  • Electric power steering(EPS) has many attentions such as fuel consumption improvement, thus it has been widely adopted for automotive application in recent years. In the EPS system, torque vibrations are directly transferred through the steering wheel to the hands of the driver. Hence, the design of PM motors for the EPS should be performed in order to reduce torque ripples including cogging torque. In this paper, Surface mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(SPMSM) is designed to reduce torque ripples and cogging torque at a same time for the EPS propulsion and the design results are verified with the experimental ones.

  • 최근 철도 차량의 대부분은 인버터 제어에 의한 유도전동기를 채택하여, 많은 사용상의 이점을 내고 있다. 하지만 이 인버터 제어는 장치의 소형 경량화, 저비용화의 관점에서, 1대의 인버터로 복수의 유도 전동기를 구동하는 방식이 주류이다. 최근, 고성능화로 영구자석을 사용한 동기전동기는 산업용, 전기 자동차용과 모든 분야에서 주목을 받아, 소형 경량 고효율"의 특징을 살려서 유도전동기를 대신하여 고성능 모터의 주역이 되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 철도 차량용 주전동기로 이 영구자석 직접구동전동기를 개발하여 기존 유도 전동기와 비교하여 성능을 평가 하였다. 실험을 통해 영구자석 직접구동전동기는 기존 유도 전동기에 비해 고 효율화, 유지보수성 향상 등의 효과가 있음을 알 수 있다.

  • Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors(IPMSM) are expanding the application extent for industrial applications. Because that High efficiency and wide speed range are required in applications of electric vehicles, spindle drives and compressors and so on. The performance of IPMSM are deeply affected by the current phase control.   • Using sensors to detect current or voltage of motors is disadvantaged because motor is exposed to vibration, impacts, corrosion, high temperature and humidity in the machinery structure like HEV. In the case of IPMSM, position information is included not only in the flux or EMF term but also in the rotator inductance because of its saliency. To solve this problem, a new mathematical model of IPMSMs on fixed frame is proposed and an extended EMF includiing rotating position information is defined to estimate extended EMF. A strong low-pass filter through the variable cut-off frequency using velocity function was proposed. This makes it is possible to estimate extended EMF by least order disturbance observer. The proposed method was proved through the experiment.

  • This paper proposes inserted core type of slotless Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor(PMLSM) to improve its low thrust density. However, by inserting the core between windings of each phase, detent force is generated and it acts as thrust ripple. Furthermore, linear motors generate end effect making thrust ripple. So, this paper applies the neural network to minimize detent force and to maximize thrust. Also, sub-poles is placed at the end parts of the mover to compensate end effect. To confirm of calculation method's validity, the calculated results are compared with experimental results.

  • A sensorless control algorithm of brushless DC (BLDC) motors with a model current based on 120 degree conduction mode is proposed in this paper. The rotor speed and position can be estimated using the current model of BLDC motor, which is a modified version of the conventional current model of permanent magnet synchronous motor. The rotor speed and position can be obtained using the difference of the actual current and the model current. The position error caused by the parameter errors of the model current is compensated using a PI controller and the feedback loop of the real current. The validity of the proposed sensorless control algorithm is verified through simulation.

  • This paper presents a new speed and position sensorless control method of permanent magnet synchronous motors based on the sliding mode observer. The sliding mode observer structure and its design method are described. Also, Lyapunov functions are chosen for determining the adaptive law for the speed and the stator resistance estimator. The effectiveness of the proposed observer is confirmed by the experimental results.

Extrapolating B-H Curve Data using Common Electrical Steel Characteristics for High Magnetic Saturation Applications

  • In this paper, an adequate B-H curve extrapolation method is proposed and its reliability is verified through experiments. A method is developed to estimate the magnetic saturation induction from the density of the lamination core and electrical resistivity. The magnetic saturation induction of electrical steels measured using a vibration sample magnetometer are compared with the analytical results to validate the accuracy of the proposed estimation method. It is found that the predicted error in the magnetic saturation induction of the electrical steels are approximately 1.2% when the proposed method is used. The performance of interior permanent magnet synchronous motors that applies the proposed method are evaluated via 2D nonlinear finite element analysis and through experiments. Based on the obtained results, the extrapolated B-H curves from the estimated saturation induction can be used for various analyses in saturation region.

  • Recently, PMSMs(Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors) have become increasingly popular in various high-performance motor drive applications. However, the high-performance drive of PMSMs needs a position sensor such as a resolver, which increases not only the price of the system but also reduces the system reliability. This paper is on the implementation of sensorless control of a SPMSM, which drives a fan for cooling in appliances. In this paper, the rotor position for high-performance drive of a SPMSM is derived from back electromotive force (EMF) information proportional to the rotor speed. Also, the initial rotor position information for start-up is estimated from a saturation phenomenon of inductance. The validity of the proposed sensorless drives was confirmed by the experiment on the SPMSM drive systems for cooling fans of refrigerators and laptop computers.

  • In this paper, we investigate the optimization design for a spoke type motor with the characteristics of high torque density and high-efficiency. This motor has a high output per unit volume. In order to reduce noise and vibration caused by a high cogging torque, optimization design of the rotor and stator have been conducted using both Response surface method (RSM) and Finite elements method (FEM). In this paper, we show the potential for this motor to efficiently replace existing interior permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSM) in a wide range of industries.
