In this study, we have investigated the purification characteristics of quartz which size was 0.1mm to 0.3 mm by using physical separation techniques. The A and B samples which contained 95,864 mg/kg and 4,568 mg/kg of impurities were reduced upto 126 mg/kg and 174 mg/kg of impurities, respectively. So, removal ratios of the total impurities were about 97.85 wt.% and 96.19 wt.%, individually. At that time, the yields of the purified quartz (over 99.98 wt.% $SiO_2$) were 79.05 wt.% and 75.43 wt.% by using purification process including magnetic separation, gravity separation and scrubbing process. The most benefit in purification process of both different raw materials for iron element can be achieved by magnetic separation. Also, gravity separation is extremely successful for reducing aluminium element.
The experimental study reported herein was to investigate to separation characteristics of a tangential flow membrane in a continuous recycle situation. Physical and dynamic analyses are performed on the membrane system in order to relate relevant variables to the capacity of separation. The results of separation process may be summarized by a proposed equation:Sh=A(Re.Sc.dh/L)1/3. It was shown also by the analyses that effective separation of sugar and cell was attainable by means of tangential membranes, thereby enhancing ethanol productivity in fermentation with continuous cell and substrate recycle.
Three types of experiments, based on the physical properties of oily sludge landfilled soil, were conducted to recover total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) from the soil. These experiments included gravity separation, solvent extraction using water, and air floatation. The oil portion was not easily separated from the wet (raw) soil because water molecules aggregate the soil particles, despite the fact that the soil was sandy. However, the drying and grinding processes destroyed the aggregates, causing the TPH recovery to increase to approximately 60% when air floatation was used. The drying process decreased the specific gravity of the soil sample, thereby enhancing the overall recovery of TPH from the soil. Although thermal desorption and/or incineration are common choices for heavily dumped sites, physical separation can recover the oil portion instead of simply removing it.
This study evaluated the feasibility of combined use of physical separation and soil washing to remediate heavy metals (Pb and Cu) contaminated soil in a military shooting range. The soils were classified into two types based on the level of heavy metal concentrations: a higher contaminated soil (HCS) with Pb and Cu concentrations of 6,243 mg/kg and 407 mg/kg, respectively, and a lower contaminated soil (LCS) with their concentrations of 1,658 mg/kg and 232 mg/kg. Pb level in both soils exceeded the regulatory limit (700 mg/kg), and its concentration generally increased with decreasing soil particle size. However, in some cases, Pb concentrations increased with increasing soil particle size, presumably due to the presence of residues of bullets in the soil matrix. As a pretreatment step, a shaking table was used for physical separation of soil to remove bullet residues while fractionating the contaminated soils into different sizes. The most effective separation and fractionation were achieved at vibration velocity of 296 rpm/min, the table slope of 7.0°, and the separating water flow rate of 23 L/min. The efficiency of ensuing soil washing process for LCS was maximized by using 0.5% HCl with the soil:washing solution mixing ratio of 1:3 for 1 hr treatment. On the contrary, HCS was most effectively remediated by using 1.0% HCl with the same soil:solution mixing ratio for 3 hr. This work demonstrated that the combined use of physical separation and soil washing could be a viable option to remediate soils highly contaminated with heavy metals.
Background: Rasch analysis has the advantage of placing both the items and the person along a single ratio scale and calibrates person ability and item difficulty onto an interval scale by logits. Therefore, Rasch analysis has been recommended as a better method for evaluating functional outcome questionnaires than traditional analyses. Objects: The aim of current study was to investigate item fit, item difficulty, rating scale, and separation index of the Korean version of the Fullerton Advanced Balance (KFAB) scale using Rasch analysis. Methods: In total, 93 patients with stroke (male=58, female=35) participated in this study. To investigate the item fit, difficulty, rating scale, and separation index of the KFAB scale, Rasch analysis was completed by the Winsteps software program. Results: In this study, all items of the KFAB scale were included in the Rasch model. The most difficult item was 'standing with feet together and eyes closed', and the easiest item was 'two-footed jump'. The rating scale was a 4-point scale instead of the original 5-point scale. Person and item separation indices showed high values that can identify a person with a wide range of balance ability. Conclusion: The KFAB scale appears to be a reliable and valid tool to assess balance function in patients with stroke. Furthermore, the scale was found to discriminate among stroke patients of varying balance abilities.
The paper presents results of a study on the selective separation technology of ferrous and non-ferrous metals from broken light bulbs. The proposed method is to use magnetic fluids to obtain a magnetic fluid based- separation. [1] The study was conducted using three types of waste materials: regular light bulbs, auto light bulbs and neon tubes. In order to process the waste materials, a six stages technologic flow was developed: a) separation of light bulbs components; b) Physical and chemical analysis of raw materials; c) grain conditioning of the raw material; d) dry magnetic separation of ferrous components; e) magnetic fluid separation of non-magnetic material; f) recovery of the magnetic fluid adhered to the surface of the separated material grains. [2] This study shows that magnetic fluid separation is only profitable for regular and auto light bulbs and is not profitable in the case of neon tubes.
Various amount of $P_2O_5$ were added to $PbO-B_2O_3$ binary glass system to investigate its effect on the phase separation and physical properties of the glass. Experiments such as infrared spectroscopy scanning electron microscopy thermal expansion softening point and microhardnesses were done. Phase separation with $B_2O_3$ rich phase matrix and PbO rich phase droplet was observed for the glasses con-taining less than 10m/o of PbO while the opposite morphology of phase separation for the glasses containing more than 11m/o of PbO. By adding increasing amount of $P_2O_5$ their phase separation region was extended to the glass containing more than 20m/o of PbO. These effects can be interpreted in terms of the inoic field strength difference of each ions in the glasses. The abrupt changes of physical properties such as softening point thermal expansion and microhardness were observed for the glass with around 10m/o of PbO in this system. These changes are by the matrix composition change from TEX>$B_2O_3$ rich phase to PbO rich phase depending on PbO concentration.
When we considered the superior ability of the semi-water soluble urethane 1st transcription and final epoxy products, the stability for moving historic sites depend on physical properties and the peel off state of separation media. In this paper, we synthesised three type of water-borne epoxy solution without using a surfactant, and investigated the peel off state, physical properties, and the state between urethane surface and epoxy surface after exfoliation. The life time of water-borne separation media is over the 60 days. When it is used the 30% solution of water-borne separation media, it made good separation of urethane pre-products surface and epoxy final product surface and no color change. The separation tension pressure is about 15~50 kg/$cm^2$ and there is no surface whitewash phenomenon. We suggest that this water-borne epoxy will be best material as separation media of low viscosity type.
In this study, physical property evaluation and physical separation of the target product were performed to investigate the possibility of using sewage sludge gasification solid residue (GSRs) as a circulating resource. Firstly, the GSRs used in this study was supplied by Sudokwon Landfill Management Corporation, and generally the GSRs was in the form of porous pellets with a particle size of several millimetres. In addition, the partially black areas were confirmed to be unburned and ungasified carbon, and the average carbon content was 5%. In addition, the content of silica, alumina and phosphorus oxide was more than 70% of the total content. It was confirmed that the metallic components of the wet grinding product were separated into individual elements. As a physical separation of metallic and non-metallic components was required, it was finally found that flotation screening was suitable. Accordingly, cationic and anionic surfactants were selected to separate metallic components in which a relatively large amount of non-metallic components were concentrated, and the separation characteristics were confirmed. As a result, it is expected that the concentration of non-metallic components such as silica, alumina and phosphorus will be easier than the separation of metallic components. Therefore, since it is possible to physically treat the gasified sludge residue, it is judged to have potential as a circular resource according to the proposed recycling method for the separated product.
The national satellite operation network, which supports multiple satellites, was designated as a Critical Information Infrastructure (CII) in 2017. The network was designed independently from the control network and the information network to enhance physical security. Planning is underway to establish a bidirectional data interface between networks. The data transmission system allows data flow only to the physical layer and the data link layer; hence, only one file can be transferred at any one time. This means that when large amounts of data are being transmitted, no other data can be sent simultaneously in urgent situations. Thus, this paper discusses the design of flexible packets for the transmission of data between networks in an environment where physical security has been enhanced through network separation and based on this, presents a method for transmitting data effectively.
