  • This paper presented design for a dipole antenna operated at 900 MHz band RFID tag, and antenna performance varied by the sticked material was experimentally evaluated. When dipole antenna was sticked by the material having a difffrent electric characteristic such as dielectric material, fero-magnetic material and conductor, variations of antenna return loss and radiation pattern according to the sticked material kinds, size, and height between antenna and the sticked plate were experimentally observed and evaluated. When antenna was sticked by dielectric surface, the measured return loss and radiation pattern by affection of different dielectric permittivity ratio showed resonant frequency shift of about 40 MHz and relative attenuation of 1 dB to 3 dB. Even though frequency shift by size variation of the sticked plate was observed, the measured radiation pattern of dipole antenna located on the sticked plate was similar with one without backside plate. In the case of conductor or fero-magnetic material as the sticked ground plate, because of frequency shift and phase difference by distance between dipole antenna and the sticked ground plate, amplitude decrease of radiation pattern at 910 MHz was observed about 5 dB above.

  • In this paper, a gas sensor using a modified $90^{\circ}$ hybrid coupler structure with conducting polymer which operates at 2.4 GHz is represented. Conducting polymers are used to the gas sensing material in proposed sensors. The conducting polymer varies its electrical property, such as work function and conductivity corresponding to the certain gas. To verify this variation of electrical property of conducting polymer at microwave frequencies, the conducting polymer is incorporated with the $90^{\circ}$ hybrid coupler structure, and this proposed sensor operates as reflection type variable attenuator and variable phase shifter. The conducting polymer is employed as impedence-variable transmission lines that cause a impedance mismatching between the general transmission line and conducting polymer. The experiment was conducted with 100 ppm ethanol gas at temperature of $28^{\circ}C$ and relative humidity of 85 %. As a result, the amplitude deviation of $S_{21}$ is 0.13 dB and the frequency satisfying ${\angle}S_{21}=360^{\circ}$ is shifted about 2.875 MHz.

  • To improve permeation performance of gas separation membrane, polysulfone hollow fiber membrane was prepared by wet-dry phase inversion method using Triton X-100 as non-ionic additive. And variation of gas permeation behavior by additive was investigated. Various spinning conditions such as air gap, concentration of polymer, dope tank temperature were controlled and these effects were studied. The morphology and gas permeation property of hollow fiber membranes were investigated using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and bubble flow meter respectively. We confirmed that the membranes added with Triton X-100 had a smooth external skin at various air gap length conditions. The macrovoids of these hollow fiber membranes were more developed with increase of air-gap from 4 to 90 cm and that induced higher permeance. The permeance of polysulfone membranes has the higher value at comparatively lower concentration polymer (30 wt% polysulfone) and lower concentration of additive (15 wt% Triton X-100). When temperature in dope tank was controlled, the membranes prepared at $100^{\circ}C$ showed low permeance because of volatilization of additive and solvent.

  • Fenpyroximate is acaricide of pyrazole group. This acaricide have already been permitted for herb cultivation. This experiment was conducted to establish a determination method for fenpyroximate residue in herbal medicines using HPLC-PDA and HPLC-MS/MS. Fenpyroximate residue was extracted with acetone from samples of herbal which Liquorice Root (Glycyrrhiza uralensis) and Safflower Seed (Carthamus tinctorius Linne). The extract was diluted with saturated saline water and dichloromethane liquid-liquid partition (extraction) was followed to recover fenpyroximate from the aqueous phase. Amino propyl ($NH_2$) and florisil column chromatography was additionally employed for final clean up of the extract. The fenpyroximate was quantitated by HPLC-PDA and HPLC-MS/MS. The herbals were fortified with fenpyroximate at 2 or 3 levels per crop. Mean recovery ratio were ranged from 72.0 to 106.4%. The coefficients of variation were ranged from 0.2 to 4.4. Therefore, this analytical method was reproducible and sensitive enough to determine the residue of fenpyroximate in herbal medicines.

  • The objective of the present study was to investigate the uptake process of 4-Phenylazobenzoxycarbonyl-Pro-Leu-Gly-Pro-D-Arg (Pz-peptide), a hydrophilic and collagenase-labile pentapeptide, by isolated hepatocytes. For comparison, the uptake of Pz-peptide by Caco-2 cells and colonic cells, two known paracellular routes of Pz-peptide, was also evaluated. A simple and sensitive reversed-phase HPLC assay method using UV detection has been developed. The coefficient of variation for all the criteria of validation were less than 15%. The method was, therefore, considered to be sutable for measuring the concentration of Pz-peptide in the biological cells. Pz-peptide was extensively uptaked into hepatocytes. The initial velocity of Pz-peptide uptake assessed from the initial slope of the curve was plotted as Eadie-Hofstee plots. The maximum velocity ($V_{max}$) and the Michaelis constant ($K_m$) were 0.190$\pm$0.020 $nmol/min/10^6$ cells and 12.1$\pm$3.23 $\mu$M, respectively. The permeability-surface area product ($PS{influx}$) was calculated to be 0.0157 ml/min/10^6$ cells. $V_{max}$ and $K_m$ values for Caco-2 cells were calculated to be 6.22$\pm$0.930 pmol/min/10^6$ cells and 82.8$\pm$8.37 $\mu$M, respectively, being comparable with those of colonocytes (6.04$\pm$1.03 pmol/min/10^6$ cells and 87.8$\pm$13.2 $\mu$M, respectively). $PS_{influx}$ values for Caco-2 cells and colonocytes were calculated to be 0.0751 $\mu$l/min/10^6$ cells and 0.0688 $\mu$l/min/10^6$ cells, respectively. The more pronounced uptake of Pz-peptide by hepatocytes, when compared with Caco-2 cells and colonocytes, is probably due to its specific transporter. In conclusion, Pz-peptide, a paracellularly transported pentapeptide in the intestine and ocular epithelia, was uptaked into hepatocytes extensively. Although Pz-peptide is able to be uptaked into the Caco-2 cells and colonocytes, it is less pronounced when compared with hepatocytes. $PS_{influx}$ values of Caco-2 cells and colonocytes for unbound Pz-peptide under linear conditions were less than 0.4% when compared with that of hepatocytes.

  • In this paper, we showed the applicability of power symmetric MSSI(Mid-Span Spectral Inversion) to the long-haul WDM system with the channel interference due to FWM(Four Wave Mixing). And we showed the degree of performance improvement. We used 1 dB EOP(Eye-Opening Penalty) criterion so as to evaluate the degree of compensation dependent on the variation of chirp parameter of optical pulse for the various input power in high speed tansmission system. And we evaluated the maximum input power of channel be able to be the signal to crosstalk noise (SNR) above 20 dB in the transmission link with the channel interference due to FWM. Consequently the proposed MSSI compensation method is capable to transmitting the total 68 WDM channels simultaneously with a 0.4 nm channel spacing and 5.3 dBm maximum input power in a 10 Gbps transmission link. Therefore the proposed power symmetric MSSI compensation method may be very useful for the implementation of long-haul wideband WDM transmission systems with relatively high power and improved performance.

  • Impression ragistration is an improtant and difficult phase of prosthodontic treatment procedures and a tray of appropriate size and shape is essential to obtain the accurate impression. Particularly, in edentulous patients, the size and forms of their residual alveolar ridges are different from one another. Therefore, in this study, various measurements were taken on the edentulous models. And the measurements were analyzed and compared with one another. The results were as follows ; 1. The mean of denture bearing area was $32.86cm^2$ in the upper jaws, $24.20cm^2$ in the lower jaws and the variation of denture bearing area was greater in the upper than in the lower jaws and in males than in females. 2. The mean of A-P(anteroposterior) ridge length was 48.72mm in the upper jaws, 53.05mm in the lower jaws and that of males was longer than that of females. 3. The mean of most posterior ridge width was 47.23mm in the upper jaws, 58.03mm in the lower jaws and the difference of that between males and females was least in both jaws. 4. In the upper jaws, the mean of ridge width was 29.66mm on anterior 1/4, 42.79mm on middle, 48.95mm on posterior 1/4 line and the mean of palatal height was 4.56mm on anterior 1/4, 10.01mm on middle, 10.84mm on posterior 1/4 line. 5. • This study presented simple and efficient fabrication of chemical sensors for the detection of acidic gas using 1,3-bisdicyanovinylindane as an indicator because it can be promising materials having property of the rapid color change according to the variation of pH. The dissociation of proton and dye in acidic condition as changing of ion pairs give rise to dramatically change the absorbance intensity of 1,3-bisdicyanovinylindane, which can be easily applied to the development of chemical sensors. In addition, indicator dyes having negatively charge in aqueous phase can be easily fabricated using layer-by-layer (LBL) methods by way of electrostatic interaction. For the proof of concept, we demonstrated the abrupt presentation of skeleton symbol on the chemical sensor, which could be resulted from the reaction of 1,3-bisdicyanovinylindane as background color with acidic gas. Thus, the rapid appearance of symbol will induce user's caution under the emergency condition. The presented chemical gas sensor using 1,3-bisdicyanovinylindane have strong advantages. First, the fabrication process of gas sensor was very simple and low-cost. Secondly, sensors reacted by acidic gas could be reused for several times. Finally, the chemical gas sensor would be environmentally friend, which can be a basic tool for the realization of eco-organic sensor device.

  • In numbers of kinds of heat exchanger, the shell-tube heat exchanger is the most commonly used type of heat exchanger in the industry field. In order to improve the thermal performance of the heat exchanger, this study was analyzed heat transfer characteristics according to arrangement of baffle and direction of baffle and bump phase of baffle about shell-tube heat exchanger using appropriate SST (Shear Stress Transport) turbulence model for flow separation and boundary layer analysis. As the boundary condition for CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis, the inlet temperature of shell side was constantly 344 K and the variation of the water flow rate was 6, 12, 18 and 24 l/min. As the result of analysis, zigzag baffle arrangement enhances heat transfer rate and pressure drop. Furthermore, in the direction of the baffle, heat transfer rate is more improved with vertical type and angle $45^{\circ}$ type than existing type, and pressure drop was little difference. Also, the bump shape of baffle surface contributes to heat transfer rate and pressure drop improvement due to the increased heat transfer area. Through analysis results, we knew that the increase of the heat transfer was influenced by flow separation, fluid residual time, contact area with the tube, flow rate, swirl and so on.

  • Although conventional seismic data processing is based on the assumption that the media are isotropic, the subsurface is often anisotropy in shale formation or carbonate with cracks and fractures. This paper presents the anisotropic parameter and seismic modeling in transversely isotropic media with a vertical symmetry axis using seismic physical modeling. The experiment was successfully carried out with VTI media, laminated bakelite material, using contact transducer of p and s-wave transmission. The variation of velocities with angle of incidence was clearly shown in anisotropic material. Comparing these velocities with the calculated phase velocities, the (P) and (S)-wave velocity observed in anisotropic material was a very good agreement with the calculated values. Anisotropic parameter ${\varepsilon}$, ${\delta}$, ${\gamma}$ was estimated by using Lame's constant calculated from the observed velocity. For the purpose of testing (S)-wave polarization, a birefringence experiment was carried out. The higher velocity was associated with the polarization parallel to the fracture, and the lower velocity was associated with the polarization perpendicular to the fracture.
