Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of wearing an immediate vibration feedback device at the lumbar region on the spine angle in a sitting position. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: The subjects were 28 healthy university students who were randomized to three interventions. Each condition (A: in a normal chair with an immediate feedback device, B: on the gym ball, C: in a normal chair) spent 10 minutes watching the video, and the order of the experiments was randomized, and the measurements were taken consecutively. Results: The results showed significant differences in cervical and thoracic angles between conditions and time. Post hoc tests showed no difference at 1 minute, but significant differences at 5 and 10 minutes. Conclusions: In conclusion, all angles increased over time in all conditions, but the condition of wearing an immediate vibration feedback device with a lower increase was more useful in maintaining spinal angles than the other two conditions. This study suggests that immediate vibration feedback devices may be an alternative to prevent the loss of spinal angle in occupations and environments with prolonged sedentary postures, and further research is needed to investigate the effectiveness of prolonged application.
This study examined the effects of physical activities using Korean dance upon the motor abilities of young children. The subjects of this study were divided into 2 groups. The first group was an experimental group (boy=12, girl=13) who participated in the Korean dance class and the other group was a comparative group (boy=11, girl=14). Experiments were performed during 18 sessions for 9 weeks. The study findings are as follows. First, physical activities using Korean dance had positive effects upon the development of basic motor abilities in young children. In terms of these basic motor abilities, movement motor ability and whole muscle operation motor ability showed significant differences between the pre-test and post-test stage in the experiment group and between the experimental and comparative groups in the post-test stage. On the other hand, in terms of non-movement motor abilities, there was a significant difference between the pre- and post-test stages for the experimental group, but no significant difference in the post-test stage for the experimental or comparative groups. Second, physical activities using Korean dance had positive effects upon the development of perceptive motor abilities in young children. In other words, in the sub-variables of perceptive motor abilities, there were significant differences between the pre- and post-test stages of the experimental group which experienced physical activities using Korean dance. In conclusion, the study findings showed that physical activities using Korean dance had positive effects upon the increase of both basic motor abilities and perceptive motor abilities in young children. Additionally, the experimental group exhibited more positive effects in the various areas of motor abilities than the comparative group.
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to find out the effect of exercise on the angle and distance between scapular stability and McKenzie stretch exercise. Method : 30 volunteers took part in this experiment and we divided into three groups(experimental group A, experimental group B, control group C). Experimental group A performed scapular stabilization exercise and experimental group B performed McKenzie neck stretching exercise and control group didn't perform any exercise. Experimental group(A, B) received a total of 12 exercise session over a 4 week period (three times per week). Posture and craniovertebral angle changes of the neck using GPS measurements reported. Result : The CVA and distance change after exercise were significantly reduced in the experimental group A and B. Conclusion : Therefore, we have confirmed through experiments reducing a CVA and distance between scapular stabilization and McKenzie neck stretching exercises, whereby we would also be helpful to ensure the treatment of forward head posture.
The regain of independent ambulatory ability is a important goal in the rehabilitation program of hemiplegic patient. Not only the function of lower extremity muscles, but also trunk muscles which stabilize extremities and pelvis, are important factors in normal gait. Therefor, it is necessary to develop an effective program which can improve muscle strength and symmetric activity of trunk muscles. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of trunk muscle strengthening by forceful respiratory exercise on the gait asymmetry ratio in hemiplegic patient. 45 Hemiplegic patients due to stroke was randomized in 3 groups, forceful expiratory training(FET), forceful inspiratory training(FIT) and control group. In the experimental groups, ordinary physical therapy with forceful expiratory training and forceful inspiratory training for 20 minutes duration 3 times per week for 6 weeks were respectively performed. In the control group, only ordinary physical therapy was done. Before and after experiments, temporal-spatial gait parameters was measured in all patients. The data of 28 patients who carried out the whole experimental course were statistically analysed. The results of these experiment are as follows : 1. In comparison of difference of single support time asymmetry ratio among 3 groups, the FET group was significantly decreased than the control group (p<.05). 2. In comparison of difference of step length asymmetry ratio among 3 groups, the FIT group was significantly decreased than the control group (p<.05). Based on these results, it is concluded that the forced respiratory exercise program for 6 weeks can be improve the gait asymmetry ratio in hemiplegic patients. Therefore, the forced respiratory exercise is useful to improve the walking ability in hemiplegic patients. Since this study dealt only with the patients who could walk more than 3 meters in distance on floor independently, the further study for evaluating the influence of the forceful respiratory exercise on patients with acute stage stroke and also the development in various methods of use are expected.
One of the most usual indicators to measure the performance of any inventory policy is the mean physical stock. In general, when estimating the mean physical stock in periodic review inventory systems, approximate approaches are often utilized by practitioners and researchers. The mean physical stock is generally calculated by a simple approximation. Still these simple methods are frequently used to analyze various single stockpoint and multi-echelon inventory systems. However, such a simple approximation can be very inaccurate. This is particularly true for low service levels. Even though exact methods to calculate the mean physical stock have been derived, they are available for specific cases only and computationally not very efficient, and therefore less useful in practice. In literature, approximate approaches, such as the simple, the linear, and Simpson approximations, were derived for the periodic review inventory systems that allow backorders. This paper modifies the approximate approaches for the lost sales case and evaluates the modified approximate approaches. Through computational experiments, average (and maximum) percentage deviations of mean physical stock between the exact method and the modified approximations are compared in the periodic review inventory system with lost sales. The same comparison between the modified and the original approximations are also conducted, in order to examine the performance of modified approximations. The results show that all modified approximations perform well for high service levels, but also that the performance may deteriorate fast with decreasing service level. The modified Simpson approximation is clearly better. In addition, the comparison between the modified and the original approximations in the periodic review inventory system with lost sales shows that the modified approximation outperforms the original approximation.

Background: Spinal Mobilization is one of the manual therapy technique that clinicians have used to treat pain, however, there is still a lack of research on changes in strength in healthy people. Objectives: To investigate the effect of posterior-anterior lumbar mobilization on lower limb strength in healthy individuals. Design: Two-group pretest-posttest design. Methods: In this study, 23 healthy subjects aged 20 years were assigned to 12 lumbar mobilization group (LMG) and 12 sham group (SG) to perform intervention and measurement through pre- and post-design. Intervention was performed in LMG with grade III~IV on L3-5 of the lumbar spine, and lumbar mobilization was performed for each segment. After intervention, knee flexion and extension strength were measured. To measure the main effect on muscle strength, a comparative analysis was conducted using paired t-test and independent t-test. Results: In LMG, knee flexor and extensor strength were increased significantly at 60°/s (P<.05). In addition, the extensors of LMG and SG were significantly different only at 60°/s, and the flexors were significantly different between groups at both 60°/s and 180°/s (P<.05). Conclusion: In healthy individuals, lumbar mobilization results in improvement of strength of knee flexor and extensor, and additional experiments on the effect of mobilization on the lumbar spine on functional changes in the lower limbs will be needed.
Purpose : the purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of craniovertebral angle on bag strap length change method : this study is aimed at twenties healthy adult for 30 persons (male-8, female-22) research participant attach marks on tragus and cervical7 participant did not carry bag in First test. thereafter we take a picture mark point and measure the angle. immediately the second experiment was designed to carry back on participant's iliac crest and to walk freely for five minutes. afterward, we take a picture mark point and measure the angle. last experiment was performed after five minutes break. participants carried back on 10cm below participant's iliac crest and third experiment was performed the same way. results : Increase the length of the bag, craniovertebral angle is reduced and there is a significant difference between the three experiments.(p=.000) conclusion : when hold the back too long, Cervical spine cause temporary head forward posture. so carry on bag short.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the change of functional ambulation profile(FAP) and temporal-spatial gait parameters in hemiplegic patient by forceful respiratory exercise. 28 Hemiplegic patients due to stroke was randomized in 3 groups, forceful expiratory training(FET), forceful inspiratory training(FIT) and control group. In the experimental groups, ordinary physical therapy with forceful expiratory training and forceful inspiratory training for 20 minutes duration 3 times per week for 6 weeks were respectively performed. In the control group, only ordinary physical therapy was done. FAP and temporal-spatial gait parameters was measured at before and after experiments. The results of this experimental study were as follows : 1. In comparison of FAP before and after experiment, the FAP was significantly increased in the FET and FIT group (p<.01). In comparison of difference of FAP among 3 groups, there was the significant difference between the FIT group and the control group (p<.05). 2. The results of temporal-spatial gait parameters are as follows : 1) In comparison of gait velocity before and after experiment, the gait velocity was significantly increased in the FET and FIT group (p<.05). In comparison of difference of the gait velocity among 3 groups, there was the significantly difference between the FIT group and the control group (p<.05). 2) In comparison of gait cadence before and after experiment, the gait cadence was significantly increased in FIT group (p<.05). In comparison of the difference of the gait cadence among 3 groups, there was no significant difference between the FIT group and the control group (p>.05). Based on these results, it is concluded that the forced respiratory exercise program for 6 weeks can be improve the FAP and temporal-spatial gait parameters in hemiplegic patients. Therefore, the forced respiratory exercise is useful to improve the walking ability in hemiplegic patients.
Oil and natural gas reserves have been recognised abundantly in clayey rich rock formations in deep costal reservoirs. It is necessary to understand the sedimentary history of those reservoir rocks to well explore these natural resources. This work designs a group of laboratory experiments to mimic the physical process of the sedimentary clay-rich rock formation. It presents characterisation results of the physical properties of the artificial clayey rocks synthesized from illite clay, quartz sand and brine water by high-pressure consolidation tests. Special focus is given on the effects of illite clay content and high-stress consolidation on the physical properties. Multi-step loaded consolidation experiments were carried out with stress up to 35 MPa on mixtures constituting of the illite clay, quartz sand and brine water with five initial illite clay contents (w=85%, 70%, 55%, 40% and 25%). Compressibility and void ratio were characterised throughout the physical compaction process of the mixtures constituting of five illite clay contents and their water permeability was measured as well. Results show that the applied stress induces a great reduction of clayey rock void ratio. Illite clay contents has a significant influence on the compressibility, void ratio and the permeability of the physically synthesized clayey rocks. There is a critical illite clay content w=70% that induces the minimum void ratio in the physically synthesised clayey rocks. The SEM study indicates, in the high-pressure synthesised clayey rocks with high illite clay contents, the illite clay minerals are located in layers and serve as the material matrix, and the quartz minerals fill in the inter-mineral pores or are embedded in the illite clay matrix. The arrangements of the minerals in microscale originate the structural anisotropy of the high-pressure synthesised clayey rock. The test findings can give an intuitive physical understanding of the deep-buried clayey rock basins in energy reservoirs.
Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) is a painful condition that arises from exercise-induced muscle damage after unaccustomed physical activities. Various therapeutic interventions have been applied to reduce the intensity and duration of DOMS-related symptoms. Recently, pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) intervention has been introduced as an alternative noninvasive treatment for DOMS. This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled experiment was conducted to examine the effects of PEMF therapy on DOMS in elbow flexors at 24, 48, and 72 hours after the experimental DOMS induction. Thirty healthy volunteers ($23{\pm}2.4$ yrs, $175{\pm}5.7$ cm, and $74{\pm}7.8$ kg) participated in this study. Each was randomly assigned to a PEMF or placebo group. On the first day, DOMS was induced in the elbow flexors by repeated isokinetic motions at low ($60^{\circ}/s$) and fast ($120^{\circ}/s$) speeds in all subjects. Thereafter, the PEMF group received 15-min daily treatment with a PEMF device. The placebo group received sham treatment of the same duration. Overall, PEMF application was more effective than the sham treatment in reducing the physiological symptoms associated with the DOMS including perceived soreness, median frequency, and electromechanical delay of the surface electromyography. In addition, median frequency and isokinetic peak torque of the PEMF group recovered to the pre-DOMS induction level earlier than the placebo group. In conclusion, this study suggests that PEMF can be applied as a new recovery strategy in reducing DOMS symptoms. Further experiments are required to examine the effect of the PEMF treatment on different types of exercise conditions and to determine the optimal treatment dosage and duration in a real clinical setting.
