  • In spite of important researches and translational works of the Joseon mathematical treatises in the 80's and on, these results were almost out of reach to the school teachers as well as students due to the antiquity of their contents and the terms used. In order to make our traditional mathematics approachable to the middle and high school students, it will be educationally meaningful to reinterpret them tuned at the student's level using modern terminology and symbols. In this study, we reinterpreted 9 problems from Cheukryang Dohae, which is one of the representative mathematical books of Joseon Dynasty. We used the terminology and symbols from the school curriculum. We also reconstructed two of them using modern metrologies adapted to modern situations adding illustrations and photos, so that they are useful at the teaching site.

  • Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has been used as motor fuel due to its low emissions and low cost. A liquid direct injection system into a cylinder was suggested as a next generation system to maximize a fuel economy as well as a power. This study addresses the analysis of the LPG spray injecting from single hole injector. Two different test conditions are given, which are a fully developed spray case with various injection pressures and a developing spray case with ambient pressure variation. The LPG spray photographs are compared with the sprays of gasoline and diesel fuel at the same conditions, and the spray angles and penetration lengths are also compared, and then the spray behavior is analyzed. The LPG spray photos show that the dispersion characteristic depends very sensitively on the ambient pressure soon after injection. The spray angle is very wide in a low ambient pressure condition until the saturated pressure, but the angle is quickly reduced at the condition over the pressure. However, the down stream of the LPG spray shows much wider dispersion and less penetration than those of gasoline and diesel sprays regardless ambient pressure condition.

  • In this paper, we propose a line composition based searching system which retrieves compositionally similar photo from the DB of the line-compositional photos. To develop the measure of compositional similarity, we carried out a survey to find which feature is discriminative for retrieving. Based on the results of the survey, we developed the measure of compositional similarity and it was applied the proposed searching system. We also show the results of the recall and the precision to evaluate the performance of the proposed system.

  • We reported an unrecorded species from Korean flora, Sedum makinoi found at Mt. Sung-am, Sajung-dong, Gyeongsan-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do. The species is distinguished from other Korean species of section Seda-genuina by flat and orbicular leaves and opposite phyllotaxy on flowering shoots. Description and illustration of the species and photos of the habitat are provided.

  • Right of view out is one of the most important environmental factors that provide biological comfort and physical stability. Construction of high rise apartment buildings have caused to increase view obstruction cases and conflicts. Generally, when a field of a vision is completely blocked by other building, the percentage of a view is 0% and if the percentage is over 40%, it is regarded as acceptable. Autodesk VIZ program and the authors'-developed program were applied to evaluate a view right in apartment buildings and its effectiveness was verified by comparing computer simulation with actual photos.

  • This study investigated Seoul's image as a tourism destination that Chinese tourists perceived, taking advantage of Chinese Social Media "Renren". The study used visual method (V-method) to collect images and analyzed them in terms of convergent disciplinary approach. It searched Chinese word, "首爾", in Renren social network. 526 Seoul's photos were collected from 129 users' mini-homepage. Destination planners and marketers should understand how the Chinese tourists perceive the Seoul's image and recognize the contribution factors to representations of the city. It is recommended that more cultural experience should be offered to Chinese tourists.

  • Still today, many streams are channelized and embanked in Korea. On the other hand, some urban streams are being restored to their natural shapes by landscape planners. It would be better to improve rural streams in a way that would not require restoration in later days. Then, one important question is what kind of embankments the residents prefer for what reasons. Five simulated photos showing from very natural to artificial embankments were used in surveying 90 residents of three villages. Major findings are ; 1. Residents regard safety(from flooding) is the most critical factor to be considered in selection of stream bank materials. 2. They think ideal materials are natural stones or concrete blocks as they look tidy. Concrete retaining walls or vegetated natural slopes are not regarded good. 3. The most preferred material is concrete retaining wall, and the least preferred is vegetated natural slope. They prefer concrete retaining wall which they do not think an ideal material, because it will make a safe bank. 4. Natural stone bank is most preferred for its apperance, and vegetated natural slpoe is most disliked as it may collapse and as it does not look clean.

  • A web-based camera (webcam) is expected to enhance construction operation monitoring. However, webcams are often installed outside a building because their mobility is limited by cable wiring, which makes it difficult to monitor construction operations inside the building. If a webcam is integrated with emerging wireless communication technologies, construction professionals may be able to monitor interior construction operations using webcams without getting network cables wired on a congested and dynamic construction job site. However, one may concern that wireless communication may not be fast enough to transport all webcam images seamlessly. This paper presents an investigation as to the observation error of webcam images when a limited amount of images are delivered.

  • This study examined the overall relationship between information privacy concern, need for uniqueness (NFU), and disclosure behavior to explain the personal factors that drive data-sharing on Facebook. The results of an online survey conducted with 222 Facebook users show that among diverse data that social media users disclose online, four distinct factors are identified: basic personal data, private data, personal opinions, and personal photos. In general, there is a negative relationship between privacy concern and a positive relationship between the NFU and the willingness to self-disclose information. Overall, the NFU was a better predictor of willingness to disclose information than privacy concern, gender, or age. While privacy concern has been identified as an influential factor when users evaluate social networking sites, the findings of this study contribute to the literature by demonstrating that an individual's need to manifest individualization on social media overrides privacy concerns.

  • This image of Kangseogu in Pusan, is a digital merge of aerial photos by scale of 1/1,200 map. The merge was carried out 2nd affine and bilinear interpolation. It can improve digital classification to help choose training sites and interprete classification results, and improve visual interpretation, as in this case, by adding detailed information to the multispectral TM data.
