  • Block copolymer (BCP) self-assembly in a film geometry has recently been the focus of increased research interest due to their potential use as templates and scaffolds for the fabrication of nanostructured materials. The phase behavior in a thin film geometry that confines polymer chains to the interfaces will be influenced by the interfacial interactions at substrate/polymer and polymer/air and the commensurability between the equilibrium period (L0) of the BCP and the total film thickness. We investigated the phase transitions for the films of block copolymers (BCPs) on the modified surface, like the order-to-disorder transition (ODT) by in-situ grazing incidence small angle x-ray scattering (GISAXS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The selective interactions on the surface by a PS-grafted substrate provide the preferential interactions with the PS component of the block, while a random copolymer (PS-r-PMMA) grafted substrate do the balanced interfacial interactions on the surface. The thickness dependence of order-to-disorder behavior for BCP films will be discussed in terms of the surface interactions.

  • Polycrystalline ZrH2 in tetragonal crystal system has been compressed in a modified Bassett-type diamond anvil cell up to 36.0 GPa at room temperature. X-ray diffraction data did not indicate any phase transitions at the present pressure range. The pressure dependence of the a-axis, c-axis, c/a and molar volume of ZrH2 was determined at pressures up to 36.0 GPa. Assuming the pressure derivative of the bulk modulus (K0') to be 4.11 from an ultrasonic value on Zr, bulk modulus (K0) was determined to be 160Gpa by fitting the pressure-volume data to the Birch-Murnaghan equation of state. Same sample was heated at $500^{\circ}C$ at the pressure of 9.8 GPa in a modified Sung-type diamond anvil cell. Unloaded and quenched sample revealed that the original tetragonal structure transforms into a hexagonal structured phase with a zero-pressure molar volume change of ~115.5%.

  • Complex organic molecules (COMs) are commonly detected in star forming regions and considered important species since they are seeds of prebiotic molecules. Although COMs form in ice mantles on dust grains, they are preferentially detected in the gas phase. The origin of the gaseous COMs highly depends on the circumstance of each star forming region. Therefore, the distribution of COMs emission reflects the physical and chemical conditions of the region. We present the newly detected COMs, especially methanol emission lines toward two massive star forming regions, G19.61-0.23 and G75.78+0.34 in the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array Band 3 observations during the Cycle 2 phase. Multiple transitions of methanol are detected in both regions but show different emission morphology. The origin of the desorption (e.g. shocks or high energy photons) is discussed.

  • We report the phase transition temperatures of the $PbZrO_3$ perovskite nanotubes made by sol-gel template synthesis. The lead zirconate($PbZrO{_3}$) nanotubes were prepared with a chelate sol-gel of zirconium tetrabutoxide($Zr(OBu){_4}$) and leadacetate($Pb(OAc){_2}-3H_2O$). $Whatman^(r)$ anodisc membranes, with a 200nm pore size, served as the template. After removing the template in the 6M-NaOH solution, the $PbZrO{_3}$ nanotubes so far have shown an anomalous transition temperature, $123.6^{\circ}C$ as measured by DSC with a small particle size, 15.4nm determined by X-ray analysis with the aid of Scherrer's equation.

  • In this paper, electro-optic characteristics of PLZT 7.6/70/30 composition in MPB regions, which antiferroelectric and ferroelectric phases coexist together, were studied. As sintering times are increased, Curie temperatures ore linearly decreased. And the antiferroelectric phase becomes more stronger when Curie temperatures are decreased. The crystal structure investigated by lie of X-ray analysis is proved to cubic in the thermally depoled specimen and rhombohedral in the poled specimen. Accordingly, the applicability of 7.6/70/30 specimen as image storage and display device is expected by the method for applying field induced reversible transitions between antiferroelectric(AFE) and ferroelectric(FE) phase.

  • It is necessary to develope a high frequency diode laser sensor system based on the absorption spectroscopy for the measurement of temperature of the spray flame. DFB diode laser operating near $2.0{\mu}m$ was used to scan over selected $H_2O$ transitions near $1.9{\mu}m\;and\;2.2{\mu}m$, respectively. The measurement sensitivity at wide range of sweep frequency was evaluated using multi-pass cell containing $CO_2$ gas. This diode laser absorption sensor with high temporal resolution up to 10kHz was applied to measure the gas temperature in the spray flame region of liquid-gas 2-phase counter flow flame. The successful demonstration of time series temperature measurement in the spray flame gives us motivation of trying to establish non-intrusive temperature measurement method in the practical spray flame.

  • We have carried out a $^{31}P$ nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) study on the electrooptic material $KTiOPO_{4}(KTP)$. From the spin -lattice relaxation time ($T_{1}$) measurements at 17.9 MHz in the temperature range 77-390 K, two phase transitions associated with the change of the dominant charge carriers were observed and the activation energies were obtained in each phase.

  • Undoped and Cr-doped samples of electrooptic material KTiOPO$_4$ were studied by $^{31}$P nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Spin-lattice relaxation time ($T_1$) measurements manifested phase transition behaviors that are attributed to changes in the dominant charge carriers in different temperature ranges.

  • The structural, magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of $CoMn_{1-x}Cr_xGe$ (x=0.05-0.125) have been investigated by using electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction, calorimetric and magnetic measurements. In this study, our aim is to justify the magnetocaloric effect by tuning the structural and magnetic transition temperature with Cr doping on CoMnGe pure system. The substitution of Cr for Mn leads to a decrease of both structural and magnetic transition temperatures. However, structural and magnetic transition temperatures do not close to each other. From magnetization measurement, we calculate that isothermal entropy change associated with magnetic transition can be as high as 3.82 J $kg^{-1}K^{-1}$ at 302 K in a field of 7 T. Meanwhile, structural phase transition contribution to isothermal entropy change is calculated as 5.85 J $kg^{-1}K^{-1}$ at 322 K for 7 T.

  • Suspension polymerizations of styrene were conducted in the aqueous phase with tricalcium phosphate (TCP) as a stabilizer and $\alpha$, $\alpha$'-azobis(isobutyronitrile) (AIBN) as an initiator. Various amounts of initiator and stabilizer were selected and the reaction was carried out at a selected temperature between 60 to 80 $\^{C}$. It was found that the combination of 5 wt% stabilizer and 2.427$\times$10$\^$-3/ mol/L of costabilizer is the minimum amount for suspension polymerization reaction to produce particles in the aqueous phase. Particles were found to be polydisperse in diameter, regardless of reaction conditions. Class transitions were observed to be around 95$\^{C}$, nearly independent of reaction temperature and initiator. Homogenizer was found to be essential in forming particles in the proximity of tens of micrometers in diameter in suspension polymerization with TCP as stabilizer.
