  • Structure surfaces damaged due to many causes are repaired by several special mortars. But wide studies about the permeability of these mortars were rarely conducted. In this study compressive strength test, flexural strength test and bond strength test of these mortars were conducted. And chloride ion penetration test was also conducted to explore the permeability charcteristics of selected repair mortars. This test was carried out following the standard ASTM C1202-91. Colouriemtric penetration depth can be drawn from these test results using a relationship equation between colourimetric penetration depth and charge passed which C. Andrade suggested. Diffusion coefficient can be calculated by CTH rapid method. To the end, the present study can provide a firm base for the application of repair mortars to concrete structures.

  • A study for permeability and erosion characteristics of short fiber reinforced soils was performed. As mixing ratio increases from 0 to 1.0% permeability of short fiber reinforced soils increased but, maximum increment ratio($k_{1.0%}/k_{0%}$) was 8.47. As a result of permeability test with 19, 38 and 60mm fiber reinforced soils, there were no difference in fiber length. Void ratio increased with increment of mixing ratio and decrease of compaction energy and as a result of plotting permeability and void ratio, log k increased linearly by void ratio. As a result of erosion test, soil erosion was decreased sharply by increase of fiber mixing ratio up to 1.0%. Despite increase of soil erosion by slope angle, the increment ratio was decreased by mixing ratio.

  • This study investigated the effect of ultrasound on the permeability of the filter paper The investigation involves laboratory experiments, and the laboratory tests were conducted under abroad range of conditions Including energy levels of ultrasonic waves, time for treatment, and temperature. The results of the study show that sonication enhances the permeability of the filter paper significantly. The degree of enhancement varies with sonication power and duration of application. The effect of sonication on permeability with temperature variation and concentration of the test specimens seems not to be significant.

  • This study was focused on the investigation of permeability of latex modified concrete as the latex content variated such as 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%. The rapid chloride permeability test was used to evaluate the relative permeability of latex-modified concretes and conventional concretes. The results showed that the permeability of latex-modified concretes was considerably lower than conventional concretes tested, which may be due to the latex filled in voids and interconnections of hydrated cement and aggregates by a film of latex particles.

  • The integrity of the turbine rotors can be assessed by measuring reversible permeability and Vickers hardness of the aged rotors at service temperature. The measurement system of reversible permeability, which measured by applied alternating perturbing magnetic field, was constructed in order to evaluate material degradation, nondestructively. The test specimen was 1Cr-1Mo-0.25V steel used widely for turbine rotor material, and the specimens were prepared by the isothermal heat treatment at $630\;^{\circ}C$. The reversible permeability of the test materials were measured at room temperature. The peak interval of reversible permeability and Vickers hardness decreased with the increase of degradation. The degradation of test material may be determined nondestructively by the lineality of Vickers hardness and the peak interval of reversible permeability.

  • In general steel sheet pile use the containment system, vertical barrier systems for waste disposal and landfill purposes, roads in excavation which have a more permanent character or temporary structure. The sheet pile joints between section of the wall are sealed with a filter material arid the resistance to seepage is a function of the type of material employed. The aim of this paper is to review a characteristic of permeability for Z type sheet pile by field test in various condition.

  • Dredged and reclaimed soft clays form slurry state which is very high water content and very low shear strength, experience large self-weight consolidation, nonlinear compressibility and permeability phenomenon would take place. In this case, a material functions which represent variety effective stress-void ratio-permeability relation (especially very low effective stress), are should be determined to predict nonlinear finite strain consolidation phenomenon forehand In this study, large slurry consolidometer with a 380mm diameter and a 1400mm height which is able to consolidation and permeability test, was developed to determine material function of very soft clay with a 500% initial water content clay, self-weight consolidation and low stress level consolidation (1Kpa, 3Kpa, 6Kpa, 12Kpa) was conducted and after each consolidation step permeability test also conducted. after final consolidation step, a constant rate of strain consolidation was conducted with undisturbed sample obtained from the large consolidometer. On the above result, material function was determined and laboratory test was modelled to evaluate its validity, numerical analysis on th field was compared to other method.

  • The inflow rate is of interest in the design of underground structures such as tunnels and buried pipes below the groundwater table. Soil permeability governing the inflow rate significantly affects the hydro-geological behavior of soils but is difficult to estimate due to its wide range of distribution, nonlinearity and anisotropy. Volume changes induced by stress can cause nonlinear stress-strain behavior, resulting in corresponding permeability changes. In this paper, the nonlinearity and anisotropy of permeability are investigated by conducting Rowe cell tests, and a nonlinear permeability model considering anisotropy was proposed. Model modification and parameter evaluation for field application were also addressed. Significance of nonlinear permeability was illustrated by carrying out numerical analysis of a tunnel. It is highlighted that the effect of nonlinear permeability is significant in soils of which volume change is considerable, and particularly appears in the short-term flow behavior.

  • In this study, the increment effect of safety factor according to increasing of horizontal permeability coefficient is analyzed when geocell is installed on the slope for protection. To evaluate the horizontal permeability and reinforcement effect, the laboratory tests such horizontal permeability test were conducted. According to the laboratory test results, as the porosity rate of geocell increases, the coefficient of horizontal permeability is also increased. And also, regardless of the different types of filled materials, the coefficient of horizontal permeability is improved in a geocell reinforced ground compare with the non-reinforced ground. Laboratory test results and the rainfall intensity were applied to the numerical modeling of slope for seepage analysis and stability analysis of slope by using Soilworks, numerical analysis program. As a result of the slope stability analysis, it is confirmed that the installed geocell on the slope facilitates the drainage of water on the surface of slope. Hence, the ground water elevation is suppressed. Therefore, the safety factor of the slope is increased by the increasing of the internal friction angle, apparent cohesion, and coefficient of horizontal permeability by reinforcing the slope with geocell.

  • This paper presents groundwater flow characteristics in discontinuous rock mass using fracture network program(NAPSAC) by statistical approach. Equivalent permeability coefficients are estimated from borehole data around Mabuk test tunnel site and fracture map on the arch of the tunnel. The reliability of fracture network model is obtained from determination of input data for statistical fracture network analysis from the real data(data of fracture network, data of hydraulic tests). The variation of permeability and mean anisotropic permeability coefficients are calculated from the realized model by increasing the size. As a result of analysis, a strong anisotropy of permeability is observed according to the direction of the fracture sets around the test tunnel.
