Soil-cement column is often used as a contaminant barrier. This study presents the results of experimental study performed to investigate the changes of properties of soil-cement column under the attack of acids. Sulfuric nitric, and ascetic acid were used as contaminants. Specimen were made of clayey and sandy soils with addition of cement and water Permeability of soil-cement decreased with time during permeability test. When significant amount of acid percolated the specimen, permeability increased and compressive strength decreased due to the dissolution and leaching of cement and its chemical reaction compounds. Sulfuric and nitric acid were more effective than ascetic acid in deteriorating soil-cement column. Amount of acid required to lower the pH of soil cement below 12 was calculated from the results of permeability tests. This leads to a conclusion that, under the conditions employed in this study, the chemical stability of soil-cement column could be maintained against acid attack for longer than generally accepted lifetime of contaminant barriers.
The magnitude and distribution of earth pressure on the excavation wall in jointed rock mass were examined by considering different wall permeability conditions as well as rock types and joint inclination angles. The study was numerically extended based on a physical model test (Son & Park, 2014), considering rock-structure interactions with the discrete element method, which can consider various characteristics of rock joints. This study focused on the effect of the permeability condition of excavation wall on the earth pressure in jointed rock masses under a groundwater condition, which is important but has not been studied previously. The study results showed that the earth pressure was highly influenced by wall permeability as well as rock type and joint condition. Earth pressure resulted from the study was also compared with Peck's earth pressure in soil ground, and the comparison clearly showed that the earth pressure in jointed rock mass can be greatly different from that in soil ground.

The objective of this study was to investigate the influence the influence of theoretical void ratio(T.V.R), grading of aggregate and curing method on the strength and water permeability of porous concrete, and the reduction proportion of water permeability by these factors. The results of the study showed that its strength and water permeability were greatly depended on the T.V.R and grading of aggregate, but didn't on the curing method. And, when the T.V.R and grading of aggregate were increased, the reduction proportion of water permeability was small. As the relation ship between its physical properties and non-destruction test values was very high, its use for the estimation of the physical properties will be useful.

Hardened concrete contains pores of varying types and sizes, and therefore the transport of air through concrete can be considered. The rate of permeability will not only depend on the continuity of pores, but also on the moisture contents in concrete. In this paper, the effects of curing conditions and moisture content ratios on the carbonation and air permeability are investigated according to the accelerated carbonation test. The results are follows. 1) Compressive strength, carbonation velocity and air permeability are influenced by the moisture content and curing method. 2) The relationship between carbonation velocity coefficient and air permeability coefficient has been quite well established.

Covering mortar as a filter for permeable polymer concrete is necessary for good permeability from filtration continuously. Therefore, this paper is intended as an evaluation of the mechanical properties and permeability of permeable polymer concrete covered with polymer mortar as a filter. An optimum permeable polymer concrete is selected in various mix proportions, and three different polymer mortars were cast immediately following on the casting of the base permeable polymer concrete. And they are tested for compressive and flexural strengths, adhesion in tension, hardening shrinkage and permeability . From the test results, binder and filler contents in mix proportions had a great influence on the permeability of polymer concretes. The mechanical properties of permeable polymer concretes covered with polymer mortars using crushed stone are superior to other filters, and hardening shrinkage is the smallest in filters. It is apparent that adhesion between the base permeable polymer concrete and polymer mortar is affected by the degree of hardening shrinkage. From this study, proper mix proportions can be recommended in the consideration of properties of the permeable polymer concrete.

Polyproplyene Fibers have many advantages such as light weight, low cost, chemical stability and duragbility. It has been reported that polypropylene fiber can increase the toughness of concrete and the resistance to crack formation. This study has been performed to investigate the dirability related properties such as permeability and diffusivity of polypropylene fiber reinforced concrete. The permeability and diffusivity were measured with GWT, Poroscope, and electrical conductivity of concrete. From the test result, it is found that the addition of the polypropylene fiber improved the permeability and diffusivity of concrete, when the workability reduction was corrected by water reducer. The relationships between the permeability and diffusivity, and other properties of polypropylene fiber reinforced concrete showed that the tesst results are interrelated each other.

The rubble base in the seadike structure is construct with rubble-mound of big size for stability of seadike against a tidal current velocity at the closing. The permeability gives an effect to stability of seadike a lot in The case which rubble base is founded long with a lake direction like objective area of this study. The permeability of the rubble base produced in the model test regarding filling condition and materials of the rubble base, It applied the result which it tests in seepage analysis and it analyzed a stability of piping, In this study, it diminishes the permeability of the rubble base to respect, the pit soil more the dredge soil is effective and it was analyzed with the fact that it increases the stability of lake direction slope against the piping.

The purpose of this study is to identify basic property of porous concrete using cooper slag as fine aggregate. The specimens were made with cooper slag with various mixing ratio(10, 20, 30, 50%), porous concrete and porous concrete containing river fine aggregate and crushed fine aggregate, which W/B ratio fixed 0.25. Compressive strength, Flexural strength, coefficient of permeability. From the test results, various fine aggregate mixing ratio improves compressive strength and flexural strength, but cooper slag fine aggregate mixing ratio over 20%, concrete indicates trend to decrease performance of permeability. Concrete containing fine aggregate is improved the performance of permeability and strength compared to other specimen, when age 28days, and cooper slag mixing ratio less than 20% concrete indicates better performance than cooper slag mixing ratio 20% over.

Military textiles with breathable waterproof materials are expanding as form of winter clothes. Waterproof moisture-permeable clothes are very important for soldiers to survive in cold weather operations because they prevent loss of body heat from the penetration of water into the human body. Korea military uses the water resistance and moisture permeability to test the performance of waterproof moisture-permeable materials. Moisture permeability is measured according to the amount of evaporated water vapor passing through a fabric under specified temperature and humidity by using acetic acid potassium presented in KS K 0594. However, the test procedure for measuring the moisture permeability in the standard is presented only briefly and the preparation procedures for the test in accredited testing institutions are applied differently, leading to significant deviation of the results. This paper compares the procedures of testing institutions and examines the factors that affect moisture permeability. Finally, we propose a procedure to reduce the deviation of results and apply the proposed procedure in testing institutions. Our analysis results with one-way ANOVA under significant level (0.05) confirm that the deviation of results is reduced.
Biot proposed the frequency dependent formulation for the propagation of elastic waves in saturated media based on the coupled theory mixtures. Based on Biot theory, a special frequency called 'the characteristic frequency' contains unique information of the permeability of soils. The characteristic frequency is measured from I/Q (inverse quality factor) versus frequency curve by an acoustic sweep test, and the permeability of soils is computed from Biot equation. In this paper, laboratory tests are performed at The University of Mississippi using a large test box. The measured characteristic frequency is consistently obtained at 3500 Hz for mortar sands. The computed permeability of mortar sands based on Biot equation turned out 2.01 $10^{-4}m/sec$, while the permeability from the laboratory constant head test turned out 1.49 $10^{-4}m/sec$. This paper addresses the theoretical background and experimental procedure of this technique.
