The effect of potassium metabolism on the soybean leaves was studied with comparison of other elements during the successive growing period. The results were as follows; 1. The percentage of potassium content showed remarkable increase not only in the first compound leaf at a stage which was growing vigorously and producing new leaves, but also in the fifth compound leaf at a stage which was taking a active metabolism of nitrogen and carbohydrate but not producing new leaves. However, the percentage of potassium content was decreased in the second compound leaf than in the first one. Such a result could be regarded as a potassium removal from mature leaves into immature and flowing out from stoma through respiration. During the pod-development the percentage of potassium content in the soybean leaf was decreased. 2. If nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium were added excessively in the nutrient solution, the percentage of potassium content in the soybean leaf had increased. The effects of these elements showed a remakable increase in the excessive plot of nitrogen than in that of phosphorus. At early stage the redtarded effect of phosphorus on the growth of soybean could be covered by potassium, however, at late stage it could not. The growth of soybean plant was much more inhibited by potassium, compared with nitrogen and phosphorus. New leaves could not be produced in the potassium deficient soybean plant after the third compound leaf. The normal growth of soybean plant could not be observed if only one element was excessively added to the culture solution, compared with the deficiency of other two elements.
Water culture studies were conducted in the greenhouse with mulberry plants to investigate the nutrient uptake, especially Zn and Cu, under high phosphrous concentration. Mulberry plants were grown with five phosphorus levels(0, 0.2, 0.5, 2.0, 5.0 mM). Leaves and roots were analyzed for water content, total nitrogen, P, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Mn, total Zn, soluble Zn, Cu, Cl, $NO_3HPO_4$ and $SO_4$. Dry matter increased upto 2.0mM phosphorus level, and then decreased. Water content, total nitrogen, P, K, and Fe in leaves increased with increasing phosphorus level. Total Zn content in leaves showed little change, whereas soluble Zn increased and Cu decreased with increasing phosphorus level. With increasing phosphous level. $SO_4$ and Cl decreased and then sharply increased above 2.0mM phosphorus. Lower uptake of Cu and higher uptake of $SO_4$ and Cl suggest a cause of mulberry yield decline with high accumulation of soil phosphorus.
BACKGROUND: With increasing public awareness to environment-friendly agriculture, many efforts have been run to develop organic farming technologies in Korea as of late 90s. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of different organic farming practices on soil chemical properties and water quality in paddy fields. METHODS AND RESULTS: Total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP) were monitored for a two-year period (2006 to 2007) from the study organic paddy fields located in Wan-ju, Jeonbuk Province in Korea. TN and TP of organic paddy water were gradually increased for 2~3 weeks after organic manure application and then gradually decreased afterward. The overall variation of TP in the paddy fields was much greater than that of TN. The phosphorus content in organic paddy field appeared to increase with the organic farming period. CONCLUSION(s): This indicates that long-term organic farming is likely to cause phosphorus accumulation in soils and increase vulnerability to rainfall runoff. Thus, appropriate phosphorus management needs to be implemented, particularly, to reduce excessive phosphorus supply owing to nitrogen-based determination of organic manure application amount.
Recently, application of UHSS(Ultra High Strength Steels) whose tensile strength is over 1000MPa to car body structure are growing due to great needs for light weighting and improved crash worthiness. However, their poor weldability is one of obstacles to expand selecting to car body. In this study, effect of Phosphorus contents on resistance spot weldability of high elongation DP980 steel whose Si content is over 1% was investigated. The cross tension strength (CTS) was decreased showing partial interface fracture as Phosphorus content increase because of solidification segregation of Phosphorus. In order to improve resistance spot weldability by modification of welding condition, in-situ post-weld heating pulse was introduced after main pulse. The optimum cooling time between main and post pulse and post-pulse current condtion were determined through FEM welding simulation and DOE tests. The CTS was increased about 1.5 time showing plug fracture. The decrease of Phosphorus segregation was found to be a major reason for weld ductility and CTS improvement.
The present study was carried out to investigate the effects of magnesium supplement levels and periods on calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus metabolism in male Sprague-Dawley rats given low protein and magnesium deficient diets for 2 weeks. Serum calcium content was significantly lower in the magnesium supplement group than in the magnesium-deficient group, but calcium excretion in urine and feces was significantly increased as magnesium level and period was increased. Increasing the dietary magnesium level and periods raised serum content and excretion of magnesium in urine k feces. Urinary excretion of phosphorus in two week group was significantly lower in the magnesium supplement group than in the magnesium-deficient group. fecal phosphorus excretion in supplement group (Mg 800mg/kg diet) was significantly higher than that of other group. The effects of phosphorus and boron additions and isothermal holding time on the residual magnesium and sulfur content, and on the resultant graphite structure of cast irons were investigated. The effective recovery ratio of magnesium showed that adding phosphorus to the melt retarded the fading rate of magnesium but adding boron accelerated it. However, the residual sulfur content was found to be decreased with isothermal holding time at the begining, and then to be increased again with holding time by resulfurization. The Mg-Equivalent for producing compacted vermicular graphite structure was found to be increased with the addition of phosphorus, whereas to be decreased with the addition of boron.
The purpose of this experiment was to investigate the antioxidant effect of nitrite on total, neutral, and polar lipids and fatty acid composition in laboratory-cooked ground pork. Muscle samples (Biceps femoris) were analyzed using Iatroscan, gas chromatography, phosphorus content, and TBARS value. The total and neutral lipid contents of muscle were higher in nitrite-untreated meat (0 ppm) than in nitrite-treated meat (100 ppm) but the reverse was observed for polar lipid contents. The results for neutral lipids showed a similar trend when compared with total lipids. Polyunsaturated fatty acids contents of total, neutral and polar lipid in 100 ppm treated meat were higher than that of 0 ppm. The phosphorus content was higher in 100 ppm meat than in 0 ppm but the reverse was observed for TBARS value. These results showed that the addition of 100 ppm nitrite to ground pork resulted in a remarkable antioxidant effect during refrigeration storage.
Commercial pure iron powder and iron powder of coated 0.45% phosphorus were mixed with graphite powder in dry mixer to control carbon content from 0 wt% to 0.8 wt%. Mixed powder was pressed in the mould under the pressure of 510 MPa. Compacts were sintered at 118$0^{\circ}C$ for 40 min. in cracked ammonia gaseous atmosphere. Some of these sintered specimens were quenched in oil, and tempered in Ar gas. All of these specimens were investigated for microstructure, density and hardness in relation to coated phosphorus and carbon content. The results obtained were as follows: (1) The microstructure of the sintered speciments revealed that the amount of pearlite was increased with increasing C content but decreased by P-addition. (2) The P-addition affected the microstructure of pores in which the pore shape became round and its mean size was decreased by P-addition. (3) After tempering of sintered specimens the structure of pearlite was changed from fine structure to coarse one in P added specimen. (4) Hardness was higher in P added specimens.

The aim of this study is to synthesis basic resins for the preparation of PU flame-retardant coatings that contain phosphorus and chlorine. After synthesizing intermediates of tetramethylene bis(orthophophate) (TMBO) and neohexanediol trichlorobenzoate (TBA-adduct), the condensation polymerization was performed with the intermediates, 1,4-butanediol, and adipic acid to obtain four-component copolymers. In the condensation polymerization, the content of phosphorus was fixed to be 2%, and the content of trichlorobenzoic acid (TBA) that provides chlorine component was varied to be 10, 20, and 30wt%, and we designated the prepared modified polyesters containing chlorine and phosphorus as TTBA-10C, TTBA-20C and TTBA-30C. Average molecular weight and polydispersity index of the prepared TTBAs decreased with increasing TBA content because of the increase in the number of hydroxyl groups that retards reaction. We found that the thermal stability of the prepared TTBAs increased with chlorine content at high temperatures.

In order to verify any relationship between phosphorus content and buffer action vs. palatability of a foodstuff the present investigation was conducted on 28 items of foodstuff of both plant and animal and the followings are succinct report. In general, Foodstuffs of animal origin contained more phosphorus than those of plant origin. Foodstuffs with more phosphorus content were tended to have more buffer action. The palatability seems to be related with the capacity of buffer action.
