  • Jominy hardenability curves of low alloy steel containing less than 5 wt.% of alloying elements in total were calculated by applying Scheil's rule of additivity to pre-calculated isothermal transformation curve. Isothermal transformation curve for each phase in steel was approximated as a simple mathematical equation by using Kirkaldy's approach and all coefficients in the equation were estimated from experimental temperature-time-transformation (TTT) and/or continuous cooling transformation (CCT) data in the literature. Then jominy test with simple boundary conditions was performed in computer by applying the finite difference scheme. The resultant cooling curves at each location along a longitudinal direction of Jominy bar were applied to calculate phase fractions as well as mechanical properties such as micro Vickers hardness. The simulated results were compared with experimental CCT data and Jominy curves in the literature.

  • We conduct numerical simulations of the interaction of a deformable structure with two-phase compressible flow. The finite volume method (FVM) is used to simulate fluid phenomena including a shock wave, a gas bubble, and the deformation of free surface. The deformation of a floating structure is computed with the finite element method (FEM). The compressible two-phase volume of fluid (VOF) method is used for the generation and development of a cavitation bubble, and the immersed boundary method (IBM) is used to impose the effect of the structure on the fluid domain. The result of the simulation shows the generation of a shock wave, and the expansion of the bubble. Also, the deformation of the structure due to the hydrodynamic loading by the explosion is identified.

  • The refinement of microstructure and phase transformation near the interface of pure copper/carbon steel dissimilar metals joints with various friction welding parameters have been studied in this paper. The microstructure of copper and carbon steel joints were changed to be a finer grain compared to those of the base metals due to the frictional heat and plastic deformation. The microstructure of copper side experienced wide range of deformed region from the weld interface and divided into very fine equaxied grains and elongated grains. Especially, the microstructures near the interface on carbon steel were transformed from ferrite and pearlite dual structure to fine ferrite, grain boundary pearlite and martensite due to the welding thermal cycle and rapid cooling rate after welding. These microstructures were varied with each friction welding parameters. The recrystallization on copper side is reason for softening in copper side and martensite transformation could explain the remarkable hardening region in carbon steel side.

  • The stability of the two-phase flow in a heated channel is of great importance in the design and operation of the boilers and light water nuclear reactors, because it can cause flow oscillations and lead to a violation of thermal limits with resultant overheating of the channels and cladding. This paper presents a systematic evaluation to the variation effects of the basic four (4) dimensionless parameters in a homogeneous equilibrium model. The flow stability is examined on the ground of static characteristic curves. The complicated transfer function of flow dynamics which gives consideration to the transport lag of density wave is derived, and the transient flow stability is analysed by applying the Nyquist stability criterion in control engineering. The analysis results summed up as follows 1. The coolant flow becomes stable in large friction number and specific flow, while it is unstabale in small friction number and flow. 2. Large phase-change number and Froude number destabilize the two-phase flow, but small numbers stabilize it. The effect to variation of phase-change number is more dominant compared with Froude number. 3. The dynamic analysis is required to hold the sufficient safety of heated channels since only static results does not keep it. The special attention could be payed in the design and operation of heat engines, because the unstaable region exists within the stable boundary at small and middle phase-change number and Froude number.

  • In this paper, the pizoelectric and dielectric properties of 0.95Pb(ZrxTil-x)O$_3$- 0.05Pb(Mn$\_$0.2/Fe$\_$0.4/W$\_$0.4/)O$_3$piezoelectric ceramics is investigated as a function of Zr/Ti mole ratio. Also, MPB(Morphotropic Phase Boundary) and optimal sintering temperature is studied using XRD and SEM. As a results, when Zr/Ti mole ratio is 52/48, electromechanical coupling factor, k$\_$p/, is 58[%], permittivity, $\varepsilon$$\^$T/$\_$33//$\varepsilon$0, is 1360 and piezoelectric strain constant, d$\_$33/ is 265[pC/N] and the piezoelectric and dielectric properties become maximum. Phase transition temperature of its ternary piezoelectric system is about 350[$^{\circ}C$]. From the XRD analysis, when Zr/Ti mole ratio is 52/48, tetragonal phase transits to rhombohedral phase. Also, From measuring results of the sintering density, when sintering temperature is 1050[$^{\circ}C$], sintering density become maximum and is about 7930[kg/㎥], and average grain size is about 2-3[$\mu\textrm{m}$].

  • In this study, the phase transition behaviors of lead-free (Na1/2Bi1/2TiO3)(1-x)-(BaTiO3)x (NBT-BT) are investigated by using Brillouin spectroscopy. The elastic properties, sound velocity and absorption coefficient of NBT-BT are characterized as a function of temperature along different crystallographic axes. The temperature dependences of the elastic constants of NBT-BT near the morphotropic phase boundary are determined for the first time. The unpoled NBT-BT single crystals exhibits the typical relaxor behaviors, presenting broad acoustic and dielectric anomalies. The application of electric field induced discontinuous changes in the elastic properties at ~110℃, which indicates field-induced phase transition occurred. The electric field also changes the dielectric constant from more relaxor-like to ferroelectric-like dielectric behavior.

  • In the present study, the effects of various heat treatments on the microstructure and mechanical properties of dual phase ODS steels were investigated to enhance the high strength at elevated temperature. Dual phase ODS steels have been designed by the control of ferrite and austenite formers, i.e., Cr, W and Ni, C in Fe-based alloys. The ODS steels were fabricated by mechanical alloying and a hot isostatic pressing process. Heat treatments, including hot rolling-tempering and normalizing-tempering with air- and furnace-cooling, were carefully carried out. It was revealed that the grain size and oxide distributions of the ODS steels can be changed by heat treatment, which significantly affected the strengths at elevated temperature. Therefore, the high temperature strength of dual phase ODS steel can be enhanced by a proper heat treatment process with a good combination of ferrite grains, nano-oxide particles, and grain boundary sliding.

  • In this study, recrystallization behaviors in the two-phase (${\alpha}+{\gamma}$) region of micro-alloyed steels such as Base, Nb, TiNbV and CAlN were investigated in terms of flow stress, microstructure and associated grain boundary characteristics. The flow stress of all specimens reached peak stress and gradually decreased, which means that recrystallization or recovery of proeutectoid deformed ferrite and recovery or transformation to ferrite of deformed austenite occurred by thermal activation. The precipitation of carbide or nitride via the addition of micro-alloying elements, because it reduced prior austenite grain size upon austenitization, promoted transformation of austenite to ferrite and increased flow stress. The strain-induced precipitation under deformation in the two-phase region, on the other hand, increased the flow stress when the micro-alloying elements were dissolved during austenitization. The recrystallization of the Nb specimen was more effectively retarded than that of the TiNbV specimen during deformation in the two-phase region.

  • In this study, the gravitating mechanical stir casting method was used to fabricating the Nb2O5/AZ31 magnesium matrix nanocomposites. Niobium pentoxide (Nb2O5) used as reinforcement with two different weight percentages (3 wt % and 6 wt %). The influence of Nb2O5 on microstructure and mechanical properties has been investigated. The microstructure analysis showed that the composites are mainly composed of the primary α-magnesium phase and phase β-Mg17Al12 secondary phase. The secondary phase was dispersed evenly along the grain boundary of the Mg phase. The Nb2O5/AZ31 nanocomposites revealed that the grain size and its lamellar shape (β-Mg17Al12) were gradually refined. Different strengthening mechanisms were assessed in terms of their contributions. Results showed that composite material properties of hardness, yield strength, and fracture study were directly related to Nb2O5 as a reinforcement. The maximum values of the mechanical properties were achieved with the addition of 3 wt% Nb2O5 on the AZ31 alloy.

  • In this study, thr effect of $Bi_2O_3$ and BN addition as grain boundary modifiers on sintering and electrical properties of semiconducting PTCR(Positive Temperature Coefficient of Resistivity) mate rial were analyzed using TMA, XRD and Complex Impedance Spectroscopy method. Bismut.h Ox~de and Boron Nitride were added to Y-doped $BaTiO_3$ respectively. Bismuth sesquioxide up to O.lmol%solubil~ ty limit of $Bi_2O_3$ in Y--$BaTiO_3$ ceramics-retarded densification and grain growth, and further addition mitigated these retardation effects. The resistivity at room temperature increased with increasing amount of $Bi_2O_3$ and thus decreased the PTCR effect, probably due to the $Bi_2O_3$ segregation on the grain boundaries. From the complex ~mpedance pattern, it is known that the grain boundary resisitivity is dominant on the whole resistivity of sample. In the result of applying the defect chemistry, $Bi^{3+} \;and \; Bi^[5+}$ are substituted for Ua and Ti site, respectively. Boron nitride decomposed and formed liquid phase among the $BaTiO_3$ grains. The decomposed com~ ponents made the second phase and existed the tr~ple juntion from the result of EPMA. From the complex impendencc pattern, the gram and grain boundary resistivity were small. The grain size increased with increasing BN contents, and decreased grain boundary resistivity enhanced the PTCR effect.
