  • Physical and chemical properties of thexylboronic acid and its derivatives such as thexylboroxine and ethylene glycol or diethanolamine thexylboronic ester have been studied. Thexylboronic acid can be extracted from an organic solution with an aqueous sodium hydroxide solution as an “te”complex. It is readily converted into thexylboroxine in the presence of anhydrous magnesium sulfate in pentane. It reacts with simple alcohols only slowly; however, it reacts readily with excess diethanolamine in the presence of anhydrous magnesium sulfate to give the corresponding ester.

  • PURPOSE: This study was to investigate of pain and spine shape in elementary school students. The aim of this study was to prevent pain and spinal misalignment is to provide basic data and the need for regular screening for elementary school students. METHODS: This study had a survey research about pain and spine shape by using questionnaires and Formetric 4D. Subjects were 301 Elementary School Students RESULTS: In the presence or absence of pain and the presence of pain was in a high proportion and many of them indicated the back as a pain area, As a result of the spine shape contour, pelvic tilt was normal and trunk inclination was asymmetric as well as thoracic kyphosis and lumbar lordosis were diminished. There was a significant difference in relationship of trunk inclination according to pain CONCLUSION: The asymmetric of trunk inclination influenced the pain, In contrast, the pain did not influence thoracic kyphosis and lumbar lordosis in diminished. but, the diminution in thoracic kyphosis and lumbar lordosis are potential sources of pain. Regular checkups are necessary to prevent elementary school students from a change of spine shape and a pain, Moreover, education of maintaining normal posture should be followed.

  • In an atempt to elucidate further physicochemical properties of furosemide-PVP coprecipitates, extensive investigations such as TLC, UV,IR, NMR, X-ray diffraction, TGA and DTA studies were carried out for the furosemide test systems. X-ray diffraction studies revealed that the pure furosemide and the furosemide contained within a physical mixture were crystalline in nature. However, there was no crystallinity evident in the 1:5 furosemide-PVP 40,000 coprecipitate system, even after standing for two years. The various ratio furosemide-PVP 40,000 coprecipitate systems revealed that the coprecipitate containing a greater amount of PVP 40,000 than that of furosemide showed a crystalline state of furosemide and that the minimum amounts of PVP to make amorphous form of furosemide was 1:1 ratio of furosemide to PVP. From the furosemide-PVP coprecipitate systems with PVP of different molecular weights of 10,000, 40,000 and 360,000, all the 1:1 ratio coprecipitates did not exhibit any crystallinity of furosemide, whereas all the 2:1 ratio coprecipitates showed a presence of crystalline furosemide. All the coprecipitated preparations with PEG 4,000 and with PEG 6,000 showed the diffraction peaks indicating the presence of crystalline furosemide. The comparison of infrared spectra of the physical mixture and the coprecipitate showed an interaction such as association between the functional groups of furosemide and PVP in the molecular level, whereas the studies by TLC, UV and NMR showed its dissociation in methanol solution. The weight losses in TGA curves showed all the same patterns. However, a little different transition form in DTA thermograms was shown between the physical mixture and the coprecipitate, indicating the different thermal property.

  • Background: Scapular winging (SW) could be caused by tightness or weakness of the periscapular muscles. Although data mining techniques are useful in classifying or predicting risk of musculoskeletal disorder, predictive models for risk of musculoskeletal disorder using the results of clinical test or quantitative data are scarce. Objects: This study aimed to (1) investigate the difference between young women with and without SW, (2) establish a predictive model for presence of SW, and (3) determine the cutoff value of each variable for predicting the risk of SW using the decision tree method. Methods: Fifty young female subjects participated in this study. To classify the presence of SW as the outcome variable, scapular protractor strength, elbow flexor strength, shoulder internal rotation, and whether the scapula is in the dominant or nondominant side were determined. Results: The classification tree selected scapular protractor strength, shoulder internal rotation range of motion, and whether the scapula is in the dominant or nondominant side as predictor variables. The classification tree model correctly classified 78.79% (p = 0.02) of the training data set. The accuracy obtained by the classification tree on the test data set was 82.35% (p = 0.04). Conclusion: The classification tree showed acceptable accuracy (82.35%) and high specificity (95.65%) but low sensitivity (54.55%). Based on the predictive model in this study, we suggested that 20% of body weight in scapular protractor strength is a meaningful cutoff value for presence of SW.

  • knee injuries are among the most common problems confronting patients, physical therapist and physicians. since the bony structure provides little stability, the soft tissues are required to withstand high forces, often resulting in tissue overload and injury immobilization of the knee in the presence of a hemarthrosis usually leads to proliferation of intraarticular connective tissue adhesions and pint fibrosis. the physical basis of treating scar tissue is early controlled motion. the management of the knee with increased instability is to strengthening the muscles to properly treat an soft tissue injuries, physical therapist should know about the anatomic structures and biomechanical function of the knee joint, in this review article, we discuss the physiologic properties of soft tissue, biomechanical observation in fibrous connective tissue, managing soft tissue contractures, principles in treating scar tissue and treatment of the knee with increased instability.

  • The study was carried out to investigate how the refining of pulps affects the stress-strain characteristics and physical properties of paper. SwBKP and HwBKP were refined with Hollender laboratory beater to obtain three levels of freeness(500, 400 and 300 ml CSF) at the different consistencies(0.5% and 1.0%). The effects of fines were also evaluated. The stresses and strains of papers made from SwBKP and HwBKP were increased with refining. The absolute value of strain in paper made from SwBKP was higher than those of paper made from HwBKP. We also found that the presence of fines increased the stress and strain significantly in both pulp types. The refining at lower pulp consistency gave higher stress and strain properties. Most physical properties of paper were improved with refining, but the effect of refining consistency depended on the characteristics of each physical properties.

  • In this paper, we discuss physical layer security techniques in downlink networks, including eavesdroppers. The main objective of using physical layer security is delivering a perfectly secure message from a transmitter to an intended receiver in the presence of passive or active eavesdroppers who are trying to wiretap the information or disturb the network stability. In downlink networks, based on the random feature of channels to terminals, opportunistic user scheduling can be exploited as an additional tool for enhancing physical layer security. We introduce user scheduling strategies and discuss the corresponding performances according to different levels of channel state information (CSI) at the base station (BS). We show that the availability of CSI of eavesdroppers significantly affects not only the beamforming strategy but also the user scheduling. Eventually, we provide intuitive information on the effect of CSI on the secrecy performance by considering three scenarios: perfect, imperfect, and absence of eavesdropper's CSI at the BS.

  • Objective: This study was designed to evaluate the etiological factors of the PTSD(post traumatic stress disorder) by examining the relationship between severity of physical trauma and subsequent the severity of PTSD symptom in traffic accident related PTSD patients. Method: Subjects were 21 psychiatric inpatients with history of traffic accident related PTSD(DSM-IV criteria), the purpose of evaluation of mental disability and no evidence of organic brain leisons. The severity of physical trauma was assessed by McBride number of nonpsychiatric department and the presence / absence of loss of conciousness. The severity of PTSD symptom was assessed by Hovens' self rating inventory for PTSD. And then we evaluated the correlation between these two factors. And we also evaluated relationship between severity of PTSD symtom and clinical variables. Results : There were no significant relationship between McBride number of nonpsychiatric department severity and symptomatic severity(r= 0.17, p<0.05), the presence / absence of loss of conciousness and symptomatic severity(p>0.05). And significant relationship between symptomatic severity and clinical varibles such as sex, education level, marital status(p<0.05). Conclusions : These data did not support data of previous studies that traumatic severity was correlated with symptom severity but, suggested that other variables affecting the severity of PTSD symptom is more important indirectly. And that the 'trauma' in PTSD is psychological meaning rather than physical meaning is also suggested.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to describe the current level of physical activity (PA) and to explore the relationships between self-efficacy for PA, perceived health status (PHS), attitudes toward aging, ego-integrity and PA in community-dwelling older Koreans. Methods: A total of 164 participants were recruited from community centers, churches, and senior welfare centers in Korea. With questionnaires, a survey was conducted from June 3rd to 22th, 2016. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA and Pearson's correlation coefficient using SPSS/WIN 22.0 program. Results: The mean amount of total PA was 5,295.33±6,272.38 MET/min/week. The number of subjects engaged in vigorous, moderate, and low-intensity activities were 87 (53.0%), 45 (27.4%), and 32 (19.5%), respectively. Overall, physical activities were different according to the presence of spouse (t=-2.79, p=.006) and the presence of housemate (t=2.03, p=.044). The mean scores of self-efficacy for PA, PHS, attitudes towards aging, and ego-integrity were 17.16±4.45, 9.00±2.41, 68.12±9.28 and 51.62±7.59, respectively. There were significant positive correlations between overall PA and self-efficacy for PA (r=.34, p<.001), PHS (r=.23, p=.003), attitudes towards aging (r=.26, p=.001). Conclusion: Specific programs to promote physical activities in addition to continuous education for improving self-efficacy for PA, PHS, and attitudes towards aging in community-dwelling older adults are needed.
