The Photography as Technological Aesthetics (데크놀로지 미학으로서의 사진)

  • Today, photography is facing to the crisis of identity and dilemma of ontology from the digital imaging process in the new technology form. It is very important points to say rethinking of the traditional photographic medium, that has changed the way we view the world and ourselves is perhaps an understatement and that photography has transformed our essential understanding of reality. Now, no longer are photographic images regarded as the true automatic recording, innocent evidence and the mirror to the reality. Rather, photography constructs the world for our entertainment, helping to create the comforting illusions by which we live. The recognition that photographs are not constructions and reflections of reality, is the basis for the actual presence within the contemporary photographic world. It is shock. This thesis's aim is to look for the problems of photographic identity and ontological crisis that is controlling and regulating digital photographic imagery, allowing the reproduction of the electronic simulations era. Photography loses its special aesthetic status and becomes no more true information and, exclusively evidence by traditional film and paper that appeared both as a technological accuracy and as a medium-specific aesthetic. The result, photography is facing two crises, one is the photographic ontology(the introduction of computerized digital images) and the other is photographic epistemology(having to do broader changes in ethics, knowledge and culture). Taken together, these crises apparently threaten us with the death of photography, with the 'end' of photography and the culture it sustains. The thesis's meaning is to look into the dilemma of photography's ontology and epistemology, especially, automatical index and digital codes from its origin, meaning, and identity as the technological medium. Thus, in particular, thesis focuses on the analog imagery presence, from the nature in the material world, and the digital imagery presence from the cultural situations in our society. And also thesis's aim is to examine the main issues of the history of photography has been concentrated on the ontological arguments since the discovery of photography in 1839. Photography has never been only one static technology form. Rather, its nearly two centuries of technological development have been marked by numerous, competing of technological innovation and self revolution from the dual aspects. This thesis examines recent account of photography by the analysis of the medium's concept, meaning, identity between film base image and digital base image from the aspects of photographic ontology and epistemology. Thus, the structure of thesis is fairy straightforward to examine what appear to be two opposing view of photographic conditions and ontological situations. Thesis' view contrasts that figure out the value of photography according to its fundamental characteristic as a medium. Also, it seeks a possible solution to the dilemma of photographic ontology through the medium's origin from the early years of the nineteenth century to the raising questions about the different meaning(analog/digital) of photography, now. Finally, this thesis emphasizes and concludes that the photographic ontological crisis reflects to the paradoxical dynamic structure, that unsolved the origins of the medium, itself. Moreover, even photography is not single identity of the photographic ontology, and also can not be understood as having a static identity or singular status from the dynamic field of technologies, practices, and images.

Diel Activity Patterns of Water Deer (Hydropotes inermis) and Wild Boar (Sus scrofa) in a Suburban Area Monitored by Long-term Camera-Trapping (장기 카메라트래핑 모니터링 자료를 활용한 도시근교의 고라니 및 멧돼지 일주기성 연구)

  • This study aimed to figure out diel activity patterns of water deer and wild boar, whose habitat is disturbed by human activity in a suburban area. Photographic data of water deer and wild boar collected by 18 camera traps from January 2021 to November 2022 was categorized into four diel periods (dawn, day, dusk, and night), and converted into frequencies per 100 CTD (Camera Trap-Days) for seasonal and spatial diel activity pattern analysis. Water deer exhibited intense nocturnality in fall, and wild boar did in fall and winter. During the fall, water deer's night-time capture rate was the highest (61.9%), and day-time photographic rate was the lowest (13.9%) among other seasons. During the fall and winter, wild boar's night-time photographic rate was relatively high (77.6%, 78.0%, respectively), and day-time photographic rate was relatively low (0.7%, 1.8%) in comparison with other seasons. In spatial diel activity analysis, both water deer and wild boar showed a tendency to avoid humans, especially near trails during day-time hours. The day-time photographic rate of water deer in trail-near group was 12.1% and trail-far group was 24.6%. The day-time photographic rate of wild boar was 3.4%, 5.7%, respectively. Because the diel activity patterns of wildlife reflect human disturbance, this study provides useful ecological information for developing appropriate management plans for the coexistence of water deer and wild boar in suburban areas.

The Synthesis of Hardener for Photography and Hardening Test (사진용 경막제의 합성과 경막시험)

  • The hardening test of gelatin with 2,4-dichloro-6-hydroxy-1,3,5-triazine mono sodium salt was studied at pH 5, 7, 8 and about increasing temperature, respectively. The hardener was prepared by the reaction of cyanuric chloride with sodium hydroxide, disodium hydrogenphosphate-12-water and trisodium phosphate-12-water in the presence of water. The product was identified by elemental analyzer. IR spectrophotometer. Novel hardener can be used in photographic emulsion and showed very good hardening effect.

  • 본 연구는 제작된 OLED 소자에 UV의 조사시간에 따른 PL intensity 의 감소와 UV power에 따른 PL degradation 변화에 따라 적절한 UV의 조사조건을 찾아 OLEO 소자의 사진이미지를 구현하고자 하였다. 이러한 조건들로부터 얻어진 OLED 소자의 사진이미지 구현을 통하여 그동안 문제점으로만 여겨졌던 UV에 의한 PL degradation 현상이 문제점만이 아닌 다른 하나의 장점으로 발전되어 다른 분야에서 적용될 수 있다고 기대해본다.

  • In this study, sensitizing dye was prepared by the reaction of 2-methyl-3-sulfopropyl-4, 5-naphthothiazolium(inner salt) with triethyl orthoformate in the presence of triethylamine. The product was identified by using various analytical tools such as Elemental analyzer, IR spectrophotometer, UV-Vis spectrophotometer, $^1H-NMR$ spectrometer, TGA and DSC. Therefore, it was concluded that naphthothiazolo carbocyanine dye can be used as red-sensitizing dye for the spectral sensitization of photographic emulsion.

  • The purpose of the study is to analyze the judicial precedents of the copyright relating to advertising focusing on the photographic works and find the characteristics of the legal principles of the copyright infringement or no. As the results of the analyses of the exact 6 precedents, the creativity of the works was the main issue of the judgment of the copyright infringement or no, comparing that 'on the basis' and 'practical similarity' were mainly applied the judgment. It is implied that the photographic works depending on the technologies are more difficult to prove their creativity, and the simple photo of the product itself without or lack of the photographer's creative effort and labor is not acknowledged as a copyrighted work in advertising area.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare somatotypes from various classification methods, to analyze the interrelation among each somatotype or each high frequency type, and to suggest the basis to interpret body size and shape more accurately. As a sample, the subjects were 97 Korean females between 18 and 24 years old. They were measured both anthropometric and photographic measuring in November, 1999. Their somatotypes were classified by three kinds of classification methods. The first method was based on the lateral view of body, the second involved Factor and Cluster analysis with the photographic measurements of anterior and lateral body, and the third involved Factor and Cluster analysis with the anthropometric measurements of whole body. The upper body was classified into three types, and the lower body was classified into 6 types from the lateral view of body. The bend-forward/q-2 was found to be the 'High-frequency type from the lateral view of body', and the Straight/n-1 was found to be the 'Straight type from the lateral view of body'. From the classification by the analysis of photographic measurements, the anterior body was classified into three types, the lateral was classified into 4 types. The X/${\varepsilon}$ type was found to be the 'High-frequency type from the analysis of photographic measurements of anterior and lateral body'. From the classification by the analysis of anthropometric measurements, the whole body was classified into three types. The i type was found to be the 'High-frequency type from the analysis of anthropometric measurements of whole body'. The significant interrelation was certified among some somatotypes or some High-frequency types. We found that both the view of body and the statistical analysis would make the clear definition of each somatotype possible. In order to certify the representativeness of High-frequency type, further analysis would be required of subjects who were in the High-frequency type and their body parts were in the High-frequency range.

Analysis of affective words on photographic images and the effects of color on the images (사진 이미지와 관련된 감성 어휘 분석 및 색 유무에 따른 감성 반응 비교)

  • The affective words on photographic images were analyzed and a model was structured. Based on this model, the effects of color on the affections were studied. In study 1, the photographic images with various materials and techniques were presented and the affective responses are collected. The factor analysis using principal axing method showed that the variance of the affective words could be explained about 42% by the three factors. These are named positive-negative, dynamic-static, light-heavy, respectively. In study 2, the effects of color on the affections were evaluated on three basic dimensions. Ninety representative color images were converged black-and-white images, and each of 180 images was rated on the three affective scales. The t-test showed that the effects of color are statistically significant on the three affective scales, respectively. The achromatic images were felt more negative, more static, and heavier than chromatic images.

  • As modern computer graphics technology has been developed, it is hard to discriminate computer graphics from photographic images with the naked eye. Advances in graphics technology has brought a lot of convenience to human, it has side effects such as image forgery, malicious edit and fraudulent means. In order to cope with such problems, studies of various algorithms using a feature that represents a characteristic of an image has been processed. In this paper, we verify directly the existing algorithm, and provide new features based a noise that represents the characteristics of the computer graphics well. And this paper introduces the method of using SVM(Support Vector Machine) with features proposed in previous research to improve the discrimination accuracy.

  • As archives, photograph is the evident records of historical facts and experiences. Thus, it is worth preserving. Unlike other documents silver halide photographic films and prints are quite sensitive to environmental factors such as light, temperature and humidity, which demands careful treatment in preservation. This study was carried out to select popular photographic films and papers on the market, to examine their photographic speeds (or sensitivities) and to compare and analyze their preservative features after keeping them some time in a weather-o-meter. Consequently, B/W materials were superior to color ones in preservation. And films were better than papers in the same manner. But we were not able to observe remarkable differences among material's manufacturers.
