Characteristics Analysis of Power Capacitor with Unbalanced Voltage Operation (불평형 전압 동작시 전력 커패시터 특성 분석)

  • In the three phase four wire system, voltage unbalance caused by the unbalanced load operation, gives rise to current unbalance and de-rates by the increase of machine's loss and eventually enlarges power capacity and besides has a bad effect on power quality. Power capacitor has been used for the power factor correction of inductive load and the voltage stability of power system. And it uses instead of power side for magnetic excitation of induction motor. If voltage unbalance keeps up, it affects on voltage stress at the power capacitor and finally can be caused breakdown. In this paper, we analysed that voltage and current of power capacitor increases by the voltage unbalance factor and its stress is growing more and more.

A Zero Sequence Voltage Injection Method for Cascaded H-bridge D-STATCOM

  • Load variations on a distribution line result in voltage fluctuations at the point of common coupling (PCC). In order to keep the magnitude of the PCC voltage constant at its rated value and obtain zero voltage regulation (ZVR), a D-STATCOM is installed for voltage correction. Moreover, the ZVR mode of a D-STATCOM can also be used to balance the source current during unbalanced loading. For medium voltage and high power applications, a D-STATCOM is realized by the cascaded H-bridge topology. In the ZVR mode, the D-STATCOM may draw unbalanced current and in this process is required to handle different phase powers leading to deviations in the cluster voltages. Zero sequence voltage needs to be injected for ZVR mode, which creates circulating power among the phases of the D-STATCOM. The computed zero sequence voltage and the individual DC capacitor balancing controller help the DC cluster voltage follow the reference voltage. The effectiveness of the control scheme is verified by modeling the system in MATLAB/SIMULINK. The obtained simulations are further validated by the experimental results using a dSPACE DS1106 and five-level D-STATCOM experimental set up.

  • We developed an augmented new reality tool for vision-based hand gesture recognition in a camera-projector system. Our recognition method uses modified Fourier descriptors for the classification of static hand gestures. Hand segmentation is based on a background subtraction method, which is improved to handle background changes. Most of the recognition methods are trained and tested by the same service-person, and training phase occurs only preceding the interaction. However, there are numerous situations when several untrained users would like to use gestures for the interaction. In our new practical approach the correction of faulty detected gestures is done during the recognition itself. Our main result is the quick on-line adaptation to the gestures of a new user to achieve user-independent gesture recognition.

  • 국제기상기구의 Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS)의 관점에서 살펴보면 국내의 기상 기후 정보는 기상청을 중심으로 관측 자료와 중장기 예측 및 기후변화 시나리오 정보 등의 다양한 시간규모로 생산되고 있다. 하지만 사용자가 직접적으로 다양한 기후정보를 상세화하여 활용하기 위해서는 기후정보의 구축 및 전처리를 수행해야하는 어려움이 있다. 따라서 APEC Climate Center (APCC)에서 다학제 융합 기반 기후정보 서비스를 중심으로 사용자 인터페이스 플랫폼 (User Interface Platform: UIP)의 기술적 플랫폼으로 APCC Integrated Modeling Solution (AIMS)를 개발하였다. AIMS는 사용자의 관점으로 상세화를 수행할 수 있고, 다양한 응용 분야에 적용하기 쉽게 데이터를 생성하여 연구에 도움을 주고 있다. 본 연구는 AIMS에서 제공하고 있는 기존의 국가별로 제공하는 제 5차 결합 기후모델 비교사업 (The $5^{th}$ phase of the coupled model intercomparision project, CMIP5)에서 해석한 전구기후모델 (General Circulation Model, GCM)의 통계적 상세화 방법인 Simple Quantile Mapping (SQM)과 Spatial Disaggregation Quantile Delta Mapping (SDQDM)를 포함하여 AIMS에 새롭게 추가 된 통계적 상세화 방법인 Bias Correction and Stochastic Analog (BCSA) 방법을 소개하고자 한다. 또한 60개의 종관기상관측 (Automated Surface Observing System, ASOS)자료를 중심으로 생성한 세 가지 통계적 상세화방법의 과거재현성과 RCP4.5, RCP8.5 시나리오를 활용한 미래 불확실성 평가 결과를 이용하여 연구자들의 맞춤형 자료를 생산하고 평가하는데 도움을 줌으로써 다양한 기후자료의 효과적인 활용이 가능할 것으로 기대된다.

Improvement of LCC-HVDC Input-Output Characteristics using a VSC-MMC Structure

  • High voltage direct current(HVDC) systems has been an alternative method of a power transmission to replace high voltage alternate current(HVAC), which is a traditional AC transmission method. Due to technical limitations, Line commutate converter HVDC(LCC-HVDC) was mainly used. However, result from many structural problems of LCC-HVDC, the voltage source converter HVDC(VSC-HVDC) are studied and applied recently. In this paper, after analyzing the reactive power and output voltage ripple, which are the main problems of LCC-HVDC, the characteristics of each HVDC are summarized. Based on this result, a new LCC-HVDC structure is proposed by combining LCC-HVDC with the MMC structure, which is a representative VSC-HVDC topology. The proposed structure generates lower reactive power than the conventional method, and greatly reduces the 12th harmonic, a major component of output voltage ripple. In addition, it can be easily applied to the already installed LCC-HVDC. When the proposed method is applied, the control of the reactive power compensator becomes unnecessary, and there is an advantage that the cut-off frequency of the output DC filter can be designed smaller. The validity of the proposed LCC-HVDC is verified through simulation and experiments.

Spectral Reconstruction for High Spectral Resolution in a Static Modulated Fourier-transform Spectrometer

  • We introduce a spectral reconstruction method to enhance the spectral resolution in a static modulated Fourier-transform spectrometer. The optical-path difference and the interferogram in the focal plane, as well as the relationship of the interferogram and the spectrum, are discussed. Additionally, for better spectral reconstruction, applications of phase-error correction and apodization are considered. As a result, the transfer function of the spectrometer is calculated, and then the spectrum is reconstructed based on the relationship between the transfer function and the interferogram. The spectrometer comprises a modified Sagnac interferometer. The spectral reconstruction is conducted with a source with central wave number of 6,451 cm-1 and spectral width of 337 cm-1. In a conventional Fourier-transform method the best spectral resolution is 27 cm-1, but by means of the spectral reconstruction method the spectral resolution improved to 8.7 cm-1, without changing the interferometric structure. Compared to a conventional Fourier-transform method, the spectral width in the reconstructed spectrum is narrower by 20 cm-1, and closer to the reference spectrum. The proposed method allows high performance for static modulated Fourier-transform spectrometers.

Improvement of hysteretic constitutive model for reinforcements considering buckling

  • The buckling of longitudinal reinforcements under seismic loading accelerates the degradation of the bearing capacity of reinforced concrete columns. The traditional hysteretic constitutive model of reinforcement, which does not consider buckling, usually overestimates the seismic performance of pier columns. Subsequent researchers have also proposed many models including the buckling effects. However, the accuracy of these hysteretic constitutive models proposed for simulating the buckling behavior is inadequate. In this study, based on their works, the influence of historical events on buckling is considered, the path of the re-tensioning phase is corrected by adjusting the boundary lines, and the positions of the onset buckling point and compressive buckling path during each buckling deformation are corrected by introducing correction parameters and a boundary line. A modified hysteretic constitutive model is obtained, that can more accurately reflect the buckling behavior of reinforcements. Finally, a series of hysteresis tests of reinforcements with different slenderness ratios were then conducted. The experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed modified model. Indicating that the modified model can more accurately simulate the equivalent stress-strain relationship of the buckling reinforcement segment.

Construction of Network RTK Testbed Using Reference Stations of NGII (국토지리정보원 기준국 사용 Network RTK 테스트베드 구축)

  • In this paper, a test bed for real-time network Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) research was constructed using reference stations of the NGII. A group of candidate station networks was derived, including three stations in Seoul. The group consisted of four stations with a distance of less than 100 km between them. Among several candidates, a network composed of stations with short distances between them and demonstrating good data quality for all reference stations was selected as the test bed. After collecting real-time data in Radio Technical Committee for Maritime services (RTCM) format from the selected stations and conducting a noise analysis on measurements, mm-level carrier phase measurement noise was confirmed. Afterwards, the user set the reference station inside the test bed and analyzed the network RTK positioning performance of the MAC method using the GPS L1 frequency as post-processing. From the result of the analysis it was confirmed that the residual error for all users was within 10 cm after applying the correction. Additionally, after determining integer ambiguities through Least-squares AMBiguity Decorrelation Adjustment (LAMBDA), it was confirmed that the fix rate was 100%, and all ambiguities were resolved as true values.

Improvement of Residual Delay Compensation Algorithm of KJJVC (한일상관기의 잔차 지연 보정 알고리즘의 개선)

  • In this paper, the residual delay compensation algorithm is proposed for FX-type KJJVC. In case of initial version as that design algorithm of KJJVC, the integer calculation and the cos/sin table for the phase compensation coefficient were introduced in order to speed up of calculation. The mismatch between data timing and residual delay phase and also between bit-jump and residual delay phase were found and fixed. In final design of KJJVC residual delay compensation algorithm, the initialization problem on the rotation memory of residual delay compensation was found when the residual delay compensated value was applied to FFT-segment, and this problem is also fixed by modifying the FPGA code. Using the proposed residual delay compensation algorithm, the band shape of cross power spectrum becomes flat, which means there is no significant loss over the whole bandwidth. To verify the effectiveness of proposed residual delay compensation algorithm, we conducted the correlation experiments for real observation data using the simulator and KJJVC. We confirmed that the designed residual delay compensation algorithm is well applied in KJJVC, and the signal to noise ratio increases by about 8%.

A Study on the Thermodynamic Characteristics of Dimer Liquid Crystal(CBA-10) by Phase Transition (이량체액정(CBA-10)의 상전이에 따른 열역학적 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The PVT and $^2H$-NMR characteristic of main-chain dimer liquid crystals having structures such as ${\alpha}$, ${\omega}$-bis[4,4'-cyanobiphenyl) oxy] alkane(CBA-10) were studied. In this work, V-T curves obtained from isobaris measurements on various pressures, volume changes were observed at the nematic-isotropic and nematic-crystal phase transition. The volume changes at the transition exhibit slight odd-even effect with respect to the number of methylene unit n. The values of the$({\Delta}S_{tr})_V$ obtained at the NI transition for CBA-10 was $12.6J/mol{\cdot}K$. The values of $({\Delta}S_{CN})_V$ for the CN transition was estimated on the basis of DSC data : $65.3J/mol{\cdot}K$. For both transition, it was found that the correction about the volume change is significant, ranging from 40 to 60% of the total transition entropy observed under constant pressure. The RIS analysis of the spectra was performed so as to elucidate the conformational characteristics of the spacer in the nematic phase. The conformational entropy changes at both CN and NI interphases were estimated on the basis of the nematic conformations taken from the conformation map as well as those derived from the simulation. The estimated conformational entropy change values were then compared with the corresponding constant-volume entropies obtained from PVT measurements. The correspondence between both entropy values was found to be quite good in consideration of the uncertainties involved in both experiment and calculations.
