  • In this paper, a personal air-conditioning system considering the human thermal adaptability is analyzed. Although the conventional personal air-conditioner was proofed to be satisfactory in providing for the thermal comfort, it is being questioned on the term of its energy efficiency. Therefore, it is important and urgent to develop new types of personal air-conditioning system with sustainable control strategy that can ensure energy saving and thermal comfort simultaneously. In this study, we first examined the problems of the conventional personal air-conditioning system with field interview and laboratory experiment in terms of usage, management and thermal comfort, and proposed the energy-saving personal air-conditioning system considering the human thermal adaptation. Then a laboratory experiment was performed to analyze the characteristics of the human thermal comfort under severe indoor thermal conditions, which were controlled using a new personal air-conditioning unit designed according to the proposal. The results help to illustrate the alleviation effect of the new personal air-conditioning system, and indicate that the thermal alleviation time is useful to maintain the thermal comfort with efficient usage of energy.

  • Transmission of tuberculosis (TB) is a recognized risk to patients and healthcare workers in healthcare settings. The literature review suggests that implementation of combination control measures reduces the risk of TB transmission. Guidelines suggest a three-level hierarchy of controls including administrative, environmental, and respiratory protection. Among environmental controls, installation of ventilation systems is a priority because ventilation reduces the number of infectious particles in the air. Natural ventilation is cost-effective but depends on climatic conditions. Supplemented intervention such as air-cleaning methods including high efficiency particulate air filtration and ultraviolet germicidal irradiation should be considered in areas where adequate ventilation is difficult to achieve. Personal protective equipment including particulate respirators provides additional benefit when administrative and environmental controls cannot assure protection.

  • PRT(Personal Rapid Transit) systems requires very short headways to increase the line capacity and a very reliable vehicle control algorithm for avoidance of the impact between vehicles. In this paper a brake curves (or speed patterns) for PRT system that make it possible the effective vehicle control and a collision avoidance algorithm are introduced. For the simulations and the evaluations of the proposed algorithm a combined simulation platform that consists of Labview Simulation Interface Toolkit and Matlab/Simulink and a specific hardware configuration are employed.

  • Objectives : The objectives of this study is to investigate the handwashing and use of personal protection equipment in dental hygienists and provide the basic data for dental infection control guideline. Methods : A questionnaire survey was performed in the dental hygienists who participated in the continuing education by the Daejeon City Commission in October 2012. The collected data were analyzed using PASW 18.0. Results : Handwashing was well practiced in group working for 3 to 5 years of employment. Those who took the infection cnotrol training used liquid soap, paper towel, dental mask, protective goggles, face shield, and gloves. Conclusions : Infection control is the most important practice in dental hygienists. So it is necessary to emphasize the inportnace of personal protection equipment including medical gloves, dental mask, and goggles.

  • The personal rapid transit (PRT) system is a small scale transportation system that employs a novel concept to solve the traffic congestion problem in the city area. The PRT system is a driverless on-demand system that a passenger calls a vehicle rather than waits for the vehicle. Therefore, one of the most important issues in the PRT system is how to control the vehicle with the satisfaction of the basic concept of the PRT system. In this paper a computer simulator is introduced to evaluate the vehicle. operational control algorithm of the PRT system. The. computer simulator has the commercial embedded processor boards that operate in the real time operating system and pre-designed vehicle control algorithm is coded into the processor boards. The experimental results present the effectiveness of the proposed evaluation apparatus.

  • Currently in 2013, a law that was drawn as a result of social agreement for personal information protection was enacted, and through several amendments, definite policy of written law and guideline were presented for definitive information protection in various fields of social business including IT field. Based on a series of social issues about the importance of personal information, a new access paradigm to personal information appeared. And from macroscopic access method called information protection, the necessity of technical access method came to the fore. Of course, it seems somewhat irrational to restrict all data in the form of personal information to a certain category of information until now. But in the deluge of information based on IT field, it is true that the part of checking the flow of personal information and selecting as security target has been standardized. But still there are cases in which it is difficult to routinely apply the five standardized flows of personal information Life-Cycle-collect, process, provide, store, and destroy-to information that all companies and organizations have. Therefore, the researcher proposes the standardized methodology by proposing the access control methodology for dualised hierarchical personal information Life-Cycle. The results of this research aim to provide practical data which makes optimal access control to personal information Life-Cycle possible.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between treatment belief, personal control, depressive mood, and health-related quality of life in patients with hemodialysis based on self-regulation theory. Methods: Data were collected from 220 patients at 27 local hemodialysis clinics in Seoul during 2013 and 2014. The Revised Illness Perception Questionnaire, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, and Medical Outcomes Study Short Form-12 were used to measure outcome variables. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression using the 'enter' method. Results: Treatment belief and personal control scored 3.58 and 3.54 out of 5 points respectively, on average. Treatment belief and personal control of kidney disease were negatively correlated with depressive mood and positively correlated with health-related quality of life. According to the regression analysis, treatment belief, monthly income, and personal control were discovered to account for 21.8% of the variance in depressive mood, where as depressive mood, monthly income, treatment belief, and age were found out to account for 40.6% of the variance in health-related quality of life. Conclusion: Our study demonstrated significant positive relationships between treatment belief and illness outcome in hemodialysis patients. Interventions aimed to provide the necessary information and trust to maximize the effectiveness of treatment need be developed to improve patients outcomes.

  • Recent development and generalization of Internet technology contributes to the large scale of commerce and capital followed by appearance and growth of large portal sites. As a result, the personal data on the Internet not deleted for a long period of time is a new risk factor, for example, the invasion of people's privacy. In particular, exposing personal data like witch-hunts is a critical issue so that the person concerned cannot carry on with normal life. This study suggests the necessity of the right to request personal data deletion related to a person concerned on Internet sites, a method of introducing the right in Korea, and a method of improving the application.

  • Electronic identity (e-ID) card based on smartcard is a representative identity credential for on-line and off-line personal identification. The e-ID card can store the personal identity information securely, so that the information can be accessed fast, automated identity verification and used to determine the cardholder's authorization to access protected resources. Due to such features of an e-ID card, the number of government organizations and corporate enterprises that consider using e-ID card for identity management is increasing. In this paper, we present an authentication framework for access control system using e-ID cards by discussing the threat environment and security requirement against e-ID card. Specifically, to accomplish our purpose, we consider the Personal Identity Verification system as our target model.

  • A partition integrated air supply system can provide highly personalized environmental control. The supply air is brought up through raised floors and supplied to outlets located on the partition panels. The purpose of this paper is to find out the best design of outlets for optimal occupant comfort within a personal task area. Real scale experiments were conducted to allow for comparisons of outlet designs within a personal task area. Experimental results indicate that the location of an outlet is the most critical factor in improving the efficiency of supply air distribution of a personal task area. Thermal characteristic comparisons were made between the under-floor and the partition supply systems. Experimental results suggest that the partition supply system is more efficient than the under-floor supply system in terms of cooling. Such a system allows occupants to personally control their immediate environment, resulting in higher productivity.
