  • Aerodynamic loads for a horizontal axis wind turbine of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Phase VI rotor in yawed condition were predicted by using the blade element momentum theorem. The classical blade element momentum theorem was complemented by several aerodynamic corrections and models including the Pitt and Peters' yaw correction, Buhl's wake correction, Prandtl's tip loss model, Du and Selig's three-dimensional (3-D) stall delay model, etc. Changes of the aerodynamic loads according to the azimuth angle acting on the span-wise location of the NREL Phase VI blade were compared with the experimental data with various yaw angles and inflow speeds. The computational flow chart for the classical blade element momentum theorem was adequately modified to accurately calculate the combined functions of additional corrections and models stated above. A successive under-relaxation technique was developed and applied to prevent possible failure during the iteration process. Changes of the angle of attack according to the azimuth angle at the specified radial location of the blade were also obtained. The proposed numerical procedure was verified, and the predicted data of aerodynamic loads for the NREL Phase VI rotor bears an extremely close resemblance to those of the experimental data.

  • The martensitic stainless steel has excellent corrosion resistance and higher strength by quenching and tempering heat treatment. It has been widely used as blade material due to these properties. The hardness and impact toughness of martensitic stainless steel depended strongly on tempering temperatures. The 12Cr martensite stainless steel (SS 410) tempered about 540℃ showed temper embrittlement. To know cause of temper embrittlement in terms of phase identification, a detailed analysis of electron diffraction patterns during TEM observations has been carried out on the <110>α-Fe and <113>α-Fe zone axes for temper embrittlement specimen. The double electron diffraction spots at 1/3(211) and 2/3(211) positions were observed. The lattice space between individual diffraction spots was about 3.5 Å and this value coincide with three times to α-bcc lattice space (1.17 Å). The area which found double diffraction spots was judged metastable "zone" similar to the omega phase and induced embrittlement of SS410 material.

  • We have developed a combined binary-phase hologram (CBPH) consisting of two binary phase holograms. The CBPH can be effectively used for optical interconnection and image processing by suppressing unwanted images of a conventional binary-phase hologram. The theory and properties of the CBPH and experimental results are presented.

  • A new Ruddlesden-Popper phase $NdSr_2MnCrO_7$ has been prepared by the standard ceramic method. The powder X-ray diffraction studies suggest that the phase crystallizes with tetragonal unit cell in the space group I4/mmm. The electrical transport properties show that the phase is an electrical insulator and the electrical conduction in the phase occurs by a 3D variable range hopping mechanism. The magnetic studies suggest that the ferromagnetic interactions are dominant.

  • A single-phase PWM current source rectifier with a neutral leg is presented and throughly analyzed in this paper. This novel topology is implemented by adding an extra leg a step-down single phase PWM space vector modulation method to reduce the dc output voltage harmonics is proposed. The PWM pattern generation need a digital system. As compared with a conventional single-phase PWM rectifier, over 20% improvement of the total harmonics distortion in the output voltage can be obtained. Different SVM techniques are analyzed for this PWM rectifier and simulation result are presented.

  • We propose an improved image encryption and the shift-tolerance method in the Fourier space using a virtual phase image. The encrypted image is obtained by the Fourier transform of the product of a phase-encoded virtual image, not an original image, and a random phase image. We demonstrate the robustness to noise, to data loss and shift of the encrypted image or the Fourier decryption key in the proposed technique.

  • A computer-generated hologram (CGH) is a digitally calculated and recorded hologram in which the amplitude and phase information of an image is transmitted in free space. The CGH is in the form of a complex hologram, but it is converted into a phase-only hologram to display through a phase-only spatial light modulator (SLM). In this paper, in the process of including the amplitude information of an object in the phase information, when a technique that includes subsampling such as DPAC is used, we showed experimentally that the bandwidth of the phase-only hologram increases, and as a result, aliasing that was not present in the complex hologram can occur. In addition, it was experimentally shown that it is possible to generate a high-quality phase-only hologram by restricting the spatial frequency range even at a distance where the numerical reconstruction performance is degraded by aliasing.

  • Super-orthogonal space-time trellis code (SOTTC) uses the expanded set of the orthogonal space-time block code to obtain coding gain and diversity gain without loss of transmit rate. In SOSTTCs, signal set expansions are performed by rotating the first column of the code matrix. The rotating phases used previously were selected to avoid the signal constellation expansion rather than the performance improvement. In this paper, we make a design criterion to select the proper rotating phase to improve the performance of SOSTTCs for fast Rayleigh fading channels. In addition, we design improved SOSTTCs by using the proper rotating phase. Simulation results are also provided to confirm our SOSTTCs are superior to the previous SOSTTCs in the view of BER performance.

  • We have performed single dish and VLBI monitoring observations of $H_2O$ and SiO masers toward the semi-regular variable star R Crateris using the Korean VLBI Network(KVN) 4 band receiving system. In the case of VLBI observations at 3 epochs, successful superposed maps of $H_2O$ and SiO masers were obtained on 2015 May by adopting the Source Frequency Phase Referencing(SFPR) method. These results enable us to investigate the development of outflow and asymmetric motions from SiO maser to $H_2O$ maser regions according to stellar pulsation which are closely related with a mass-loss process. Single dish monitoring observations were carried out from 2009 June to 2015 May. Intensity variations between $H_2O$ and SiO masers were investigated according to stellar phases together with peak velocity variations. We will compare the VLBI results with those of single dish.

  • Exploration of the wave-mode identification and its propagating property in the solar pore is desirable to study the energy transfer in the solar atmosphere. The Fast Imaging Solar Spectrograph (FISS) installed at the New Solar Telescope (NST) is a unique system that can do imaging of H-alpha and Ca II 8542 band simultaneously, which is quite suitable for studying of dynamics of chromosphere. In this study, we inspect a relationship between the cross-sectional area and intensity of the pore at continuum (-0.4 nm) near the Ca II line. We find coherent oscillations of the area and intensity. They shows out-of-phase (~ 180 degree difference) in photosphere, which implies that the oscillation is fast sausage mode. We also investigate a relationship between LOS velocities above the pore obtained from the Ca II and the Ha line cores, and find no significant difference of the phase (~10 degree) between the formation heights of the lines in chromosphere.
