Photosynthetic bacteria (PSB), strains IP-4 and IP-6-7 were isolated from nature, and were studied for swine wastewater treatment. It was confirmed that these PSB were very effective for the COD treatment. Growth of those PSB were increased to 4.5 fold in organic-acids (acetate, propionate and butyrate) added medium than cultivation in Lascelles basal medium and the amount of bacteriochlorophyll a were increased to 5 folds. The COD removal rate in swine wastewater using PSB, strains IP-4 and IP6-7 were obtained 91% and 85%, respectively.
This study was conducted to determine the optimum number of inter-rows according to distance of drainage furrow (DF) for running-off excessive-water stress (EWS) in paddy field. The most soil water potential was shown in high ridge (distance of DF by 70 cm) cultivation and the soil water potential showed increasing tendency in over four inter-rows cultivation by DF. The growth of soybean reduced by extended inter-row and its reducing level was high, especially, over four inter-rows (DF distance by 2.8 m) because of EWS. The photosynthetic rate decreased in the more extensive field by distance of DF at V5 and R2 stages, especially, in over four interrows cultivation. Also, root activity decreased at wider DF. The yield was reduced with wider distance of DF more extensively, the highest yield of 270 g per $m^2$ at the every row, but yield showed decreasing tendency at over the $4^{th}$ row (2.8 m) cultivation. Soybean cultivation in paddy field could be founded with DF of every other or $4^{th}$ row.
The net photosynthetic rate of 'Seolhyang' strawberry plants was measured daily for 7 days after treatment at three UV illumination dosages (0, 9.8, and 29.5 $kJ{\cdot}m^{-2}$). The net photosynthetic rates of the strawberry plants with 9.8 and 29.5 $kJ{\cdot}m^{-2}$ UV light illumination decreased by 20.2 and 61.4%, respectively, at 7 days after UV light treatments. UV treatments with two illumination dosages (7.9 and 15.7 $kJ{\cdot}m^{-2}$) altered the phenolic compounds contents during the cultivation period when compared to those in the control fruits. The anthocyanin content with 7.9 $kJ{\cdot}m^{-2}$ UV light illumination of 'Seolhyang' increased by 18.7% compared with those in control fruits at the 11 DAT. However, the anthocyanin content of 'Maehyang' was not significantly different among treatments during experiment period. The highest level of ellagic acid was found with 7.9 $kJ{\cdot}m^{-2}$ UV light illumination in both cultivars at the 11 DAT. Our results showed that strawberries illuminated with UV light during cultivation period had higher bioactive compounds contents than control fruits. These results suggest that UV light treatments may be a useful non-chemical way of promoting strawberry fruits quality.
The green alga, Dunaliella salina under fed-batch cultivation produced 51.12 mg of hydrocarbon per liter with maintaining 0.313 (g dry wt/l). About 20% of hydrocarbon production yield based on dry biomass was obtained from both batch and fed-batch processes. Optimum culture conditions of light intensity, pH and salt concentration were obtained as 0.0080 (kJ/$cm^2$/h), 8.0 and 1.4 (g of NaCl/l), respectively by response surface analysis. The production of hydrocarbons in D. salina was closely correlated to cell growth. Fed-batch cultivation produced more hydrocarbons and maintained better cell growth than a batch process.
Cultivation of a $Q_{10}$-producing photosynthetic bacterium, Rhodobacter sphaeroids, was carried out in a 1-L flask to characterize its cellular growth reaction. The result of experiment showed that dissolve oxygen in the broth was depleted within 7 h. ORP decreased with decrease of DO, and recovered somewhat with increase of pH. The growth of R. spahaeroids reached at late-log phase in 140 h of reaction. The final pH and dry-cell weight were 7.62 and 2.2 mg/mL, respectively. The $Q_{10}$ content in the final broth was 2.35 mg/g dry cell weight, which was higher than that obtained in tube culture.
The photosynthetic characteristics of three Ligularia species, L. fischeri, L. fischeri var. spiciformis and L. stenocephala under-tree cultivated in Dunnae-myeon, Hoengsung-gun were measured and compared. Total mean photosynthetic rate increased with increasing the light intensity up to 2,000 PPFD. Mean photosynthetic rate of L. fischeri increased to maximum value of $21.1{\mu}mol\;CO_{2}m^{-2}s^{-1}$ with increasing the light intensity up to 1,600 PPFD, but it was decreased at 2,000 PPFD. The highest photosynthetic rate was shown in L. fischeri var. spiciformis, followed by L. fischeri, and L. stenocephala. was the highest $27.39{\mu}mol\;CO_{2}m^{-2}s^{-1}$ among three species, followed by that of The differences in photosynthetic rates were significantly different among the species each measuring date. L. fischeri var. spiciformis was more adaptive species at the low elevated under-tree cultivated sites, such as, Sanchemaeul Dunnae-myeon Hoeyngseung-gun than L. fischeri and L. stenocephala.
This study were conducted to investigate the influence of chilling on photosynthetic rate, root activity, contents of total sugars and fatty acids of cucumber seedlings grown in a greenhouse. Even though photosynthetic activity of seedlings exposed to $0^{\circ}C$ for 5 hours was little or insignificantly influenced, it was reduced by 52.8% and 67.7% in seedlings exposed to the same temperature for an extended 10 and 24 hours, respectively. Photosynthetic rate decreased significantly when seedlings were illuminated, as compared to continuously held under darkness, during 15 hours of chilling treatment at 3$^{\circ}C$. Recovery of photosynthetic ability was also retarded by illumination during a recovery period after chilling treatment. Root activity, as measured by the oxidation power of $\alpha$-naphtylamine, was significantly reduced by chilling treatment at 0 to 6$^{\circ}C$, but amount of bleeding xylem sap collected at 40 days after chilling treatment was not significantly different among treatments. Total sugar content increased by 12 and 23% as compared to the control in seedlings chilled for 24 hours, respectively, at 3$^{\circ}C$. Contents of unsaturated linolenic and oleic acids increased, while content of saturated palmitic acid decreased with chilling treatment.

Photosynthetic bacteria, strains KN 1-1, KN 2-1 and KN 2-3 were isolated from nature, and were studied for swine wastewater treatment. Growth of those photosynthetic bacteria were increased to 2~3 fold in organic-acid added medium(sodium acetate 1g, sodium propionate 1g and sodium butyrate 1g in Lascelles basal medium $1{\ell}$) than cultivation in Lascelles basal medium, and amount of bacteriochlorophyll a were increased to 1.5~2 fold. Chemical Oxygen Demand(COD) in swine wastewater using photosynthetic bacteria, strains KN 1-1, KN 2-1 and KN 2-3 were reduced 80%, 89% and 75%, respectively.

The current study proposes a simple monodimensional model to estimate the linear growth rate of photosynthetic microorganisms in flat-plate photobioreactors (FPPBRs) during batch cultivation. As a model microorganism, Chlorella kessleri was cultivated photoautotrophically in FPPBRs using light-emitting diodes (LEDs) as the light sources to provide unidirectional irradiation in the photobioreactors. Various conditions were simulated by adjusting both the intensity of the light and the height of the culture. The validity of the proposed model was examined by comparing the linear growth rates measured with the predicted ones obtained from the proposed model. Accordingly, the value of $\frac{K\cdot\mu m}{\alpha\cdot L}log(I_0\cdot{I_s}^{\varepsilon 1)\cdot {I_c}^{-\varepsilon})$ was proposed as an approximate index for strategies to obtain the maximal lightn yield under light-limiting conditions for high-density algal cultures and as a control parameter to improve the photosynthetic productivity and efficiency.
Photosynthetic conversion through cyanobacteria and microalgae is an increasingly serious concern in the global warming crisis. Many value-added substances are produced through strain improvement, and much research and development is being conducted to determine its potential as an actual industrial strain. Economic barriers throughout processing production can be overcome to produce value-added chemicals by microalgal strains. In this study, we engineered cyanobacteria strains for the photosynthetic production of squalene and confirmed the continuous cultivation of CO2 and light conditions. The free-inducer system of gene expression was developed at the cyanobacterial strains. Then, the squalene production level and growth of the recombinant cyanobacteria were analyzed and discussed. For bio solar-cell factories, the ability to regulate genes based on the free-inducer gene expression system promotes metabolic engineering research and construction to produce value-added chemicals.
