A numerical method for treating transient diffusion Involving change of phase is presented. In other methods of dealing with this class of problems, the mass flux balance at the moving phase boundary requires explicit treatment of two distinct phases. The technique, originating from the apparent heat capacity method in transient heat conduction with the phase change, avoids the difficulty by transferring the concentration discontinuity at the boundary to smoothed physical property variations near the moving front. This technique accomodates the nonlinearities which preclude use of analytical solutions. It was tested against known analytical solutions for simple cases and turned out to be quite accurate.

In-situ observations of nano-scale behavior of nanomaterials are very important to understand onthe nano-scale phenomena associated with phase change, atomic movement, electrical or optical properties, and even reactions which take place in gas or liquid phases. We have developed on the in-situ experimental technologies of nano-materials (nano-cluster, nanowire, carbon nanotube, and graphene, et al.) and their interactions (percolation of metal nanoclusters, inter-diffusion, metal contacts and phase changes in nanowire devices, formation of solid nano-pores, melting behavior of isolated nano-metal in a nano-cup, et al.) by nano-discovery membrane platform [1-4]. Between two microelectrodes on a silicon nitride membrane platform, electrical percolations of metal nano-clusters are observed with nano-structures of deposited clusters. Their in-situ monitoring can make percolation devices of different conductance, nanoclusters based memory devices, and surface plasmonic enhancement devices, et al. As basic evidence on the phase change memory, phase change behaviors of nanowire devices are observed at a nano-scale.
The programmable switches which control the delivery of electrical signals in programmable logic devices are fabricated using memory technology. Although phase change memory (PCM) technology is one of the most promising candidates for the manufacturing of the programmable switches, the threshold switching material should be added to a PCM cell for realization of the programmable switches based on PCM technology. In this work, we report the impurity-doped $Ge_2Sb_2Te_5$ (GST) chalcogenide alloy exhibiting threshold switching property. Unlike the GST thin film, the doped GST thin film prepared by the incorporation of In and P into GST is not crystallized even at the postannealing temperature higher than $200^{\circ}C$. This specific crystallization behavior in the doped GST thin film is attributed to the stabilization of the amorphous phase of GST by In and P doping.
In this paper, I introduce a novel design method of a high performance nanophotonic beam deflector providing broadband operation, large active tunability, and signal efficiency, simultaneously. By combining thermo-optically tunable vanadium dioxide nano-ridges and a metallic mirror, reconfigurable local optical phase of reflected diffraction beams can be engineered in a desired manner over broad bandwidth. The active metagrating deflectors are systematically designed for tunable deflection of reflection beams according to the thermal phase-change of vanadium dioxide nano-ridges. Moreover, by multiplexing the phase-change supercells, a robust design of actively tunable beam splitter is also verified numerically. It is expected that the proposed intuitive and simple design method would contribute to development of next-generation optical interconnects and spatial light modulators with high performances. The author also envisions that this study would be fruitful for modern holographic displays and three-dimensional depth sensing technologies.

A novel torque sharing function (TSF) is presented. To improve efficiency and to reduce torque ripple in commutation region, only a phase torque under commutation is regulated to produce a uniform torque. And the torque developed by the other phase remains with the previous state under a current limit of the motor and drive. If the minimum change of a phase torque reference can not satisfy the total reference torque, two-phase changing mode is used. Since a phase torque is constant and the other phase torque is changed at each rotor position, total torque error can be reduced within a phase torque error limit. And the total torque error is dependent on the change of phase torque. To consider non-linear torque characteristics and to suppress a tail current at the end of commutation region, the incoming phase current is changed to torque increasing direction, but the outgoing phase current is changed to torque decreasing direction. So, the torque sharing of the outgoing phase and incoming phase can be smoothly changed with a minimum current cross over. The proposed control scheme is verified by some computer simulations and experimental results.

This study is focused on the experimental analysis of the noise induced by phase change of refrigerant at the entrance of capillary tube. The refrigerant is usually two-phase condition when it flowed into the capillary tube. At the entrance of capillary tube, the phase condition of refrigerant is formed by sub-cool control. If it has sufficient sub-cool temperature, all of the vapor refrigerants turned to liquid, which means there is only liquid. Otherwise, the gas is coexisted. Based on this theory, we experiment on each case by changing sub-cool temperature using refrigerant-supplying equipment. The noise level is measured for each case and compared.

Korean public owners who order public multi-family housing construction projects have yet to gain access to a model for predicting construction cost. For this reason, their construction cost prediction is mainly dependent upon historic data and experience. In this paper, a cost-prediction model based on Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) in the design phase of public multi-family housing construction projects was developed. The developed model can determine the total construction cost by estimating the different Building, Civil, Mechanical, Electronic and Telecommunication, and Landscaping work costs. Model validation showed an accuracy of 97.56%, confirming the model's excellent viability. The developed model can thus be used to predict the construction cost to be shouldered by public owners before the design is completed. Moreover, any change orders during the design phase can be immediately applied to the model, and various construction costs by design alternative can be verified using this model. Therefore, it is expected that public owners can exercise effective design management by using the developed cost prediction model. The use of such an effective cost prediction model can enable the owners to accurately determine in advance the construction cost and prevent increase or decrease in cost arising from the design changes in the design phase, such as change order. The model can also prevent the untoward increase in the duration of the design phase as it can effectively control unnecessary change orders.
Reports on the comparison of clinical effect between non-surgical and surgical therapy, and the change of the clinical parameters during maintenance phase have been rarely presented in Korea. This study was to observe the clinical changes during maintenance phase of 6 months in patients with chronic periodontitis treated by non-surgical or surgical therapy in Department of Periodontics, Chonnam National University Hospital. Among the systemically healthy and non-smoking patients with moderate to severe chronic periodontitis, twenty eight patients (mean age: 47.5 years) treated by non-surgical therapy (scaling and root planning) and nineteen patients (mean age: 47.3 years) treated by surgical therapy (flap surgery) were included in this study. The periodontal supportive therapy including recall check and oral hygiene reinforcement was started as maintenance phase since 1 month of healing after treatment. Probing depth, gingival recession. clinical attachment level and tooth mobility were recorded at initial, baseline and 1, 2, 3 and 6 month of maintenance phase. The clinical parameters were compared between the non-surgical and surgical therapies using Student t-test and repeated measure ANOVA by initial probing depth and surfaces. Surgical therapy resulted in greater change in clinical parameters than non-surgical therapy. During the maintenance phase of 6 months, the clinical effects after treatment had been changed in different pattern according to initial probing depth and tooth surface. During maintenance phase, probing depth increased more and gingival recession increased less after surgical therapy, compared to non-surgical therapy. The sites of initial probing depth less than 3 mm lost more clinical attachment level, and the sites of initial probing depth more than 7 mm gained clinical attachment level during maintenance phase after non-surgical therapy, compared to surgical therapy. Non-surgical therapy resulted in greater reduction of tooth mobility than surgical therapy during maintenance phase. These results indicate that the clinical effects of non-surgical or surgical therapy may be different and may change during the maintenance phase.

The purpose of this paper is to analyze two-phase flows of the hydrogen recirculation system. Two-phase flow modeling is one of the great challenges in the classical sciences. As with most problems in engineering, the interest in two-phase flow is due to its extreme importance in various industrial applications. In hydrogen recirculation systems of fuel cell, the changes in pressure and temperature affect the phase change of mixture. Therefore, two-phase flow analysis of the hydrogen recirculation system is very important. Two-phase computation fluid dynamics (CFD) calculations, using a commercial CFD package FLUENT 6.2, were employed to calculate the gas-liquid flow. A two-phase flow calculation was conducted to solve continuity, momentum, energy equation for each phase. Then, the mass transfer between water vapor and liquid water was calculated. Through an experiment to measure production of liquid water with change of pressure, the analysis model was verified. The predictions of rate of condensed liquid water with change of pressure were within an average error of about 5%. A comparison of experimental and computed data was found to be in good agreement. The variations of performance, properties, mass fraction and two-phase flow characteristic of mixture with resepct to the fuel cell power were investigated.
