The aim of present study is to elucidate the relationship between decay rate of soil organic matter, and the change of soil microbial population under the oak and pine forest soils in Kwang-nung plantation stand. The results obtained are as follows: 1) The correlation coefficient between decay rate and the soil bacteria is 0.84 and fungi 0.93. 2) The distribution of soil microbial population is higher in both F horizon of the oak forest soil, and F and H horizon of the pine forest soil. However, the number of soil microorganisms decreases with the depth in each forest soil. 3) The population of soil microbes is related to moisture content, total nitrogen, available phosphorus, and exchangeable calcium, except organic carbon in fungi. 4) The soil organic matter has been mainly decomposed by fungi, and the size of its population are governed by the factors such as moisture content, organic carbon, total nitrogen, available phosphorus, and exchangeable calcium.
The effects of different particle size distribution of fused phosphate on the changes of phosphorus content in soil and plant, growth and yield of paddy rice were investigated through pot and field experiments. The following results were obtained. 1. Negative correlation was found between unhulled rice yield and the composition of fused phosphate whose particle size was larger than 28 mesh, and 65 to 150 mesh, and highly significant correlation was found between unhulled rice yield and the composition of fused phosphate whose particle size was 28 to 48 mesh. But no significant correlation was found betweeen unhulled rice yield and the composition of fused phosphate whose particle size was 48 to 65 mesh. Thus the composition of 56% of 28 to 48 mesh particles and 44% of 48 to 65 mesh particles would give the best effect. 2. In the soil of the Jeonbug series rice plant in the plots treated with fine single textured fused phosphate showed poor early growth, i.e. poor tillering and short plant height. But at harvesting stage it showed rather increased number of tillers and higher plant height. Of the composite fused phosphate the more particles of 28 to 48 mesh it had, the better growth it showed. In the soil of the Yesan series rice plant in the treated plots showed much better tillering and higher plant height in contrast with that in the control plots. Of the single textured fused phosphate the finer particles showed better growth, while of the composite fused phosphate the more particles finer than 48 mesh it had, the poorer the tillering. 3. The content of available phosphorus in the soil tended to increase as the particles of both single textured and composite phosphate became finer. The soil phosphorus content decreased as the content of phosphorus absorbed by rice plant increased at each stage of growth, and the amount of soil phophorus decreased became larger as the the particles were finer. The amount of available phosphorus in the treated soils was larger in the soil of the Yesan series than in the soil of the Jeonbug series which was a long cultivated soil and contained relatively high phosphorus. 4. In the single textured fused phosphate the amount of phosphorus absorbed by rice plant tended to increase as the particles were finer, and great difference was found at heading stage, but at harvesting stage little difference was found for all the plots. In the field experiment in the soil of the Jeonbug series more phosphorus was absorbed by rice plant in the plots treated with the composite fused phosphate of higher content of 28 to 48 mesh particles. In the pot experiment the amount of phosphorus absorbed by rice plant was highest in the plots treated with the composite fused phosphate of 53.35% of particles larger than 48 mesh and 46.6% of particles smaller than 48 mesh. In the pot experiment in the Yesan series the amount of absorbed phophorus was highest in the plots treated with the fused phosphate of 47.75% of particles larger than 48 mesh and 50. 216% of particles smaller than 48 mesh. 5. A reverse relationship was found between the absorbed phosphorus and silica. In the pot experiment in the soils of both the Jeonbug and Yesan series the amount of phosphorus absorbed by rice plant increased as the particles were finer, while the amount of absorbed silica tended to decrease.
1. Chemical components of fresh tobacco leaves at topping stages were affected variously by fertilizer application level. The more fertilizers were applicated, the higher nitrogen content of leaves was shown regardless of the soil fertility, but phosphorus content was not affected either by phosphorus rate or soil fertility. Potassium content was higher in the leaves grown in fertile soil than infertile at the same application rate. 2. Maturation of tobacco leaves was delayed by applying high level of nitrogen fertilizer, especially in fertile soil. The excessive accumulation of nitrogen in tobacco leaves at later stage of growth resulted in poor quality index for the high content of nicotine and low content of reducing sugar in cured leaves. 3. Nicotine content of cured leaf was increased significantly as nitrogen content increased, regardless of soil fertility, but reducing sugar content was reduced. Nicotine and reducing sugar content of cured leaf were higher in fertile than in infertile soil. 4. Resulting from the facts that nicotine contents were negatively correlated and reducing sugar contents were positively correlated with grading value (Won/Kg), authors suggested that grading index (Won/Kg) of the Office of Monopoly be based on quality index from chemical components of cured leaves.
Silicon and phosphorus are elements that are beneficial for plant growth. Despite the abundant availability of silicate and phosphate in the Earth's crust, crop nutritional requirements for silicon and phosphorus are normally met through the application of fertilizer. However, fertilizers are one of the major causes of heavy metal pollution. In our study, we aimed to assess silicate and phosphate solubilization by the bacteria Enterobacter ludwigii GAK2, in the presence and absence of phosphate [Ca3(PO4)2] or silicate (Mg2O8Si3), to counteract cadmium stress in rice (Oryza sativa L). Our results showed that the GAK2-treated rice plants, grown in soil amended with phosphate [Ca3(PO4)2] or silicate (Mg2O8Si3), had significantly reduced cadmium content, and enhanced plant growth promoting characteristics including fresh shoot and root weight, plant height, and chlorophyll content. These plants showed significant downregulation of the cadmium transporter gene, OsHMA2, and upregulation of the silicon carrier gene, OsLsi1. Moreover, jasmonic acid levels were significantly reduced in the GAK2-inoculated plants, and this was further supported by the downregulation of the jasmonic acid related gene, OsJAZ1. These results indicate that Enterobacter ludwigii GAK2 can be used as a silicon and phosphorus bio-fertilizer, which solubilizes insoluble silicate and phosphate, and mitigates heavy metal toxicity in crops.

Reaction intermediates PCP/BZA (PBI) and tetramethylene bis(orthophosphate)(TBOP) were synthesized from polycaprolactone (PCP) and benzoic acid (BZA) and from pyrophosphoric acid and 1,4-butanediol, respectively. Benzoic acid modified polyesters containing phosphorus (APTB-S, -10, -15) were synthesized by polycondensation of the prepared PBI (containing 5, 10, 15wt% of benzoic acid), TBOP, adipic acid, and 1,4-butanediol. Network structured PU flame-retardant coatings (APHD) were prepared by curing the synthesized benzoic acid modified polyesters containing phosphorus (APT B - 5 , -10, -15) with hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI)-timer. From the TGA analysis of APTBs, it was found that the afterglow decreased with the amount of BZA content at the high temperatures. With the introduction of BZA, the film viscosity and film hardness of APHD decreased. With the introduction of caprolactone group, the flexibility, impact resistance, accelerated weathering resistance of APTBs increased. Flame retardancy of the coatings was tested. In a vertical burning method, APHD shows 210$^{\sim}$313 seconds, which indicates that the coatings are good flame-retardant coatings. Moreover, the amount of afterglow and flame retardancy of the coatings are decreased with increasing BZA content.
The effect of supplemental microbial phytase and non - phytate phosphorus(NPP) levels on layer productivity and nutrient digestibility were conducted in 640 21 weeks - old HyLine brown layer for 12 weeks. Supplemented phytase levels were 0, 300, 500 and 1,000 DPU/kg diet. NPP levels were adjusted with tricalcium phosphate(TCP), which were 0(0.11% NPP), 0.5(0.20), 1.0(0.29) and 1.5%(0.38). ME, CP and Ca levels were maintained at 2,800㎉/kg diet, 16% and 3.5%, respectively. Egg production was increased with phytase compared to without phytase(P〈0.05). Increasement of egg production was higher latter of experimental period. Egg production was not different to phytase levels. Egg production in TCP levels were increased in above 0.5% compared to 0% TCP. Difference of egg production by TCP was higher after 6 week. Especially, egg production to supplemental phytase was higher in 0% TCP. Egg weight was not different to phytase and TCP levels. Egg mass was increased with phytase compared to without phytase, but not difference significantly. There was similar to phytase levels. Egg mass in TCP group was increased in TCP supplementation(P〈0.05). Feed intake was not different in phytase levels, and greater with increasing TCP levels(P〈0.05). Feed conversion was improved with phytase(P〈0.05), and not difference in TCP levels. All of nutrients digestibility tended to improve with phytase, P(P〈0.05), especially. There were not different among phytase levels. The effect of adding phytase was higher in low phosphorus diets compared normal levels. Eggshell breaking strength and eggshell thickness also improved in added phytase(P〈0.05). Tibial ash and P content were slightly increased with phytase, and Ca content also was higher(P〈0.05) compared without phytase. We concluded that supplemental phytase in low phosphorus diet was showed to increase laying performance, feed efficiency, nutrients digestibility, egg quality, and bone development. Phytase supplementation was able to compensate for low NPP diet. We also thought optimum phytase level is 300 DPU, and can decrease NPP supplementation adding phytase in later diet.
There are remarkable differences in growth and morphological characters of roots between mountain and field cultivated Panax ginseng. Growth of root in mountain cultivated ginseng was much slower than that of field cultivated ginseng. However, the factor affecting the retarded growth in mountain ginseng was not known. Soil analysis revealed that phosphorus (P) content of mountain soil was exceptionally low at least ten-fold lower compared to that of field soil. Thus, we suggest that low availability of P in mountain soil may be one of the limiting factors for growth of ginseng in mountain soil environment. We had monitored the growth of ginseng plants after one and three years of phosphate fertilizer application. Three kinds of phosphate fertilizers: fused magnesium phosphate, fused superphosphate, and single superphosphate were applied to mountain soil. Application of phosphate fertilizers increased the fresh-, dry weight, and diameter of ginseng roots and resulted in increased P accumulation in roots. These results demonstrate that slow growth of ginseng in mountain soil environment might be attributed to the low P content in mountain soil. Thus, analysis of P amount in mountain soil will be a good indicator for the selection of suitable site the ginseng cultivation in forest.
We examined the effect of simultaneous application of phosphorus (P) and iron (Fe) on the phytotoxicity of lettuce in arsenic (As) contaminated soil using response surface methodology (RSM). To stabilize As and supply nutrient into soil, Fe and P were treated, respectively. Water soluble As and P was decreased by Fe application but increased by P application. Through phytotoxicity test, the result showed that only the addition of P affected lettuce root elongation even though both P and Fe were added. The correlation coefficients between root elongation and other indices indicated that the As content in the roots seemed to be the main reason that root growth was impeded. We could verify that the former result was not a passing phenomenon and Fe was necessarily needed to protect secondary pollution by exclusive usage of P fertilizer.
The problem for the removal of phosphorus increased due to reasons like eutrophication control. However its removal and operating criteria were not well developed. This study was made for enhanced removal of P by iron contactor by intermittent aeration activated sludge process. Experiment was conducted to find the effects of organic substance load and HRT, nutrient removal efficiency. When applied organic substance load and HRT, II &III reactor were good treatment efficient while come from Fe of iron contactor. Release of phophorus from II &III reactor sludge under anaerobic condition was low. As the process developed, the content of released ionized Fe from iron contactor increased. In addition, the rate of phosphorus removal became accelerating, and the removed sludge was stabilized in the existence of insoluble status.

This paper was performed to estimate interrelations between humus level of sediments and nutrient release from sediments in Dae-cheong reservoir. For investigations, sediments were sampled in June and October, in 1997 at fish farms, embayment, and the main stream of Dae-cheong reservoir. Items for investigation are as follows; water content, weight loss on ignition(IG), porosities of sediments, contents of element such as hydrogen, nitrogen, carbon, and nutrient release rates. Water contents and porosities were measured to conjecture the physical trait and grain size trait. Weight loss on ignition was measured to determine the contents of organic substance. For determination of the humus level of sediments, carbon and nitrogen contents were measured by elemental analyzer. As a result of elemental analysis, C/N ratio was determined in the range of $3.0\~13.1$. From the elemental analysis, humus level of Dae-cheong reservoir sediment was estimated from mesohumic state to oligotrophic state. For the determination of nutrient release rate, $PO_4-P$ and $NH_4-N$ concentrations of interstitial water and overlying water were measured. By using the concentration difference between interstitial water and overlying water and using the Fick's diffusion law, the release rates of phosphorus and nitrogen from the sediment samples were calculated. Release rates of nutrients which directly influence to the water quality were $0.05\~8.63mgP/m^2day$ and $4.99\~36.56mgP/m^2day$. It was found that release rate was measured higher in the 1st sampling period than in the 2nd sampling period. For the determination of phosphorus content in sediment, TPs were measured in 807\~1542{\mu}g/g$ in the 1st samling period and $677\~5238{\mu}g/g$ in the End samling period. Phosphorus release rate and phosphorus content were not interrelated each other.
