The variable density phantom fabricated with varying the infill values of 3D printer to provide more accurate dose verification of radiation treatments. A total of 20 samples of rectangular shape were fabricated by using the $Finebot^{TM}$ (AnyWorks; Korea) Z420 model ($width{\times}length{\times}height=50mm{\times}50mm{\times}10mm$) varying the infill value from 5% to 100%. The samples were scanned with 1-mm thickness using a Philips Big Bore Brilliance CT Scanner (Philips Medical, Eindhoven, Netherlands). The average Hounsfield Unit (HU) measured by the region of interest (ROI) on the transversal CT images. The average HU and the infill values of the 3D printer measured through the 2D area profile measurement method exhibited a strong linear relationship (adjusted R-square=0.99563) in which the average HU changed from -926.8 to 36.7, while the infill values varied from 5% to 100%. This study showed the feasibility fabricating variable density phantoms using the 3D printer with FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling)-type and PLA (Poly Lactic Acid) materials.
This study was investigated quantitative ultrasound (QUS) usage in Korea for the QUS quality control guidelines. A total of 344 questionnaires collected from July 24th to August 25th 2017 were analyzed. Questionnaires were created through user interviews, expert group advice, literature review and field observation. As a result of the general characteristics of quantitative ultrasound holding amounted to 81.98% of clinic and 6.69% of hospitals. The main user was radio-logical technologists as 31.39%. The contact methods of the gel pad (balloon) were the most used at 56.68% and the scan region was 91.9% of calcaneus. The quantitative ultrasound quality control cycle was 67.37% when the abnormality was found in the equipment, and 63.66% when the accuracy control was implemented according to the manual. The phantoms of QUS were 34.30% of the manufacturer's own phantoms. User of QUS had never received education for quality control of quantitative ultrasound as 62.20%. This study was expected to be useful when creating detailed quality control guidelines in the future, as well as guidelines for the quality control of Korea's standard quantitative ultrasound.
To investigate the radiation dose sensitivity in extremity radiatioin therapy depending on rice cultivar which have different size and shape of grains, plan results are compared that used rice bolus Korean and Thai rice. Phantoms that are each no bolus, Korean rice bolus, Thai rice bolus were used and prescribed 100 cGy to isocenter and checked the point dose of 12 points of interest of each phantoms. The meane dose are 103.57±1.98 cGy in Thai rice bolus using, 104.27±2.12 cGy in Korean rice bolus and 104.99±6.40 cGy in phantom without bolus. Dose distribution of Thai and Korean rice bolus differed significantly in Wilcoxon's Signed Rank test (p=.011). It has been confirmed that that the bolus using Thai rice, which has a small grain size, shows a more even dose distribution.
Purpose: To evaluate the characteristics of (widely used) cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images. Materials and Methods: Images were obtained with CT performance phantoms (The American Association of Physicists in Medicine; AAPM). CT phantom as the destination by using PSR $9000N^{TM}$ dental CT system (Asahi Roentgen Ind. Co., Ltd., Japan) and i-CAT CBCT (Imaging Science International Inc., USA) that have different kinds of detectors and field of view, and compared these images with the CT number for linear attenuation, contrast resolution, and spatial resolution. Results: CT number of both PSR $9000N^{TM}$ dental CT system and i-CAT CBCT did not conform to the base value of CT performance phantom. The contrast of i-CAT CBCT is higher than that of PSR $9000N^{TM}$ dental CT system. Both contrasts were increased according to thickness of cross section. Spatial resolution and shapes of reappearance was possible up to 0.6 mm in PSR $9000N^{TM}$ dental CT system and up to 1.0 mm in i-CAT CBCT. Low contrast resolution in region of low contrast sensitivity revealed low level at PSR $9000N^{TM}$ dental CT system and i-CAT CBCT. Conclusion: CBCT images revealed higher spatial resolution, however, contrast resolution in region of low contrast sensitivity was the inferiority of image characteristics.
Diseases caused by indurate tissues of the internal organs are liver cirrhosis and abdominal sclerosis. The cause of chronic gastro-intestinal disease is a digestive system disorder and a defecation disorder. They impede peristaltic movement and digestive system with the symptom that indurate tissues. The purpose of the present study was to determine the disease grade quantitatively by measuring an indurated standard of tissues and organs. For the measurement of elasticity, we designed the system that measure the displacement of the substance and approved pressure using ultrasound transducer. For verification of developed system, we compared elasticity as results of experiment between the developed system and public elasticity measurement machine at individual plastic phantoms made by plastic hardener and softener. Elasticity of the plastic phantoms is averagely 0.007MPa lower measured by developed system than Micro-indenter, and less than 10% errors. Comparing with economical value and accuracy between developed system and Micro-indenter, the system is significant of measurement for tissue elasticity. Thus, it is possible to measure a elasticity at human tissue and organ. A chronic gastro-disease as well as grade could be decided objective validity using this system.

In this paper, a new tomographic scan method with fixed installed detectors and rotating source from gamma projector was presented to diagnose the industrial plants which were impossible to be examined by conventional tomographic systems. Weight matrix calculation method which was suitable for volumetric detector and statistical iterative reconstruction method were applied for reconstructing the simulation and experimental data. Monte Carlo simulations had been performed for two kinds of phantoms. Lab scale experiment with a same condition as one of phantoms, had been carried out. Simulation results showed that reconstruction from photopeak counting measurement gave the better results than from the gross counting measurement although photopeak counting measurement had large statistical errors. Experimental data showed the similar result as Monte Carlo simulation. Those results appeared to be promising for industrial tomographic applications, especially for petrochemical industries.
There are limits to check the lesion as inserting a breast implant patients. So the application of BSGI based on Nuclear Medicine examination has increased. In this study, therefore we confirmed the effect of the image applying to breast implants in Breast Specific Gamma Imaging. We utilized Dilon 6800 BSGI scanner and developed the phantom. The self-development phantom was a rectangular shape of $230{\times}190{\times}80mm$ size and had 5 spheres which consisted of diameters of 10, 13, 17, 22, 28 mm in central part. We injected $^{99m}TcO_4$ into the self-development phantom in the proportion of four to one and made each additional phantom filled with 0.9 % sodium chloride, silicon and paraffin. Each additional phantom was placed between detector and self-development phantom. Each image was acquired five times depending on the type and thickness of the additional phantom. Statistical analysis with SPSS ver.18 was applied. In the test of variation according to the thickness of all additional phantoms, as the phantoms which 0.9% sodium chloride, silicon and paraffin increased, the attenuation variation was higher(P<0.005). There was no significant difference in the attenuation variation and the quality of image for type of the additional phantom. Therefore, if the effect of the image applying to breast implants in Breast Specific Gamma Imaging is confirmed, the higher diagnostic value can be achieved.

To evaluate the temperature distribution according to the size of the electorde and the thickness of the phantom using 8MHz radiofrequency capacitive heating device, various sized electrodes and phantoms were used in combination. The radii of the electrodes are 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 cm and the thickness of cylindrical phantoms with diameter 30 cm were 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 35 cm. When the thickness of the phantom was 25 cm or 30 cm, homogenous heating was achieved by using the electrode which diameter was equal to or greater than the thickness of the phantom. When the thickness of the phantom was 20 cm or less. homogenous heating was not achieved by using the electrode which diameter was equal to the thickness of the phantom, but achieved by the larger diameter of the electorode. When the sizes of paired electrodes were not equal, the smaller electrode side was preferentially heated.

In this work, Rhizophora spp. particleboard phantoms were made using SPI-based adhesives, modified with sodium hydroxide and itaconic acid polyamidoamine-epichlorohydrin (0, 5, 10, and 15 wt%). An X-ray computed tomography (CT) imaging system was used to ascertain the CT numbers and density distribution profiles of the particleboards. The SPI-based/NaOH/IA-PAE/Rhizophora spp. particleboard phantoms with 15 wt% IA-PAE addition level had the highest solid content, flexural strength, flexural modulus, and internal bonding strength of 36.06 ± 1.08%, 18.61 ± 0.38 Nmm-2, 7605.76 ± 0.89 Nmm-2, and 0.463 ± 0.053 Nmm-2, respectively. The moisture content, mass density, water absorption, and dimensional stability were 6.93 ± 0.27%, 0.962 ± 0.037 gcm-3, 22.36 ± 2.47%, and 10.90 ± 0.86%, respectively. The results revealed that the mass attenuation coefficients and effective atomic number values within the 16.59-25.26 keV photon energy region, were close to the calculated XCOM values in water, with a p-value of 0.077. Moreover, the CT images showed that the dissimilarities in the discrepancy of the profile density decreased as the IA-PAE concentrations increased. Therefore, these results support the appropriateness of the SPI-based/NaOH/IA-PAE/Rhizophora spp. particleboard with 15 wt% IA-PAE adhesive as a suitable tissue-equivalent phantom material for medical health applications.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of collimator width on effective atomic number (EAN), relative electron density (RED), and stopping power ratio (SPR) measured by dual-layer dual-energy computed tomography (DL-DECT). Methods: CIRS electron density calibration phantoms with two different arrangements of material plugs were scanned by DL-DECT with two different collimator widths. The first phantom included two dense bone plugs, while the second excluded dense bone plugs. The collimator widths selected were 64 mm×0.625 mm for wider collimators and 16 mm×0.625 mm for narrow collimators. The scanning parameters were 120 kVp, 0.33 second gantry rotation, 3 mm slice thickness, B reconstruction filter, and spectral level 4. An image analysis portal system provided by a computed tomography (CT) manufacturer was used to derive the EAN and RED of the phantoms from the combination of low energy and high energy CT images. The EAN and RED were compared between the images scanned using the two different collimation widths. Results: The CT images with the wider collimation width generated more severe artifacts, particularly with high-density material (i.e., dense bone). RED and EAN for tissues (excluding lung and bones) with the wider collimation width showed significant relative differences compared to the theoretical value (4.5% for RED and 20.6% for EAN), while those with the narrow collimation width were closer to the theoretical value of each material (2.2% for EAN and 2.3% for RED). Scanning with narrow collimation width increased the accuracy of SPR estimation even with high-density bone plugs in the phantom. Conclusions: The effect of CT collimation width on EAN, RED, and SPR measured by DL-DECT was evaluated. In order to improve the accuracy of the measured EAN, RED, and SPR by DL-DECT, CT scanning should be performed using narrow collimation widths.
