By analyzing the Ge 34 core-level photoelectron spectrum, we studied the structure of the $Li/Ge(111)-3\times1$ surface. Two surface related components tying on either side of the main bulk peak were identified in the Ge 3d spectrum. The existence and the position of the two surface components in the core-level spectrum from $Li/Ge(111)-3\times1$ is similar to those of the $Li/Ge(111)-3\times1$, suggesting the similarities in structure of the two surfaces. The core-level photoelectron spectra of the Li-induced $Li/Ge(111)-3\times1$ surface are well consistent with the honeycomb-chain-channel model, which was proposed as the structure of the $Si/Ge(111)-3\times1$ induced by alkali metals.
The C 1s photoelectron energy loss spectra of tris (8-hydroxy-quinoline) aluminum (Alq$_3$) and N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-bis (3-methyl phenyl)-1,1'-bi-phenyl-4,4'-diamine (TPD) thin films have been investigated. Two major loss structures, namely the plasmon dominated loss lines and shake-up satellites, have been observed. The shake-up spectrum of the C 1s photoelectron line is directly related to the $\pi$-$\pi$$\^$*/ energy gap of the molecule which plays an important role in organic electroluminescent materials. The molecular orbitals of Alq$_3$ and TPD and their major components, quinolime and benzene, have been calculated with the AMI semi-empirical method. The amount of the plasma-dominated loss of Alq$_3$ and TPD, which has to do with the delocalization of electrons through the molecule, was about 24 eV, alike in both cases. The main peak of the C 1s shake-up spectrum of Alq$_3$ and TPD, however, was 5.2 eV and 6.8 eV respectively. It was found that the main shake-up peak reflects more the local $\pi$\longrightarrow$\pi$$\^$*/ transition of quinoline and benzene component rather than the excitation of the whole molecule of Alq$_3$ and TPD. The C 1s shake-up spectra, however, revealed some correlation with the optical energy gap of the organic eletroluminescent materials.
The surface chemistry of D2O dosed Zircaloy-4 (Zry-4) surface followed by Ar-ion bombardment and annealing was studied by means of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS). In the XPS study, Ar-ion bombardment caused decrease of the oxygen on the surface region of Zry-4 and therefore led to change the oxidation states of the zirconium from oxide to metallic form. In addition, oxidation states of zirconium were changed to lower oxidation states of zirconium due to depopulation of oxygen on the surface region by annealing. Up to about 787 K, the bulk oxygen diffused out to the subsurface region and after this temperature, the oxygen on the surface of Zry-4 was depopulated. UPS study showed that the valence band spectrum of the D2O exposed Zry-4 exhibited a dominant peak at around 13 eV and no clear Fermi edge was detected. After stepwise Ar+ sputtering processes, the decrease of the oxygen on the surface of Zry-4 led to suppress the dominant peak around 13 eV, the peak around 9 eV and develop a new peak of the metallic Zr 4d state (20.5-21.0 eV) at the Fermi level.
We experimentally measure the kinetic energy and angular distributions of photoelectrons of $N_2$ as a function of 410 nm femtosecond laser intensity by using velocity map imaging technique. The strong-field multiphoton ionization of molecules shares many of the characteristics with those of atoms. Electron kinetic energies are nearly independent of laser intensities. The independence suggests that the electron peaks in the photoelectron spectrum actually result from a two-step process, indicative of the occurrence of real population in the intermediate states. The relative amplitudes of electron peaks indicate that in the two-step process, nonresonant population transfer dominates for low intensities, while resonant population transfer dominates for higher intensities.
This brief review contains surveys of both four-component and two-component relativistic molecular theories. First the four-component relativistic approach is reviewed. Emphasis is placed on efficient computational schemes for the four-component Dirac-Hartree-Fock and Dirac-Kohn-Sham methods. Next, in the twocomponent relativistic framework, two relativistic Hamiltonians, RESC and higher-order Douglas-Kroll (DK), are introduced. An illustrative application is shown for the relativistic study on valence photoelectron spectrum of OsO₄. The developing four-component relativistic and approximate quasi-relativistic methods have been packed in a program suite named REL4D.

Various oxide particles are synthesized in an ambient condition using an electron beam irradiation system. The formation of oxide particles is confirmed by FT-IR spectra results and the X-ray photoelectron spectrum. It is also shown that the morphology and size of oxide particles are significantly influenced by the type and flowrate of dilution gas. The energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis also confirms that various oxide particles are synthesized.

Electron Spectroscopy for Chemical Analysis(ESCA) allowes the determination of the elemental composition and the bonding state of the surface atomes in the interface between two materials. In the binding energies of ESCA spectrum, there are zero error, voltage scaling error and random error. Accurate analysis of the intensity energy response functions and accurate calibration of the energy scale are essential to use X-ray photoelectron spectron meter. At the results of the calibration of the ESCA spectra in the copper and cordierite (Mg2Al4Si5kO18) interfaces, the errors relative to the copper are -3.03 eV for the zero error -z,-197 ppm for the voltage scaling error -V and 6.9 meV for the random error -R. The method of the calibration is able to apply for the binding energy calibration of the another ESCA spectra.

The effect of accelerated aging test on ethylene-propylene-diene monomer(EPDM) rubber used for outdoor insulation was studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), scanning electron microscope(SEM), FFT spectrum alalysis, and electrical pulse counts using PC by oscilloscope(300 MHz). In electrical alalysis, FFT spectrum analysis indicated arcing caused a significant increase in the third harmonic content of the leakage current of polluted insulator. Also, pulse counts increased as aging time. The surface oxygen and aluminum content were found to increase and that of carbon and nitrogen were found to decrease with time. The detailed XPS analysis indicated that the concentration of carbon in C-C decreased and concentration of highly oxidized carbons increased with time, which was due to the oxidation of EPDM rubber polymer SEM analysis indicated that crack and erosion of EPDM rubber occurred with time.
This study investigated the methodologies to enhance the corrosion resistance and the ways to measure for subsea equipment made of aluminum. The methodologies for the anticorrosion were cathodic protection, conversion coating, anodizing and organic coating. The simply analyzed ways to measure the corrosion resistance were Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), Glow discharge optical emission spectrum spectroscopy (GD-OES), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Scanning Vibrating Electrode Technique (SVET), contact angle and interfacial tension. The most widely used tools for increasing the corrosion resistance were the anodizing and the organic coating. Many ways were evenly used to measure corrosion. The methods more frequently utilized were SEM for the surface investigation and the contact angle to evaluate the corrosion resistance.
