Photoluminescence characteristics of ZnO thin films by Pulsed laser deposition (PLD를 이용한 ZnO 박막의 발광에 관한 연구)

  • ZnO thin films on (100)p-type silicon substrates have been deposited by pulsed laser deposition(PLD) technique using an Nd:YGA laser with a wavelength of 266nm. The influence of the deposition parameters, such as oxygen pressure, substrate temperature and laser energy density variation on the properties of the grown film, was studied. The experiments were performed for substrate temperatures in the range of $200{\sim}500^{\circ}C$ and oxygen pressure in the range of $10^{-2}{\sim}10^2mTorr$. We investigated the structural, morphological and optical properties of ZnO thin films using X-ray diffraction(XRD), atomic force microscopy(AFM), photoluminescence(PL).

  • 1-(9,9-Di-octyl-fluorenyl)-2-substituted-2-cyanvinylene was synthesized and emission feature in solution are presented. Photoluminescence characteristics of 1-(9,9-Di-octyl-fluorenyJ)-2-substituted-2-cyanvinylene are measured by solvents such as carbon tetrachloride, normal hexane, chloroform, ethylaccetate, acetonitrile, methanol. It is shown that depending in the strength of the donor-acceptor internal charge transfer, and emission spectra are more or less red-shifted.

  • The purpose of this project is the synthesis of dihydrosilole and its optical characterization for their applications. Dihydrosilole was synthesized from the reduction reaction of either dichlorosilole or chlorohydrosilole with lithium aluminium hydride. The reaction yield for the dihydrosilole through the latter method was higher. The optical characteristics and AIEE effect of dihydrosilole nanoaggregates was investigated for the purpose of increasing the photoluminescence efficiency. Photoluminescence efficiency of dihydrosilole nanoaggregates increased about 100 times compared to that of molecular state.

Variation of Photoluminescence in Zirconia Gel by Pyrolysis (지르코니아 겔에서 열처리에 따른 광발광의 변화)

  • In this study, we prepared zirconia gel by the sol-gel method and investigated its photoluminescence properties by varying pyrolysis temperature. The addition of acetic acid into a Zr-alkoxide solution resulted in forming the bidentate ligands with Zr ions and producing a stable gel. At the pyrolysis temperature of $350^{\circ}C$, the zirconia nanocrystals with tetragonal structure gradually appeared in the gel. The PL intensity of the zirconia gel increased with increasing the pyrolysis temperature up to $350^{\circ}C$, but decreased above the temperature. Concurrently, its PL peak wavelength continuously shifted from ${\sim}440\;nm$ to ${\sim}550\;nm$ with the temperature. The PL characteristics of the zirconia gels were closely associated with decomposition of residual organic groups, the formation of the zirconia nanocrystals, and the tetragonal to monoclinic phase transformation.

  • HWE 법으로 전 영역의 ZnMnTe 단결정 박막을 성장하였다. 상온 반사 스펙트럼으로부터 상온에서의 에너지 띠 간격이 Mn 조성비 증가에 따라 선형적으로 증가함을 알았다. 외부 자기장이 없는 10 K에서의 photoluminescence 스펙트럼에서 엑시톤 관련 near edge emission과 큰 조성비에서 지배적인 inta-$Mn^{2+}$ transition($^4T_1{\rightarrow}^6A_1$)을 관측하였다. edge emission은 조성비에 따라 선형적이고, intra-ion transition은 거의 변화가 없었다.

  • The photoluminescence was measured in GaAs-AlGaAs double-quantum-well structure at high magnetic field. Although the phototransition characteristics displayed a free-particle transition at low magnetic field, the change of free-particle transition into bound-exciton transition was observed at high magnetic field (above 10 T). A charged exciton formation due to charge-unbalanced electron-hole was identified by using a spin-polarized photoluminescence method. An increase of exciton formation due to the localization of free-particle at magnetic field was observed according to the increase of magnetic field.

  • In this study, ZnTe : S single crystal thin films substituted by sulfur were grown on GaAs (100) substrates by hot-wall epitaxy. The photoluminescence (PL) characteristics of ZnTe : S single crystal thin films was measured to investigate the effects due to sulfur atoms in the ZnTe layer. The Peak of 2.339 eV identified as the isoelectronic center was observed in low temperature PL spectrum, but PL spectra which the origin had not been well-explained were not observed. Temperature dependence of PL intensities of the light hole free exciton was explained by extrinsic self-trapping. Besides it is reported that the emission lines near absorption edge at room temperature were observed.

  • The photoluminescence (PL) characteristics of the silicon-oxygen(Si-O) superlattice formed by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) were studied. To confirm the presence of the nanocrystalline Si structure, Raman scattering measurement was performed. The blue shift was observed in the PL peak of the oxygen-annealed sample, compared to the hydrogen-annealed sample, which is due to a contribution of smaller crystallites. Our results determine the right direction for the fabrication of silicon-based optoelectronic and quantum devices as well as for the replacement of silicon-on-insulator (SOI) in high-speed and low-power silicon MOSFET devices in the future.

  • For this study, terbium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG:Tb) phosphor powders were prepared via the combustion process using the varous reagents. The characteristics of the synthesized nano powder were investigated by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM), and photoluminescence (PL). Single-phase cubic YAG:Tb crystalline powder was obtained at $1000^{\circ}C$ by directly crystallizing it from amorphous materials, as determined by XRD techniques. The SEM image showed that the resulting YAG:Tb powders had uniform sizes and good homogeneity. The photoluminescence spectra of the YAG:Tb nanoparticles were investigated to determinethe energy level of electron transition related to luminescence processes. There were three peaks in the excited spectrum, and the major one was a broad band of around 274 nm. Also, the YAG:Tb nanoparticles showed two emission peaks in the range of 450~500 nm and 525~560 nm, respectively, and had maximum intensity at 545 nm.

  • Electroluminescent(EL) devices based on organic materials have been of great interest due to their possible applications for large-area flat-panel displays. They are attractive because of multicolor emission low operation voltage. In this study, several Eu complexes such as Eu(TPB)$_3$(Phen) and Eu(TPB)$_3$(Bpy) were synthesized and the photoluminescence(PL) and electroluminescence (EL) characteristics of their thin films were investigated by fabricating the devices having a structure of glass substrate/ITO/TPD/Europium-complexs/Alq$_3$/Al, where aromatic diamine(TPD) was used as an hole transporting and Alq$_3$ was used as an electron transporting materials. It was found that the photoluminescence(PL) and electroluminescence(EL) characteristics of these Europium complexes were dependent upon the ligands coordinated to Europium metal. Details on the explanation of electrical transport phenomena of the structure with I-V characteristics of the OLEDs using the trapped-charge-limited current(TCLC) model will be discussed.
