposes a method to determine the initial shape and size of the suspension beam of an optical pickup actuator subjected to specified dynamic characteristics. For the analysis, a simplified model consisting of a concentrated mass, rotational springs and beams is developed. Based on this model, the key dimensionless design parameters are introduced, which govern low-frequency vibration characteristics i. e., the resonant frequencies in the tracking and focusing directions. A systematic procedure for sizing and shaping the actuator suspension beams is described and applied to a sample case. The effectiveness of the present technique is verified through the comparison of the present and the finite element results.
