  • This study was to investigate the natural dyeing materials in domestic, trials to detect new Inula Britannica. An appropriate dyeing condition ;was bath ratio 1:20, 50% (o.w.f.)conc., $80^{\circ}C$, 50min. The K/S values of silk fabric was the most efficient for the pre-mordanting method. The value of dyed fabric was mostly dark, for the mordanting, the chroma was best clear when using the Cr-mordant, color difference was distinct when using the Fe-mordant. The antimicrobiality of Inula Britannica itself appeared as a 6mm halo zone, dyed fabric was excellent with result of over 90% in mordant. In the case of dye fastness, the drycleaning and wet cleaning fastness was excellent, rubbing and perspiration fastness was improved, and light fastness was over level 2.

  • A series of monoazo disperse dyes based on 2-amino-4-phenylthiazole was prepared using various N,N-dialkvlaniline derivatives as the coupling component. The dyes were characterized by IR spectral studies, visible absorption spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The dyeing performance of these dyes was assessed on cellulose triacetate and nylon fibers. These dyes were found to give a wide range of colour shades varying from bright red to royal blue with very good depth, brightness and levelness on fibers. The dyed fibers showed good to very good light fastness and very good to excellent fastness to washing, perspiration, rubbing and sublimation. The dyebath exhaustion and fixation on the fibers were found to be very good.

  • This study used Jeju scoria to dye cotton fabric and measured its dyeability, colorfastness, antibacterial activity, deodorization efficiency, ultraviolet protection, and far-infrared emission. The cotton fabric was colored to yellowish red and optimal dyeing can be achieved at a temperature of $80^{\circ}C$ for a dyeing time of 120 minutes with a colorant concentration of 25%(o.w.b). The colorfastness to light, rubbing, perspiration, and washing was 8, 5, 5, and 4~5 ratings respectively, where the wash colorfastness remained after 15 wash cycles. The cotton fabric dyed with Jeju scoria demonstrated excellent antimicrobial activity to Staphylococcus aureus and high deodorization efficiency. Ultraviolet protection factor was as high as 50+. The Jeju scoria can be used as a new colorant for the natural dyeing of silk.

  • Silk fabric was printed with the reactive dye (vinylsulfone type) to investigate the change of adsorption and fixation by steaming time, viscosity of dyeing paste and alkali concentration. It was found that the amount of adsorption and fixation against silk increased with the increase of steaming time, and showed the maximum value at 340cp of dyeing paste. The amount of adsorption and fixation was influenced by alkali concentration. Light, washing, and perspiration fastness were very excellent.

  • Dyeing liquor was extracted from flowers, leaves and stems of balsamine. Dyeing properties, colorfastness and antibacterial activities of the fabrics dyed with the balsamine extracts were investigated at a variety of dyeing conditions of differing pH. time and temperature. Wool, silk and nylon fabrics showed better dyeability than cellulosic fabrics, i.e. cotton, linen and rayon. Especially, nylon fabrics showed the highest K/S values. The dye-uptake was achieved to the highest degree during the first ten minutes of dyeing procedure. All fabrics were dyed well at $40^\circ{C}$ with no pH adjustment. The pH of unadjusted balsamine extracts was 4.6. Their colorfastnesses to washing, drycleaning and perspiration were good as 4 or 4-5 grade. but the light fastnesses were poor as 1-2 grade. While, the antibacterial activities to Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae were excellent with 99.9% of colonies reduction ratio. Their excellent antibacterial activity was kept well after ten times washing.

  • Dyeing properties using natural material named Sasa quelpaertensis Nakai were investigated under various conditions such as fabric type, pH, concentration, temperature, dyeing time and dipping count. Sasa quelpaertensis Nakai is a unique material in that it is raised only at Halla mountain in Jeju island and is known to have healing effect. Overall, wool fabrics were better than cotton fabrics in all aspects of the dyeing properties showing reddish yellow. For the fastness properties, robbins washing and perspiration fastness were excellent but lightfastness was poor as expected.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the dyeability and antibacterial activity on wool fabric dyed with cochineal at variable dyeing conditions. Al, Cr, Fe, Cu and Sn were used as mordants and adsorption was compared with different mordanting methods. The optimum dyeing conditions of wool fabrics were dyeing concentration 2.0%(o.w.s), dyeing temperature $60^{\circ}C$, pH 3 and dyeing time 30 minutes. The pre-mordanting method was preferred for Al and Cr, and the post-mordanting one was preferred for Cu, Sn and Fe to achieve better dyeing. The optimum mordanting conditions of wool fabrics dyed with cochineal were mordanting concentration of 1%(o.w.s), mordanting temperature $60^{\circ}C$, and dyeing time 30 minutes. Wool fabrics dyed with cochineal showed a little antibacterial activity, but it was increased by Cu and Sn mordanting. The light fastness and perspiration fastness of wool fabric treated with cochineal were improved by mordanting.

  • The climacterium is that phase in the aging precess during which a woman passes from the reproductive to the non-reporductive stage. The signals, such as hot flashes, vaso-motoric disturbances, perspiration, stiff shoulders, emotinal symptoms, are refered to as climacteric disturbances. Treatment of climacteric symptoms centers around estrogen replacement and transfuilizers, but there are many problems to be solved to use these hormones/drugs as far as dossage, duration and complications are concerned. The care of women during the climacteric years should provide relief of distressing symptoms with as high a degree of safety as possible. From this view point, we used red ginseng powder to those patients with high menopausal index successfully. We studied its mechanism of action and proved that red ginseng improved the micro-circulation system via improvement of erythrocyte reformability which enhanced sex steroidgensis consequently.

  • Recent studies show that fingerprint recognition technology is confronted with spoofing of artificial fingers. In order to overcome this problem, the fingerprint recognition system needs to distinguish a fake finger from a live finger. This paper examines existing software-based approaches for fingerprint liveness detection through experiments. Implemented and tested in this paper are the approaches based on deformation, wavelet, and perspiration. These approaches will be analyzed and compared based on experimental results.

  • For the purpose of application to new natural dyestuff, the dyeability of Rubus coreanus Miquel extract was analyzed. It was dyed in silk fabric according to various dye concentration, dyeing temperature, dyeing time, and dyeing repetition. And the effects of mordanting conditions were examined as color differences and color fastnesses. The maximum absorbance of Rubus coreanus Miquel extract was at 521 nm. The dyeaffinities were increased gradually as were increased dye concentration, dyeing temperature, dyeing time, and dyeing repetition. The dyeaffinity was increased at pre-mordanted condition, and color difference was increased distinctly at post mordanted condition. The hues of mordanted silk fabrics were RP, P, PB, BG where as non mordanted silk fabric was R. Lightfastness was the best at pre-Sn mordanted and the worst at Post-Al mordanted. Washing and perspiration fastnesses were improved on pre and post-Sn mordanted.
