  • Balancing left/right cardiac output is essential for the automatic control of total artificial hearts(TAH). A fuzzy logic-based control method is presented. We use left atrial pressure(LAP) and right atrial pressure(RAP) as indicators for left/right balancing. The fuzzy controller has four input variables which are measured LAP and RAP and their gradients. Desired variations in left cardiac output(LCO) and right cardiac output(RCO) are calculated to keep LAP and RAP within the Physiological limits. Computer simulations were performed to adjust fuzzy membership functions for variables and verify this control method. Results from simulations showed that LAP and RAP returned to the physiological limits while AoP and PAP stayed within the physiological limits.

  • This paper describes the implementation of a multi-subject, multi-channel optical telemetry system for the short range measurement of electrocardiograms (EKGs) a system which receives command signals and transmits physiological signals to the external system using LED (Light Emitting Diode) and PD (Photodiode). This system decreases the dependency of power supply voltage to the CMOS IC chips and a new enforced synchronization technique using infrared bi-directional communication has also been proposed. The telemetry IC with the size of $5.1{\times}5.1mm^2$ has the following functions: receiving of command signal, initialization of internal state of all functional blocks, decoding of subject selection signal, time division multiplexing of 4-channel modulated physiological signals, transmission of modulated signals to external system, and auto power down control.

  • Medications or conitive-behavior methods have been mainly used as a treatment of alcoholism. lately the virtualy technology has been applied to the kink of alcoholic disorders. A virtual environment makes him having avility to over come the drink. In this study, we were implemented by making panorama images and 3D object modules using 3D MAX, VRML, JAVA. And the BAR stimulator that composed with a position sensor, head mount display, and audio system, is suggested. To illustrate the physiological difference between a person who has a alcoholism and without a liquor bottle, heart rate was measured during experiment, and also measured a person's HR after the virtual reality training. The system measures the Physiological signals such as ECG, Temperature, analyzes those data automatically. The system has two parts, one is physiological data acquisition part which gets the body signal, and the other one is mobile nuit which includes signal processing and transmission functions, And Bluetooth allows two parts to communicate with each other. we demonstrated the subjective effectiveness of virtual reality psychotherapy through the clinical experiment.

  • The promyelocytic leukemia (PML) gene is a gene known to be a tumor suppressor, although recent data suggest that it has a dual function in tumorigenesis. It was initially discovered in acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) in which a t(15; 17) chromosomal translocation fused it to the retinoic acid receptor alpha ($RAR{\alpha}$). It has been shown to be involved in various types of cancer. It has at least 6 nuclear isoforms and a cytoplasmic type with different characteristics. Its multiple functions in growth inhibition, apoptosis induction, replicative senescence, inhibition of oncogenic transformation, and suppression of migration and angiogenesis have made it a therapeutic target for cancer therapy. However, its dual role in the process of tumorigenesis has made this field challenging. In this review, we discuss PML structure, functions and expression in tumors.

  • The Pye is one of the organs in oriental medicine, which has functions of controlling Ki. The Lungs is also a organ that has a function of respiration, in western medicne. Ki means the air in the first notion. Therefore, the functions of the Lungs and Pye are no differences. However, Ki doesn't mean the air only. Respiration in western medicne has two meanings. One of them is a external respiration, ang the other is a cellular respiration. In that process, the Lungs supervise oxygen and oxidation of protein, carbohydrate and fat and prduce ATP as energy. Two of Functions in Ki are Choodong(推動;Tuidong) and Onhoo(溫煦;Wenxu). Choodong means making energy ang Onhoo means making heat, that indicate a similarity functions of Pye and Lungs from the view of making energy.

  • This paper documents a study of the physiology of the lung. The aim of this paper is to better comprehend the physiological function of lung. To this end, the relationship between the physiological function of the lung and the characteristics of the 'Keum Un Qi Hua'(金運氣化), and the functional changes of the lung and its surrounding physiological systems have been studied in their relationship to the concept of the organism as a whole. The results of this study are as follows; The function of the lung is comprehended as corresponding to the 'Keum Un Qi Hua'. In visceral phenomenon, the lung has specific relations with the large intestine(大腸), nase(鼻), skin and hair(皮毛), sweat gland(汗孔), nasal mucus(涕), spirit(氣魄), grief and melancholy(憂 悲), the lung channel of hand-taiyin(手太陰肺經), the large intestine channel of hand-yangming(手陽明大腸經). This is called ‘the physiological systems of the lung’, and because these mutual relations reflect the functional changes of the lung, it is applied as the elementary knowledge to diagnose and treat the lung. For instance, a deficiency of the 'Qi‘ of the lung brings on an unconsolidated defending energy whose manifestations are sweating spontaneously as well as being susceptible to the common cold due to a diability in fighting against external pathogenic factors. Invasion of the lung by external pathogenic factors blocks the movement of the 'Qi' of the lung, which results in nasal obstraction. watery nasal discharge and a hyposmia. So the physiological functions and pathological changes of the lung can be determined by observing ’the physiological systems of the lung‘ based on the precepts of oriental medicine. As a result, the function of the lung is to be understood based on the characteristics of the 'Keum Un Qi Hua'. Furthermore we can know that the physiological systems of the lung mirrors the functional changes of the lung.

  • The physiological functions of drinking water in chicken were reviewed. The effects of ambient temperature, humidity, wind velocity, egg productivity, feed form, nutrients density, and breed types on the water consumption of chicken were summarized and discussed. Some guidelines for management of drinking water in commercial poultry farms were also suggested.
