  • Brushless DC Motor (BLDCM) is DC motor and Interior PM Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) is AC motor. Besides their way of control is different. But it is similar that both motors rotate synchronous velocity and use the permanent magnet. So, it is an objective to grasp a tendency of motor design and efficiency of motor through a characteristic comparison of BLDCM and IPMSM with the same power, rotation velocity, torque and input voltage.

  • 본 논문에서는 Brushless DC Motors(이하 BLDC Motor이라 함)의 비대칭 영구자석 오버행 구조에 의한 Z축 방향 추력, 진동 특성을 연구하였다 무부하인 경우에는 Z축방향 추력이 일정하므로 베어링에 하중으로만 작용하여 진동은 발생하지 않는다. 그러나 코일전류가 증가할수록 코일전류에 의한 증자, 감자작용으로 인하여 자속에 리플이 발생하며 Z축 방향 추력도 리플은 물론 진동이 발생한다. 따라서, 븐 연구에서는 전기자 전류 변화에 따른 자속밀도 및 Z축 방향 추력 특성을 해석하였으며 이를 실험치와 비교하였다.

  • This paper proposes a new pole shaped magnetizing fixture with a non uniform air gap for sinusoidal magnetizing a ring type permanent magnet (PM) to reduce the cogging torque. To obtain more sinusoidal distributed magnetic flux density, the magnetizing fixture's pole shape is optimized by using the sequential response surface method (RSM). And the effects of each design parameter were investigated using the magnetic analysis combined a time stepping finite element method (FEM) with Preisach model. It has been shown, through numerical analysis the optimized modelgives near sinusoidal distributed air gap flux density and drastically reduced cogging torque.

  • This paper is analyzed the characteristic of multi-phase inverter for the electric propulsion system. Two BLDC motors with 3 and 7 phases are designed with these features in order to simulate the effect of increasing the number of phases. From the simulation results, the 7-phase given better performance in terms of torque pulsation. Also, the torque pulsation can be reduced further by increasing the number of phases.

  • 본 논문에서는 Brushless DC Motors(이하 BLDC Motor이라 함)의 영구 자석의 오버행에 따른 진동, 소음 특성에 대하여 다루었다. 비대칭 오버행 구조에서는 Z축 방향 힘이 발생한다. 이는 베어링에 손상을 입힐 뿐 아니라 큰 노이즈와 진동을 유발시킨다. 따라서 진동과 소음의 감소를 위한 자석 오버행 효과 해석이 필수적이다. 본 논문에서는 비대칭 영구 자석 오버행 효과를 해석하고 BLDC Motor에서 발생하는 소음과 진동을 분석하였고 비대칭 영구 자석 오버행 효과를 고려하여 Z축 방향의 영향력을 계산하기 위하여 3차원 유한요소법(3D FEM)을 사용하였다.

  • This paper deals with the cogging torque analysis of a BLDC Motor, which has the axial displacement of its rotor. In order to improve the torque performance of the BLDC motor, Brushless motor is commonly designed to minimize its cogging torque. Therefore, a skewed model is used to reduce the cogging torque. However, even though the rotor or stator is skewed, the cogging torque could be increased by the axial displacement of the rotor, which occurs when the BLDC Motor is manufactured. Therefore, this paper investigates the effect of the axial displacement of the rotor on the cogging torque. In order to investigate the effect, an analysis method, which is 3D-EMCN in combination with 2D-FEM, is proposed to analyze the cogging torque of the BLDC motor with the axial displacement of its rotor, and the result of the analysis is verified by comparison with the experimental result.

  • This paper describes the design, manufacture, and testing of servos applicable to small tracking radars. First, Chapter 1 describes the necessity of this study. Chapter 2 describes the development of servos applicable to future tracking radars in small missile systems. Chapter 3 describes the design and test results for current control of brushed DC motors, brushless DC motors, and permanent magnet synchronous motors. And Chapter 4 describes the design and test results for speed control of the test wheel. And in Chapter 5, the results of the previous tests are summarized. In this paper, some pictures were intentionally blurred for security reasons, and the control result of test wheel was described, not the test with the developed gimbals.

Cogging Torque and Acoustic Noise Reduction in High Torque BLDC Motors by Teeth Pairings (고정자 잇날 페어링을 이용한 고출력 토크 BLDC 전동기의 코깅 토크 및 소음 저감)

  • This paper investigates reduction of acoustic noise and cogging torque in a BLDC motor with larger stator slot open width. Using energy method, cogging torque is analytically determined with airgap MMF function and airgap permeance function and confirmed by FEM analysis. It shows that the cogging torque is firstly governed by NL GNL BNL with the fundamental period of NL, where NL is the least common multiple of the number of slots and the number of poles, GNL, airgap permeance function and BNL, airgap MMF function. It also shows that there exist several tooth width which minimizes the cogging torque, for the motors that smaller slot open width or stator teeth notching is not available. And it proposes a teeth pairing with two different tooth width which can effectively eliminate the cogging torque and thus the acoustic noise. Experimental results show that the proposed teeth pairing reduces the cogging torque by 85% and the acoustic noise by 3.1dB.

  • This paper describes independent phase BLDC motor with a maximum torque among BLDC motor used for electric propulsion system Independent phase BLDC motor has characteristic that phases of stator we independent electrically. This paper is modeling two type of 3 phases BLDC motors, one has Y-connection type and the other has independent type, and it shows simulation of them, compares its characteristics. As a result of simulation, phase voltage of independent 3 phase BLDC motor is higher than Y-connection three phase BLDC motor. When the stator resistance and inductance are stable, high phase voltage causes an increase in maximum phase current and an increases in it serially causes an increase of maximum torque. It is also found that the current pulsation of independent phase BLDC motor was decreased by controlling phase current of independent BLDC motor.

  • The Electric Power Steering (EPS) has been applied to the vehicles due to its better fuel efficiency, better steering feel, and the compact volume compared to the hydraulic power steering. The brushed PM (Permanent Magnet) DC motors had been adopted in most of the EPS systems until several years ago due to its easy control and a simple hardware configuration of the power converter, but nowadays the BLAC (Brushless AC) motor is becoming more popular for the EPS system because of its high efficiency and long lifetime. This paper reviews the configuration of the EPS system and the BLAC motor and drive technologies based on the papers published recently. The torque ripple reduction for steering feel and the fault detection algorithms for safety are also reviewed.
