  • The prototype of a tactile sensor with $4\times 4$ taxels using PVDF was fabricated. The electrode patterns of the thin Cu tape are attached to the 28${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ thickness PVDF using conductive adhesive and covering the sensor using polyester film for insulation. The structure of the sensor is flexible and the fabrication procedure is easy relatively. Also the output characteristics of the sensor was nearly linear with 8% deviation. The signals of a contact pressure to the tactile sensor are sensed and processed through A/D converter, DSP system and personal computer. The reasonable performance for the detection of contact shape and force distribution was verified through the experiment.

  • A microarrayer system was developed mainly for manufacturing DNA chips. The 3-axis robot was designed to automatically collect samples from 96-or 384-well microtiter plates using up to 16 simultaneously moving pens and to deposit them on a surface-modified slide glass. This is followed by a wash/dry operation in a clean station. The cycle is repeated with a new set of samples, This system can deposit cDNA or oligonucleotides with spot intervals of $150{\;}\mu\textrm{m}$ and the spot size of $80\mu\textrm{m}$, thus allowing a high density DNA chip containing about 5,000 spots per $\textrm{cm}^2$. The entire procedure is controlled by the Visual C++ program that was written in our laboratory by using a personal computer with Pentium 100 CPU.

  • A remote controlled robotic system using the Internet is proposed in this paper. The robotic system can for example act as a substitute for a child who is staying in a hospital. Using the proposed robotic system, the bedridden child can easily look around the inside of his/her classroom, and can talk to other people. The proposed robotic system will encourage a bedridden child to maintain his/her study habits. The robotic system has a CCD camera, a speaker, a microphone, and a PC display on the robot main body. An operator also has a CCD camera, a microphone, and a PC display on the operator desk. The two personal computers are connected using the Internet ...

  • With the widespread use of high-performance electronics and mobile communications, electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding has become crucial for protection against malfunctioning of electronic equipment and harmful effects to human health. In addition, smart sensor technologies will be rapidly developed in untact (non-contact) environments and personal healthcare fields. Herein, we introduce our recently developed technologies for flexible multifunctional EMI shielding, and highly sensitive wearable pressure-strain and humidity sensors realized using low-dimensional nanomaterials.

  • Korea is experiencing a rapid increase in the number of elderly living alone accompanying the aging society problem, a nd is making efforts to solve the problem through the policy of 'living alone u-care service'. The purpose of this study is to propose a better u-Care service improvement method by applying new technology to improve the user experience of ucare service for the health and safety of the elderly living alone. First, the improvement of u-Care service for elderly livin g alone by applying IoT technology. It provides remote monitoring service using health information data measured through wearable device, and transmits personal health status to medical institution by using personal device such as smart phone, so that remote medical consultation or telemedicine can be connected in the future. Second, improvement of u-Care service through consideration of emotional stability of elderly living alone as well as simple safety and health care through applica tion of emotional service robot technology. It is expected that it will be able to help independent living of one person's elde rly person in the future by providing caring function service to existing u-care service providing service.

  • Background: Recently, there have been various developments in medical service robots (MSRs). However, few studies have examined the perceptions of those who use it. The purpose of this study is to identify user perceptions of MSRs. Methods: We conducted a survey of 320 patients, doctors, and nurses. The contents of the survey were organized as follows: external appearances, perceptions, expected utilization, possible safety accidents, and awareness of their responsibilities. Statistical analyses were performed using t-test, chi-square test, and analysis of variance. Results: The most preferred appearance was the animal type, with a screen. The overall average score of positive questions was 3.64±0.98 of 5 points and that of negative questions was 3.24±0.99. Thus, the results revealed that the participants had positive perceptions of MSR. The overall average of all expected utilization was 4.05±0.84. The most expected utilization was to guide hospital facilities. The most worrisome accident was exposure to personal information. Moreover, participants thought that the overall responsibility of the robot user (hospital) was greater than that of the robot manufacturer in the case of safety accidents. Conclusion: The perceptions of MSRs used in hospital wards were positive, and the overall expected utilization was high. It is necessary to recognize safety accidents for such robots, and sufficient attention is required when developing and manufacturing robots.

  • Purpose: This study focused on the societal changes associated with the entry into an ultra-aged society and the increase in single-person households. The core objective of this research is to investigate how social intelligent robots can bring about positive changes in the lives of individuals in single-person households and how such changes influence user satisfaction and the intention to use these robots. Methods: The study employed a cross-sectional analysis using a structural equation model. A survey designed to assess the impact of social intelligent robots' characteristics, such as perceived encouragement, empathy, presence, appearance, and attachment, on user satisfaction and usage intentions was conducted. Data were collected from a total of 335 users and analyzed using the structural equation model. Results: In the characteristics of social intelligent robots for single-person households, it was found that empathy, presence, and attachment significantly influenced satisfaction, while perceived encouragement, empathy, and attachment significantly influenced usage intentions. The research results indicate differences between enhancing user satisfaction and increasing the intention to use social intelligent robots. The findings suggest the essential need for a user-centric approach in the design and development of social intelligent robots. Additionally, it was observed that emotional support plays a crucial role in users' experiences with social intelligent robots. Conclusion: This study verified the impact of social intelligent robots on satisfaction and usage intentions based on users' experiences. It examined the influence of linguistic, visual, and personal characteristics of robots on user experiences, providing insights into how technological and human aspects of social intelligent robots interact to shape user satisfaction and usage intentions. Consequently, the study confirmed that social intelligent robots can bring positive changes to human life, emphasizing the necessity for the advancement of robot technology in a human-centric direction.
