  • This paper proposes the efficiency optimization control of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor(IPMSM) drive using series connected-fuzzy neural network PI(SC-FNPI) controller. The PI controller is generally used to control IPMSM drive in industrial field. However, the PI controller has problem which is falling control performance about parameter variation such as command speed, load torque and inertia due to fixed gain of PI controller. Therefore, to improve performance of PI controller, this paper proposes SC-FNPI controller adjusted input of PI controller by FNN controller according to operating conditions. Also, this paper proposes efficiency optimization control which is improving efficiency with minimize loss. The SC-FNPI controller proposed in this paper is compared control performance with conventional FNN and PI controller about command speed, load torque and inertia variation. And the efficiency optimization control is compared with $i_d=0$ control about loss and efficiency. The SC-FNPI controller proposed in this paper shows more excellent control performance for rising time, overshoot and steady-state error. Also efficiency optimization control is increased efficiency by reducing loss.

  • This paper proposes a modeling and controller design approach for a wind-diesel hybrid system including dump load. Wind turbine depends on nature such as wind speed. It causes power fluctuations of wind turbine. Excessive power fluctuation at stand-alone power grid is even worse than large-scale power grid. The proposed control scheme for power quality is fuzzy PI controller. This controller has advantages of PI and fuzzy controller. The proposed model is carried out by using Matlab/Simulink simulation program. In the simulation study, the proposed controller is compared with a conventional PI controller. Simulation results show that the proposed controller is more effective against disturbances caused by wind speed and load variation than the PI controller, and thus it contributes to a better quality wind-diesel hybrid power system.

  • Three-dimensional characteristics of fluid flow and heat transfer around a wavy circular cylinder having sinusoidal variation in cross sectional area along the spanwise direction are numerically investigated using the immersed boundary method. The three different wavelengths of ${\pi}/4$, ${\pi}/3$ and ${\pi}/2$ and at the fixed wavy amplitude of 0.1 have been considered to investigate the effects of waviness on especially the forced convection heat transfer around a wavy cylinder when the Reynolds and Prandtl numbers are 300 and 0.71, respectively. The present computational results for a wavy cylinder are compared with those for a smooth cylinder. The time- and total surface-averaged Nusselt number for a wavy cylinder with is larger than that for a smooth cylinder, whereas that with ${\lambda}={\pi}/4$ and ${\pi}/3$ is smaller than that for a smooth cylinder. However, because the surface area exposed to heat transfer for a wavy cylinder is larger than that for a smooth cylinder, the total heat transfer rate for a wavy cylinder with different wavelengths of ${\lambda}={\pi}/4$, ${\pi}/3$ and ${\pi}/2$ is larger than that for a smooth cylinder.

  • The THO/TREX complex consists of several conserved subunits and is required for mRNA export. In metazoans, THO/TREX binds a subset of mRNAs during RNA splicing, and facilitates their nuclear export. How THO/TREX selects RNA targets is, however, incompletely understood. In our recent study, we reported that THO is loaded onto Piwi-interacting RNA (piRNA) precursor transcripts independent of splicing, and facilitates convergent transcription in Drosophila ovary. The precursors are later processed into mature piRNAs, small noncoding RNAs that silence transposable elements (TEs). We observed that piRNAs originating from dual-strand clusters, where precursors are transcribed from both strands, were specifically affected by THO mutation. Analysis of THO-bound RNAs showed enrichment of dual-strand cluster transcripts. Interestingly, THO loading onto piRNA precursors was dependent on Cutoff (Cuff), which comprises the Rhino-Deadlock-Cutoff (RDC) complex that is recruited to dual-strand clusters by recognizing H3K9me3 and licenses convergent transcription from he cluster. We also found that THO mutation affected transcription from dual-strand clusters. Therefore, we concluded that THO/TREX is recruited to dual-strand piRNA clusters, independent of splicing events, via multi-protein interactions with chromatin structure. Then, it facilitates transcription likely by suppressing premature termination to ensure adequate expression of piRNA precursors.

  • This experiment was performed to investigate apoptosis during undergoing patho-genesis of Salmonella gallinarum(SG)-infected chicks. 16 days old, 49 chicks was infected with SG (10$\^$6/-10$\^$8/ CFU/㎖) experimentally, they were autopsied to remove liver, spleen, intestine and lung at 1, 6, 12hr, 1, 2, 4 and 7 day post infection(PI) respectively, for H-E and TUNEL staining. Grossly, white foci in the liver and enlarged spleen were seen on 4 day PI and coppery bronze liver, dark-red discolored intestine, green-yellowish discolored and enlarged spleen was observed on 7 day PI. Histopathologically, multi focal necrosis in the liver, follicle hyperplasia in the spleen and inflammatory cells infiltration in the intestine were shown from 2 day PI and more severely observed on 4 day and 7 day PI. In TUNEL analysis, apoptotic cells reached a maximum at 6hr PI in the liver and intestine and at 12hr PI in the spleen, and then decreased the levels of controls by 7 day PI.

  • A novel flatness sensing system which is called the Flatness Sensing Inter-stand Looper(FlatSIL) system is suggested and a self-tuning PI control system using the FlatSIL is designed for improving the flatness of hot strip in finishing mill processes. The FlatSIL system measures the tension along the direction of the strip width by using segmented rolls, and the tension profile is approximated through the tension of each segmented roll. The flatness control system is operated by using the tension profile. The proposed flatness control system as far as the tension profile-measuring device works for the full strip length during the strip rolling in finishing mills. The generalized minimum variance self-tuning (GMV S-T) PI control method is applied to control the flatness of hot strip which has a design parameter as weighting factor for updating the PI gains. Optimizing the design parameter in the GMV S-T PI controller, the Robbins-Monro algorithm is used. It is shown by the computer simulation and experiment that the proposed GMV S-T PI flatness control system has better performance than the fixed PI flatness control system.

  • This paper presents an extended integral control with the PI controller by introducing the delay and decaying factors. The extended integral control scheme is developed by substituting the proportional convolution integral control for the PI(Proportional Integral) control. So far, the integral part of PI controller produces a signal that is proportional to the time integral of the input signal to the controller. The steady-state operation points are affected forever by errors in the past due to the input signal containing the information of the error in the past. These phenomena may cause some disturbances for other control purposes related to the given PI control. Introduction of forgetting factors to the error in the past can resolve the disturbance problems. Various forgetting factors are developed using the delay elements, the decaying factors, and the combination of the delay and decaying factors. The proposed various extended integral control schemes can be applicable to the corresponding PI control designs in which the error in the past may badly affect the current steady-state operation points and may cause some disturbances for other control purposes.

  • Changes in the expression level of splenocyte $IFN-{\gamma}$mRNA of Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats infected with Paragonimus westermani were analyzed by competitive reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) followed by southern blot. The template RNA was extracted from the splenocytes of rats infected with 20 metacercariae of P. westermani. The products of competitive RT-PCR were subjected to southern blot and enhanced chemiluminescence (ECL), and analyzed with a densitometer. In comparison with that of uninfected control rat splenocytes (value of 1), the levels of mRNA expression of $IFN-{\gamma}$had changed to 0.747 at 1 week post infection (PI), 0.00175 at 2 week PI, 0.0217 at 3 week PI, 0.194 at 4 week PI and then to 0.537 at 5 week PI. The level at 7 week PI had returned to 1.25, comparable with that of uninfected rats. These results show that, when infected with p. westermani, the levels of $IFN-{\gamma}$ mRNA of SD rat splenocytes were remarkably reduced by more than 500 times at 2 week PI and restored to normal level at 7 week PI.

  • Radiotherapy is one of the major therapies for cancer treatment. p53 acts as a central mediator of the cellular response to stressful stimuli, such as radiation. Recently it has been known that activation of the phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K) pathway is associated with radioresistance. In this study, we investigated whether X-irradiation up-regulates PI3K in a p53-dependent manner in human colon cancer cells. In order to study this phenomenon, we have treated p53-wild type and p53-mutant type HCT116 cells with X-ray. Treatment of wild type HCT116 cells with 8 Gy resulted in a marked increase in PI3K (p85), which paralleled an increase in PTEN, a counterpart of PI3K. However, these effects of X-rays in the p53-mutant cells were not observed. These results suggest that the X-irradiation-induced up-regulation of PI3K/PTEN pathway is p53-dependent.

  • The various compositions of polyimide (PI)/polyamideimide (PAI) composites were prepared by heat treatment of the solvent cast PI precursors/PAI blends. The optical micrographs showed that a good compatibility was observed between poly(amic acid) (PAA) and PAI, but in the case of PAME/PAI mixtures, a phase separation apparently occurred due to the absence of ionic and/or H-bonding forces. Regardless of PI precursors, the similar tensile properties were observed. The tensile modulus of the composites were higher than that of the neat polyimide. The X-ray diffraction patterns of the composites showed that the chain rearrangement of PI was increased due to the plasticizing effect of PAI, which has lower glass transition temperature than that of PI, during thermal imidization process.
