Study on Renovating Housings for the Disabled through Case Studies (개조 사례를 통한 신체장애인 주거공간 개조방안에 관한 연구)

  • Men should be able to do whatever they want to and want to safely protected at home which is special domain for them. The disabled live mentally uncomfortable lives at home which should be a place where they should be comfortable and convenient. Renovation projects started in Incheon since 2009 by commencing renovation projects for the disabled by the government and welfare centers. Since the project is a program supported by the government or welfare centers thus priority on renovation was decided and carried out by in-depth interview to decide areas to renovate because of limited budgets. This paper is aimed to propose plans for renovating homes according to priority for renovation for dwellers when renovating homes for the disabled with limited budgets. Renovating home for the disabled can be broadly divided into physical, environmental, esthetic renovations, and physical renovation is a basic renovation for daily lives without restrictions in living and include easy movements, accesses to each rooms and adequacy of movement, easily accesses related with easily accessible distance and height, safety to prevent accidents caused by physical inabilities. Environmental renovation is general supports becoming the base of daily living and include control for controlling lighting, heating, air quality for comfortable environments in living space and pleasantness to maintain bright and pleasant interior with sufficient light. Esthetic renovation includes expression of identity by expressing image of one self and visual effects or spatial consideration for hobbies to enjoy comfortable and rich lives.

A Research of the Residents' Availability and Health Effectiveness Based upon the Types of Green Roof (옥상녹화 유형별 거주자 이용행태와 건강효과)

  • The purpose of this research is to identify green roofs based on how to utilize the diverse space. This research also aims to discover the correlation between the use of the green roof and the overall level of the public's health condition, through which it is intended to grasp the health effects by means of the space of the green roof. The current use patterns of the green roof have been identified generally to have more than 60% accessibility, less than 30 minutes of short-tenn use, relaxation or removing stress, enjoy the view of the surrounding, smoking, walking and exercise. It will be highly effective to furnish facilities and plants for tree planting, and to get financial maintenance & management subsidy for the purpose of revitalizing the green roof. It is expected that if the green roof is created in educational institutes, hospitals and shopping centers, where the current level of health conditions is generally low, it will contribute in promoting the city dwellers' health benefits. In addition, the physical environmental renovation through establishing the green roof will bring about producing a healthy city because the emotional health benefits also will make a positive impact upon physical health.

The Development of the Scale for the Elderly's Intention on Home Renovation (노인의 주택개조 의지 측정도구 개발)

  • This study aims to develop a scale to measure the elderly's intention on home renovation and to verify its validity. As a methodological study based on the theory of planned behavior, this study provides 26 preliminary items in the pre-test. The first main test, performed to verify the content validity of the developed items, was followed by a second test of construct validity and reliability. As the result of the content validity test targeting experts, some of the original 26 items were excluded, while others were combined for a total of 22. As the result of the construct validity test of the scale, targeting the elderly aged 65 and over, the 22 items were narrowed down to 14 items, excluding the items that were unsuitable for communality and Eigen value. After once more conducting a factor analysis, the items were classified into five factors with a total cumulative variance of 72.5% and a Cronbach's α of 0.75. This study will contribute to the discussion of housing for the elderly by giving force to environmental regeneration activities through facilitating the identification of the home owners' intentions to renovate in order to improve the physical environment in decayed areas at a public level.
