  • Preparation of spherical single-perovskite phase PMN-PT powder was tried by surface modification of the precursor powder with magnesia sol. The ball-milled mixed powder was heat treated at 550$\^{C}$/l h to remove any volatiles. The calcined powder was treated with the magnesia sol of 0.3-1.0 wt% and followed by calcination at 800$\^{C}$/l h to give rise to single phase perovskite PMN-PT powders. The powder with a binary size of <0.3 ㎛ and -2 ㎛ was obtained for MgO(0.3), but the spherical, agglomerate-free powder of 0.5-0.8 ㎛ was obtained for MgO(0.6) as well as for MgO(1.0).

  • [ $0.6Pb(Sc_{1/2}Ta_{1/2})O_3-0.4PbTiO_3$ ] (hereafter PSTT) ceramics were prepared by the molten salt synthesis (MSS) method using KCI as a flux. Formation of perovskite phase was investigated by a differential thermal analysis (DTA) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis in the temperature range from $600^{\circ}C$ to $850^{\circ}C$. A 92% perovskite phase was synthesized at $750^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs using the MSS method, while 82% perovskite phase was synthesized at $850^{\circ}C$ for 4ks using the calcining of mixed oxide (CMO) method. This result could be due to the improvement in reactivity of $Sc_2O_3$ by melting of KCI. The MSS specimen sintered at $1,100^{\circ}C$ for 4hrs showed a dielectric constant of 11,200, a remnant polarization of $13.5{\mu}C/cm^2$ and a coercive field of 10.198 kV/cm, which was discussed in view of the microstructure.

  • Photovoltaic and optoelectronic devices based on hybrid metal halide perovskites ($MAPbX_3$; $MA=CH_3NH_3{^+}$, $X=Cl^-$, $Br^-$, or $I^-$) are rapidly improving in power conversion efficiency. Also, during recent years, perovskite single crystals have emerged as promising materials for high-efficiency photovoltaic and optoelectronic devices because of their low defect density. Here we show that the light soaking effect of mixed halide perovskite ($MAPbBr_{3-x}I_x$) single crystals can be explained using photoluminescence, time-resolved photoluminescence, and Raman scattering measurements. Unlike Br-based single crystal, Br/I mixed single crystal show a strong light soaking effect under laser irradiation condition that was related to the existence of multiple phases.

  • PZT thin films were fabricated by the Sol-gel method. Starting materials used for the preparation of the stock solution were Pb-acetate trihydrate, Zr-normal propoxide and Ti-isopropoxide. 2-Methoxyethanol and iso-propanol were used for solution. For studying the diffusion of Pb ion into the substrates. We used bare Si substrate, $SiO_2/Si$ substrates which was produced by thermal oxidation and $TiO_2/SiO_2/Si$ which was mad by Sol-gel method. Densification and adhesion of thin films were observed by SEM. Phase formation of thin films and diffusion of Pb ion into the substrate were examined by XRD and ESCA, respectively. In the case of bare Si and $SiO_2/Si$ substrate, we obtained the perovskite phase at $700^{\circ}C$ and restricted a little the diffusion of Si ion into the film with $SiO_2$ buffer layer. In the case of $TiO_2/SiO_2/Si$, perovskite phase were obtained at $500^{\circ}C$ and the diffusion of Pb ion and Si ion were restriced.

  • Methylammonium lead halide ($MAPbX_3$, X = I, Br) thin films, used as the light absorber of perovskite solar cells, were prepared using the dual feed ultrasonic spray method. Going through a deposition at a substrate temperature of below $60^{\circ}C$ and then a final heat treatment at $75^{\circ}C$ for 5 minutes using dual feed ultrasonic spray method, $MAPbI_3$ single phase could be formed. Whereas undergoing a deposition at temperatures above $80^{\circ}C$, the spheroidal grains could be changed into rod-shaped fractal structures due to the decomposition of the perovskite phase. Furthermore, using the same method at a higher heat treatment temperature of $100^{\circ}C$, $MAPbI_{3-x}Br_x$ thin films could also be formed from $MAPbI_3$ and $MAPbIBr_2$ solution.

  • PLZT thin films were prepared using sol-gel spin coating. The films mainly consisted of perovskite phase when heat treated at 600$^{\circ}C$ and in O2 or air atmosphere for 2 hours after 7 coating cycles. Cracks were formed when smaller than after 9 coating cycles. When ITO interlayer existed between Corning 7059 glass substrate and the film, cracks were not formed after 9 coating cycles, but cracks were formed after 11 coating cycles because of large volume change of the film contracting on the substrate during the heat treatment. In the observation of microstructure, the thin films have perovskite phase of about 2 $\mu\textrm{m}$ grain size and pyrochlore phase of 100∼200${\AA}$ grain size.

  • The effects of A-site substitution with alkaline-earth ions (Ca, Sr and Ba) on the perovskite-phase formation and dielectric properties for Pb1-xMx(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3 (0.0 x 0.5)-based relaxors were studied. Considerable improvements in the sinterability and the extent fo perovskite formation were observed with increasing the A-site substitution (x) and sintering temperature. The maximum dielectric permittivity appeared at x=0.1 for Sr and Ba substitutiion, while the relative dielectric permittivity was almost invariant in the case of Ca ion substitution. Curie temperature decreased with increasing relative amount of Sr and Ba ions but was almost invariant in case of Ca ion substitution. With increasing the amount of x, the diffuseness parameter ($\delta$) increased but the maximum dielectric constant decreased, demonstrating an enhanced diffuse phase transition (DPT) in the presence of alkaline-earth cations.

  • Some perovskites $A($Cu_{1}3}Nb_{2}3}$)O_3(A=$Sr^{2+}$$, $Ba^{2+}$ and $Pb^{2+}$) and their series of mixed perovskites have been prepared by solid state reaction. Single perovskite phase was obtained in Sr or Ba rich samples, but pyrochlore phase was found in Pb rich samples. The stability of perovskite phase is dependent on the ionicity of bonding as well as the tolerance factor. All the obtained perovskites have tetragonal symmetry distorted by Jahn-Teller effect of $Cu^{2+}$. In the case of $Sr(Cu_{1}3}Nb_{2}3})O_3$, some superlattice lines caused by threefold enlarging of fundamental unit cell were observed. And, the symmetry of B site octahedron and the bonding character of B-O bond have been studied by IR, ESR and diffuse reflection spectroscopy. It appeared that the symmetry and the bonding character are influenced by such factors as the size and the basicity of A cation.

  • CdS synthesized by the chemical bath method at $70^{\circ}C$, has been used as an electron transport layer in the planar structure of the perovskite solar cells. A two-step spin process produced a mixed halide perovskite of $CH_3NH_3PbI_{3-x}Cl_x$ and a mixture of $PbCl_2$ and $PbI_2$ was deposited on CdS, followed by a sub-sequential reaction with MAI ($CH_3NH_3I$). The added $PbCl_2$ to $PbI_2$ in the first spin-step affected the structure, orientation, and shape of lead halides, which varied depending on the content of Cl. A small amount of Cl enhanced the surface morphology and the preferred orientation of $PbI_2$, which led to large and uniform grains of perovskite thin films. In contrast, the high content of Cl produces a new phase PbICl in addition to $PbI_2$, which leads to the small and highly uniform grains of perovskites. An improved surface coverage of perovskite films with the large and uniform grains maximized the performance of perovskite solar cells at 0.1 molar ratio of $PbCl_2$ to $PbI_2$. The depth profiling of elements in both lead halide films and mixed halide perovskite films were measured by Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy, revealing the distribution of chlorine along with the thickness, and providing the basis for the mechanism for enhanced preferred orientation of lead halide and the microstructure of perovskites.
