Analytical Method for Determination of Microstructure of SBR and SBR Content in Blended Rubber Composites Using Pyrolytic Technique

  • Styrene-butadiene rubber(SBR) is a copolymer of styrene and butadiene. It is composed of 1,2-unit, 1,4-unit, and styrene, and its properties are dependent on its microstructure. In general, rubber composites contain a single rubber or a blended rubber. Similarly, SBR is used by mixing with natural rubber(NR) and butadiene rubber(BR). The composition of a rubber article affects its physical and chemical properties. Herein, an analytical method for determining the microstructure of SBR using via pyrolysis is introduced. Pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry is widely used to analyze the microstructure of polymeric materials. The microstructure of SBR can be determined by analyzing the principal pyrolysis products formed from SBR, such as 4-vinylcyclohexene, styrene, 2-phenylpropene, 3-phenylcyclopentene, and 4-phenylcyclohexene. An analytical method for determining the composition of SBR/NR, SBR/BR, and SBR/NR/BR blends via pyrolysis is introduced. The composition of blended rubber can be determined by analyzing the principal pyrolysis products formed from each rubber component.

A study on the development of PCB automatic routing system using the mixing method of non-grid and grid (논-그리드와 그리드 혼합 방식을 이용한 PCB 자동 배선 시스템 개발)

  • Non-grid and grid method are used for modeling the routing region of the automatic routing system. In this study, we develop the automatic routing system by mixing the methods of non-grid and grid to improve the speed of routing. Grid method has a demerit which decreases the automatic routing speed because it is required a lot of memory by the limitation of the size of board and grid, although the electrical and physical elements are insufficient on the PCB, But non-grid is spent gurite less memory than grid method by using a shape-based patterns. Therefore, we used the methods of non-grid and grid altogether in this paper, In the former method, it is attributed to the improvement of speed, the latter one is applied only the connection of the failed routing in the former one, and it performs the complete automatic routing. This system was developed with C++language under the Windows NT environment of IBM 486DX2-66 Computer.

Dual Doppler Wind Retrieval Using a Three-dimensional Variational Method (3차원 변분법을 사용한 이중 도플러 바람장 분석)

  • The characteristics of the dual-Doppler wind retrieval method based on a three dimensional variational (3DVAR) conception were investigated from the following four points of view; the sensitivity of the number of iteration, the effect of the weak constraint term, the effect of the smoothness term, and the sensitivity of the error mixing ratio of the radial velocities. In the experiment, the radial velocities relative to the Gosan and Jindo radar sites of the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) were calculated from the forecasting of the WRF (Weather Research and Forecast; Skamarock, 2004) model at 1330 UTC 30 June 2006, which is the one and half hour forecast from the initial time, 1200 UTC on that day. The results showed that the retrieval performance of the horizontal wind field was robust, but that of the vertical wind was sensitive to the external conditions, such as iteration number and the on/off of the weak constraint term. The sensitivity of error mixing ratio was so large that even the horizontal wind retrieval efficiency was reduced a lot. But the sensitivity of the smooth term was not so large. When we applied this method to the real mesoscale convective system (MCS) between the Gosan and Jindo radar pair at 1430 UTC 30 June 2006, the wind structure of the convective cells in the MCS was consistently retrieved relative to the reflectivity factor structure. By comparing the vertical wind structure of this case with that of 10 minutes after, 1440 UTC 30 June 2006, we got the physical consistency of our method.

Preparation of Al/RDX/AP Energetic Composites by Drowning-out/Agglomeration and Their Thermal Decomposition Characteristics (결정화/응집에 의한 구형 Al/RDX/AP 에너지 복합체 제조 및 그 열분해 특성)

  • The spherical Al/RDX/AP composites with an average size of $550{\mu}m$ were successfully prepared by drowning-out/agglomeration (D/A) process. The surface morphology and dispersion of Al particles of those composites were investigated using SEM and EDS (energy dispersive spectrometry). As a result of thermal analysis, the onset temperature of thermal decomposition of the Al/RDX/AP composites by the D/A process was found to decrease about $50^{\circ}C$ and their thermal stability was shown to be relatively enhanced due to the increase of activation energy compared to those of using the physical mixing method. In the first decomposition region of AP, Prout-Tompkins model was shown to describe well the thermal decomposition of both composites by the physical mixing and D/A process. On the other hand, in the second decomposition region of AP, the decomposition mechanisms of composites by the physical mixing and D/A process were explained by the zero-order and contracting volume model, respectively.

Properties of High Strength Recycled Aggregate Concrete (고강도 영역의 재생골재 콘크리트의 물리적 특성)

  • The purpose of this study is to present the method of utilizing the recycled aggregate that are obtained from waste concrete as the concrete aggregate. We manufactured the recycled aggregate concrete with compressive strength of over 300kgf/㎠ to increase its weaker strength than the normal concrete, and compared the physical features of the recycled aggregate concrete with that of the normal concrete. As a result of the study, the mechanical performances such as compressive and tensile strength were generally reduced as the mixing rate of the recycled aggregate increased; however, it was possible to manufacture the concrete with the compressive strength of 300∼600kgf/㎠ using the adequate mixing material such as unit quantity of cement, compounding water and silicafume. However, a continuous study on long-term durability performance is required to manufacture and utilize the recycled aggregate concrete for the structure.

  • The characteristics of arc pressure, current density and heat flux distribution are important factors in understanding physical arc phenomena, which will have a marked effect on the penetration, size and shape of a weld in TIG welding. The purpose of this study is to find out the effect of the heat flux on the melting efficiency and penetration shape in TIG welding using the results of the previous investigators. The conclusions obtained permit to draw a proper method which derived the heat flux distributions by arc pressure distribution measurements, but previous researchers calculated heat flux and current distribution with the heat intensity measurements by the calorimetry. Heat flux of Ar gas arc was concentrated at the central part and distributed low from the arc axis to the radial direction, that of He mixing arc was lower than that of Ar gas, and it was wide distributed to radial direction. That showed a similar characteristic with the Nestor's by calorimetry calculated values. Throughout heat flux drawn in this study was discussed melting efficiency and penetration shape on Ar gas and He mixing gas arc.

Effects of PCC Loading at Thick Stock on the Paper Properties (고농도 지료에서의 PCC 충전이 종이 물성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of PCC loading at thick stock on the physical properties of paper. The effect of starch addition(2, 4 and 6%) and mixing time(5, 10 and 20 min.) on the filler retention and paper properties were investigated. Optimum dosage of cationic starch as a fixing agent was 4%, and mixing time did not showed any significant effect on the filler retention. PCC loading at thick stock was more effective to improve bulk and opacity than PCC loading at thin stock, although their improvement was not so significant. It was also found that the strength properties could be improved by the loading at thick stock. PCC loading method at thick stock could be considered as one of potential approaches for further improving of paper properties, although further research works are required in order to apply the PCC loading at thick stock in the paper mill.

Some Quality Changes in Soybean Curd by Addition of Dried Soymilk Residue (건조비지 첨가에 의한 두부품질의 변화)

  • The dried soymilk residue (SMR) was added into soybean water extract in order to investigate its effect on physical characteristics of soybean curd. As the mixing ratio (d. b.) increased, the volume and water holding capacity of the curd was reduced and penetration value was increased. However, the Sag value was rather increased until 20% of mixing ratio reached and then decreased drastically by 30% addition of SMR. The overall physical and sensory quality showed that substitution of soybean with SMR by 10% was recommendable without significant unfavorable change in quality of soybean curd. The proposed method of absorption of unbound water on filter paper was proved to be simple and reliable for measurement of water holding capacity of soybean curd.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the various characteristics of the 53-years old railway tunnel linning concrete. The nondestructive technique such as the surface hardness method and the ultrasonic method, the extent of carbonation by the phenolphthalein indicator, and the chemical analysis due to XRD/XRF are considered Also the concrete core was cut in two pieces per tunnel for the exact evaluation of strength. On the basis of the experimental result, it is concluded that the durability and the serviceability of old tunnel linning concrete are affected by the initial mixing condition and the environmental effect.

  • Controlling fluid flows in micro scales is a non-trivial issue among those who are involved in designing lab-on-chips. Pumping and mixing by using electrokinetic principles has been popular in that the method requires a few parts and it is easy to control. This paper explains the basic mechanism of the electroosmotic flows caused by AC together with presenting some numerical results. In particular, the fundamental, physical idea involved in the mechanism will be illustrated in terms of the kinematic aspect. Since the electroosmotic flows are mainly driven by the motion of ions, we also demonstrate the ion motions by using the numerical-visualization method.
