Effect of Age and Caponization on Blood Parameters and Bone Development of Male Native Chickens in Taiwan

  • An experiment was carried out to determine the effect of age and caponization on the development blood and bone characteristics development in male country chickens in Taiwan. A total of two hundred 8-wk-old LRI native chicken cockerels, Taishi meat No.13 from LRI-COA, were used as experimental animals. Cockerels were surgically caponized at 8 wks of age. Twelve birds in each group were bled and dressed from 8 wks to 35 wks of age at 1 to 5 wk intervals. The results indicated that the plasma testosterone concentration was significantly (p<0.05) lower in capons after 12 wks of age (caponized treatment after 4 wks) than that of the intact males. The relative tibia weight, bone breaking strength, cortical thickness, bone ash, bone calcium, bone phosphorus and bone magnesium contents were significantly (p<0.05) higher in intact males, while capons had higher (p<0.05) plasma ionized calcium, inorganic phosphorus and alkaline phosphatase concentration. The plasma testosterone concentration, relative tibia weight, tibia length, breaking strength, cortical thickness, bone ash, calcium, and phosphorus contents of intact males chickens increased significantly (p<0.05) with the advance of age. In addition, the relative tibia weight of capons peaked at 18 wks of age, and declined at 35 wks of age. The bone ash, calcium and phosphorus content increased most after 14 wks of age in male native chickens in Taiwan. Also, tibia length and cortical thickness peaked at 22 wks of age. However, the peak of bone strength was found at 26 wks of age. These findings support the assertion that androgens can directly influence bone composition fluxes in male chickens. Caponization caused a significant increase in bone loss at 4 wks post treatment, which reflected bone cell damage, and demonstrated reductions in the relative tibia weight, breaking strength, cortical thickness, bone ash, calcium, phosphorus and magnesium contents, and increases in plasma ionized calcium, inorganic phosphorus and alkaline phosphatase concentration.

인산축적 뽕밭의 인산 감량시비에 관한 연구 (Reduction of Phosphorus Fertilizer in Mulberry Fields, High in Phosphate)

  • 인산이 축적된 뽕밭에서 인산 시비량을 조절하기 위하여, 유효인산 300ppm 정도 포장 2개소, 450 ppm정도 포장 1개소에서 인산 표준시비량구(13kg/10a), 반량구, 무인산구, 무시비구 등을 설정하여 4년동안의 포장시험과 엽질검정을 위한 누에 사육시험을 3년동안 수행한 결과 다음과 같았다. 1. 토양유효인산 함량이 450ppm포장에서는 4년간 계속된 인산 무시비구에서도 뽕잎 수량감소가 없었으나, 300ppm포장에서의 무인산구에서는 3년차 봄부터, 인산 반량구에서는 4년차 가을부터 감수가 시작되었다. 2. 연차별로 토양 인산의 감소에 따른 수량감소와의 관계에 의하여 인산시비 개시 시기를 조사한 결과, 토심 10~20cm 부위에서 유효인산의 함량이 150ppm 이하로 떨어졌을 때 인산시비를 개시하는 것이 적당한 것으로 나타났다. 3. 인산 감량시비에 따른 뽕잎 중의 인산함량은 표준량 시비구 대비 0.18%까지 감소하였다. 4. 인산의 감량시비가 뽕잎의 질에 미치는 영향을 알기 위하여 3년간 토양인산 300ppm 포장의 뽕잎으로 누에를 사육하여 검정한 결과, 인산 무시비에 의해 수량이 감소하고, 엽중의 인산 함량이 최저 1.13%까지 감소하였어도, 수견량 및 견질에는 영향을 주지 않았다.

서해 근소만 조간대 퇴적물에서 여름과 겨울에 인의 존재형태 (Phosphorus Speciation and Bioavailability in Intertidal Sediments of Keunso Bay, Yellow Sea During Summer and Winter)

  • A sequential extraction technique was used to study sediment phosphorus speciation and its relative importance in the intertidal flat of Keunso Bay during summer and winter for a better understanding of the phosphorus cycle and bioavailability in intertidal sediments. Loosely sorbed P contents were the lowest among the five P-pools and showed little seasonal or spatial variation. Although Fe-bound P contents were almost constant in winter, they decreased rapidly with sediment depth in summer. The dissolution of Fe oxides, used as an oxidant for the anaerobic respiration, ascribed the rapid decrease of Fe-bound P in summer. Al-bound P contents displayed little seasonal variation, but showed a large spatial variation, with higher values in the upper intertidal flat. Comprising about 50% of total P, Ca-bound P contents were the highest among the five P-pools. Ca-bound P contents were higher in winter than summer, but did not exhibit a clear spatial variation. Organic P contents were higher in summer than winter, which was associated with higher primary production and clam biomass in summer. Organic P contents were higher in the lower intertidal flat than the upper intertidal flat. In Keunso Bay, bioavailable P contents of the intertidal flat comprising about one third of total P ranged from 2.41 to 5.09 ${\mu}molg^{-1}$ in summer and 3.82 to 5.29 ${\mu}molg^{-1}$ in winter. The bioavailability of P contents was higher in the lower intertidal flat than the upper intertidal flat, which was attributed to the large clam production in the lower intertidal flat.

고농도(高農度) 인산(燐酸) 수경액(水耕液)중에서 뽕나무의 Zn과 Cu 흡수(吸收) (Effects of High Phosphorus Supply on Zn and Cu Uptake by Mulberry(Morus alba L.))

  • 인산(燐酸)을 고농도(高濃度)로 공급하였을 때, 양분의 흡수(吸收) 특히 Zn과 Cu의 흡수를 알기 위하여 온실에서 수경재배(水耕栽培)로 시험을 수행하였다. 공급 인산 수준은 0, 0.2, 0.5, 2.0, 5.0mM의 5수준(水準)이었으며, 개량뽕(Morus alva L.)을 공시품종으로 2.5개월을 재배한 후, 식물체를 수확(收穫)하여 분석(分析)하였다. 건물중(乾物重)은 2.0mM 인산수준까지 계속 증가(增加)한 후 감소(減少)하였다. 잎의 수분함량(水分含量), total-N, P, K, Fe 등은 인산 공급수준과 비례(比例)하여 증가하였다. Total-Zn 함량은 인산수준에 따라 큰 차를 보이지 않았으나, 수용성(水溶性) Zn은 증가하는 반면 Cu는 감소하였다. 인산수준(燐酸水準)의 증가에 따라 $SO_4$와 Cl는 감소하다가 인산 2.0mM 이상에서 현저히 증가하였다. 인산 축적(蓄積) 뽕밭에서의 뽕잎 감소는 Cu의 흡수 저하와 $SO_4$와 Cl의 현저할 흡수(吸收) 증가에서 오는 것으로 추정(推定)되었다.

인 제거를 위한 패각의 활용법에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Use of Oyster Shells for Phosphorus Removal)

  • 우리나라에서 대부분의 호수는 인이 제한영양염인 것으로 나타나고 있다. 그러므로 인의 제거는 하수처리에서 중요한 공정이라고 할 수 있다. 그러나 많은 하수처리장은 재래식처리공정으로 처리하고 있으며 인의 제거율이 $10{\sim}30%$로 낮게 나타나 인의 제거공정은 필요하게 되었으며 패각은 수중의 인을 제거할 수 있는 것으로 알려지고 있어서 인의 활용이 주목된다. 회분식으로 패각을 이용하여 인의 제거율을 조사한 결과 패각의 크기가 작을수록, pH가 높을수록 제거율이 높게 나타났다. 또한 칼슘의 주입농도를 달리하여 처리한 결과 칼슘의 농도가 높을수록 처리효율이 증가하였으며 칼슘의 농도를 20mg/L로 조절하여 실험한 결과 2시간 내에 90% 이상의 제거율을 나타내었다. 재순환을을 변화시켜 실험한 결과 재순환율이 증가할수록 제거율은 증가하였으며 PH 11에서 재순환율을 300%로 조절한 결과 인의 제거율은 80%가 되었다. 중탄신이온의 영향을 평가하기 위하여 중탄산이온의 농도를 달리하여 실험한 결과 중탄산이온의 증가에 따라 인의 제거율은 감소하는 것으로 나타났으며 감소하는 비율은 지수함수로 나타났다.

호소 저니의 인 용출 제어를 위한 모래 캡핑 (Sand Capping for Controlling Phosphorus Release from Lake Sediments)

  • 본 연구에서는 호소 바닥의 저니에서 용출된 인이 수질에 악영향을 미치는 것을 제어하기 위하여 모래를 재료로 하는 캡핑을 저니 위에 포설할 때 기대할 수 있는 효과에 대하여 연구하였다. 실험실에서 제작된 칼럼을 외부 공기의 유출입이 없도록 폐쇄하고, 인의 농도가 높은 저니층에서 인의 용출로 인한 상등수의 인농도 변화와 모래로 이루어진 캡핑으로 격리 처리된 저니층에서 인의 용출로 인한 상등수의 인 농도 변화를 비교 분석하였다. 캡핑을 하지 않은 칼럼과 40 mm, 80 mm 캡핑 두께의 3가지 칼럼으로 시험을 수행하였고, DO, ORP, TP, $PO_4$-P를 측정하였다. 캡핑을 하지 않은 칼럼이 80 mm의 모래 캡핑을 한 칼럼보다 4배 이상의 TP농도 증가가 있은 반면 $PO_4$-P의 경우는 큰 차이가 나지 않았다. 본 실험조건에서 모래로 캡핑한 저니의 경우 캡핑이 되지 않은 저니 보다 인의 용출로 인한 상등수의 인의 농도를 저감할 수 있음이 확인되었다.

  • The properties of phosphorus doped ZnO thin films deposited on (001) sapphire substrates by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) were investigated depending on various deposition conditions. The phosphorus (P) doped ZnO target was composed of ZnO + x wt% Al (x=1, 3, 5). The structural, electrical and optical properties of the ZnO thin films were measured by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Hall measurements and photoluminescence (PL). As the deposition temperature optimized, the electrical properties of the phosphorus doped ZnO (ZnO:P) layer showed a electron concentration of $7.76\times10^{16}/cm^3$, a mobility of 10.225 $cm^2/Vs$, a resistivity of 7.932 $\Omega$cm. It was observed the electrical property of the film was changed by dopant activation effect as target variations and deposition conditions.

생물학적 영양염류 제거를 위한 돈사폐수의 반응 특성 (Reaction Characteristics of Piggery Wastewater for Biological Nutrient Removal)

  • This study was performed to investigate the reaction characteristics of piggery wastewater for biological nutrient removal. The reaction characteristics were discussed the fraction of organics, the behavior of nitrogen, nitrification, denitrification, and the behavior of phosphorus. The fraction of readily biodegradable soluble COD was 11-12 percent. The ammonia nitrogen was removed via stripping, nitrification, autotrophic cell synthesis, and heterotrophic cell synthesis. The removal percents by each step were 12.1%, 68.9%, 15.0%, and 4.0%, respectively. Nitrification inhibition of piggery wastewater was found to occur at an influent volumetric loading rate over 0.2 NH$_{3}$-N kg/m$^{3}$/d. Denitrification rates were the highest in the raw wastewater and the lowest in the anaerobic effluent. The denitritation of piggery wastewater came out to be possible, and the rate of organic carbon consumption decreased about 10 percent. The phosphorus removed was released in the form of ortho-p in the aerobic fixed biofilm reactor, it was caused by autooxidation. The synthesis and release of phosphorus were related to the ORP and the boundary value for the phase change was about 170mV. In the synthesis phase, the phosphorus removal rate per COD removed was 0.023mgP$_{syn}$/mgCOD$_{rem}$. The phosphorus contents of the microorganism were 4.3-6.0% on a dry weight basis.

마이크로웨이브 가열을 이용한 슬래그로부터 인의 용철로의 환원이동에 관한 열역학적 고찰 (Thermodynamic Study for P Reduction from Slag to Molten Steel by using the Microwave Heating)

  • Phosphorus exhibits considerable segregation in steelmaking slag. In order to recover phosphorus from slag to $K_3PO_4$ via molten iron, a carbothermic reaction using microwave heating was suggested recently. The carbothermic reduction of phosphorus from slag to molten iron using microwave heating was carried out at 2073K. However, at this temperature the thermodynamic properties of both slag and molten iron cannot be determined experimentally. Therefore, the computational approach of the so-called CALPHAD method is very useful to understand the transfer of phosphorus from slag to metal and to enhance this reaction. In the present investigation, a theoretical study of the reduction behavior of phosphorus in slag was carried out at much lower temperatures using the recently developed thermodynamic database in the FactSage program. The calculated results showed reasonable accordance with the experimental data; namely, the thermodynamic database could be applied successfully to higher temperature reactions. The current study found that higher temperature and high $SiO_2$ concentration are favorable for the recovery of phosphorus from slag.

  • Recently, new extraction technology for manganese nodule has been developed as alternative noble metallic resources. It is important to understand thermodynamic behaviors of phosphorus in low basic slag system from the viewpoint of the refining processing optimization. Thermodynamic behaviors of phosphorus in the $FeO-MnO-CaO-SiO_2-MgO_{satd.}$ slag system were investigated at 1723 K with various oxygen potential and slag composition of low basicity. The experimental results for dependence of phosphorus on oxygen potential and slag basicity indicated that the dissolution mechanism of phosphorus into slag of low basicity could be derived as follows; $[P]+5/4O_2+(O^{2-})=({PO_{3.5}}^{2-})$ Present experimental results implied that stability of phosphorus in slag would be depended on both of $O^{2-}$ (basicity) and content of $Ca^{2+}$ in molten slag. The thermodynamic effect of FeO, MnO and $Na_2O$ on low basicity on phosphate capacity was discussed.
