  • Magneto-Impedance(MI) sensor is a highly sensitive sensor, which was able to detect a weak geomagnetic field. It also has a merit to be able to build in the low power system. In this study, their magnetic permeability and anisotropy field(H$\sub$k/) as a function of some different thickness of sputtered amorphous CoZrNb films with zero-magnetostriction and soft magnetic property are investigated. In order to make a uniaxial anisotropy, film was subjected to the post annealing in a static magnetic field with 1KOe intensity at 250, 300, and 320$^{\circ}C$ respectively for 2 hours. Magnetic properties of films are measured by using a M-H loop tracer. Magnetic permeability of a film is measured over the frequency range from 1 ㎒ to 750㎒. By thickening a CoZrNb film relatively, magnetic permeability and impedance are examine to design the. MI sensor which drives at 50㎒, and thereof fabricated the MI sensor which drives at the 50㎒.

  • MI(Magneto-Impedance) sensor which is made by thin films has significantly high detecting sensitivity in weak magnetic field. It also has a merit to be able to build in the low power system. Its structure is simple, which makes it easier to prepare a miniature. In this study, its magnetic permeability and anisotropy field($H_{k}$) as a function of a thickness of sputtered amorphous CoZrNb films with zero-magnetostriction and soft magnetic property are investigated. In order to make a uniaxial anisotropy, film was subjected to the post annealing in a static magnetic field with 1KOe intensity at 250, 300, and $320^{\circ}C$ respectively for 2 hours. Magnetic properties of film are measured by using a MH loop tracer. Its magnetic permeability of a film is measured over the frequency range 1 MHz to 750MHz. And, it was examined on the permeability and impedance to design the MI sensor which acts at 50MHz by thickening a CoZrNb film relatively, and fabricated the MI sensor which acts at the 50MHz.

  • The oedometer test and the constant rate of consolidtion test were performed using the sedimented clayey soil sample. The characteristics of permeability of the clayey soil such as anisotropy, permeability change index, relation with void ratio, and influencing factors, were investigated from the lab. test results. Analyzing the permeability characteristics, the representative permeability coefficient was proposed.

  • This work addresses the relationship between initial complex permeability and porosity in polycrystalline Mg-ferrite material. The initial permeability corresponds to Snoek theory except the sample with large grains. The frequency which initial real permeability, $\mu$' equal 1 due to domain rotation are found in the frequency range 50-80 [MHz]. Internal magnetic field which is considered as mainly anisotropy field is 100[Oe] which is obtained from the relationship between initial complex permeability and porosity in polycrystalline Mg-ferrite material. This is almost the half value of reported anisotropy field of single Mg-ferrite. The difference between them is almost due to domain wall effect in polycrystalIine Mg-ferrite material.

  • Pusan clay, which is distributed in the Nakdong River estuary, is unusually soft and thick compared with other clays in the world. Because the consolidation settlement of the clay was significantly underestimated in several recent reclamation projects, it has been emphasized particularly on the need of studying the permeability characteristics. This study carries out vertical and horizontal permeability tests on undisturbed and consolidated samples from two sites of the area. The results of the study show the peculiar permeability anisotropy and the relationships with other indexes on Pusan clay and also comparison with those of other world clays.

  • We measured the microwave permeability in the frequency range of 100 MHz$\sim$9 GHz in the exchange biased CoFe/MnIr films. The results were analyzed based on the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert theory. The initial permeability and ferromagnetic resonance frequency was tuned by controlling the CoFe thickness and unidirectional anisotropy. The tunable range of ferromagnetic resonance frequency was up to 20 GHz in the thin CoFe layer of 1.5 nm. The CoFe/MnIr films showed the high permeability and low loss properties in the microwave frequency range. Thus, this material could be applied to the microwave devices.

  • The dependence of the magnetoimpedance effect (MI) on magnetic properties has been investigated in mumetal thin films prepared by rf magnetron sputtering. Coercivity of thin films prepared at 400 W was about 0.4 Oe, and the magnetic anisotropy field of films deposited under a uniaxial magnetic field decreased with increasing film thickness. The saturation magnetization of mumetal films increased with rising input power and thickness and was smaller than that of permalloy films. Transverse incremental Permeability (TPR) of films of 1$\mu m$ thick increased with increasing effective permeability. The magneto impedance ratio (MIR) was proportional to TPR in films 1$\mu m$ thick but in spite of lower effective permeability at higher thicknesses, MIR increased due to skin effect. The height of the double peaks in the MIR curves decreased with decreasing anisotropy and thickness. The maximum MIR value for a 4$\mu m$ thick 75% at 36.5 MHz.

  • The permeability behavior of Ariake clays has been investigated by constant rate of strain (CRS) consolidation tests with vertical or radial drainage. Three types of Ariake clays, namely undisturbed Ariake clay samples from the Saga plain, Japan (aged Ariake clay), clay deposit in shallow seabed of the Ariake Sea (young Ariake clay) and reconstituted Ariake clay samples using the soil sampled from the Saga plain, were tested. The test results indicate that the deduced permeability in the horizontal direction ($k_h$) is generally larger than that in the vertical direction ($k_v$). Under odometer condition, the permeability ratio ($k_h/k_v$) increases with the vertical strain. It is also found that the development of the permeability anisotropy is influenced by the inter-particle bonds and clay content of the sample. The aged Ariake clay has stronger initial inter-particle bonds than the young and reconstituted Ariake clays, resulting in slower increase of $k_h/k_v$ with the vertical strain. The young Ariake clay has higher clay content than the reconstituted Ariake clay, resulting in higher values of $k_h/k_v$. The microstructure of the samples before and after the consolidation test has been examined qualitatively by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) image and semi-quantitatively by mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP) tests. The SEM images indicate that there are more cut edges of platy clay particles on a vertical plane (with respect to the deposition direction) and there are more faces of platy clay particles on a horizontal plane. This tendency increases with the increase of one-dimensional (1D) deformation. MIP test results show that using a sample with a larger vertical surface area has a larger cumulative intruded pore volume, i.e., mercury can be intruded into the sample more easily from the horizontal direction (vertical plane) under the same pressure. Therefore, the permeability anisotropy of Ariake clays is the result of the anisotropic microstructure of the clay samples.

  • The frequency dependence of complex permeability for various NiCuZn ferrites was investigated. The variation of complex permeability for NiCuZn ferrites can be presented as a form of a semi-circle, so called the Cole-Cole plot, and the relaxation phenomena were explained with various shapes of the plots. The relaxation time $\Upsilon$ was calculated from $f_rx$, which is a relaxation frequency at ${\mu"}_{max}$. Relations between anisotropy field $H_A$ and relaxation time $\Upsilon$, initial permeability $\mu_i$ and $H_A$ were plotted to identify the frequency dependence of complex permeability.lity.

  • The magneto-impedance (MI) has been measured in the annealed Co66Fe4Ni1B14Si15 amorphous ribbon for the evaluation of anisotropy field. MI at the frequency of 10 MHz is related to the transverse permeability from rotational magnetization depending on the local anisotropy field. MI varies sensitively with the annealing temperature, reflecting the change of anisotropy field distribution. The local anisotropy fields evaluated from MI Profiles are discussed in terms of the magnetic softness and microstructural change by the annealing.
