  • In this paper, a reconfigurable peripheral unit for LED lighting communication is presented. Embedded lighting devices require various communication protocols. Usually, serial communication protocols and lighting control communication protocols such as DALI, DMX512, UART, SPI, IrDA, etc. are used in lighting devices. When the requirements of communication protocols are satisfied with separate IPs, the cost and the power consumption can considerably increase. We propose a reconfigurable communication peripheral unit which uses analysis of signal formats of the protocols. The gate count of the reconfigurable peripheral unit uses only 57% of the gate count of the separate implementation. Also, in this paper, a mapping table based DALI-ZigBee interfacing method for flexible lighting network configurations is proposed. Using this method, various DALI-ZigBee network systems can be easily set up. An LED lighting system platform is implemented to verify the operation of the DALI-ZigBee interfacing method. The reconfigurable peripheral unit and the DALI-ZigBee interfacing method can be efficiently used to implement various wired/wireless lighting communication systems.

  • The performance of peripheral devices is improving rapidly to meet the needs of users for multimedia data. Therefore, the peripheral interface with wide bandwidth and high transmission rate becomes necessary to handle large amounts of data in real time for multiple high-performance devices. PCI Express is a fast serial interface with the use of packets that are compatible with previous PCI and PCI-X. In this paper, we design and verify general peripheral interface using serial link. It includes two kinds of traffic class (TC) labels which are mapped to virtual channels (VC). The design adopts TC/VC mapping and the scheme of arbitration by priority. The design uses a packet which can be transmitted through up to four transmission lanes. The design of general peripheral interface is described in Verilog HDL and verified using ModelSim. For FPGA verification, Xilinx ISE and SPARTAN XC3S400 are used.We used Synopsys Design Compiler as a synthesis tool and the used library was MagnaChip 0.35um technology.

  • Cell phenotypes are determined by groups of functionally related genes. Microarray profiling of gene expression provides us response of cellular state to its perturbation. Several methods for uncovering a cellular network show reliable network reconstruction. In this study, we present reconstruction of genetic regulatory network of inflammation bowel disease in human peripheral blood mononuclear cell. The microarray based on Affymetrix Gene Chip Human Genome U133 Array Set HG-U133A is processed and applied network reconstruction algorithm, ARACNe. As a result, we will show that inferred network composed of 450 nodes and 2017 edges is roughly scale-free network and hierarchical organization. The major hub, CCNL2 (cyclin A2), in inferred network is shown to be associated with inflammatory function as well as apoptotic function.

  • A scientific and systematic approach for digitally representing colours is essential for improving image quality. Therefore, there is a need for objectively analysing such approaches. Studies regarding display systems, which can reflect human visual characteristics in the digital media environment, and associated international standards at the forefront, have already caused significant impact. Colour is one of the most important factors employed for evaluating the overall image quality of displays. The proposed study focusses on colour properties which are based on the characteristics of the human peripheral vision area, with the primary objective of reproducing digital colours which can simulate human visual characteristics in the digital media environment. The proposed study aims at identifying digital colour characteristics which can vary according to the level of background lightness and the size of colour stimuli. Based on the evaluation results obtained through psychophysical experiments, a method has been proposed for determining peripheral vision characteristics which vary according to the increasing size of a colour stimulus, thereby digitally reproducing them on displays.

  • Peripheral devices of OBCS in kyeongbu KTX serve various function. those services operate to make sure the safety of trains by displaying some malfunction signs of system and help maintain them appropriately. and they also provide various services for passengers in KTX. They divide into TECA which supports drivers with various data, PID which displays where to go, FDTR, HVAC, MDT etc. To develop superannuated devices, maintain and check its malfunction., we need to analyse hardware specification, OBCS and also protocol for communication devices simultaneously. here, we're trying to find how to find efficient approach by using a protocol analyser properly. We're going to develop peripheral devices to elevate and improve maintenance functions by collecting, compiling data.

  • Background and Objectives: Globally, the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is responsible for one of the most serious pandemics to date. The vulnerability of the vestibular system in individuals with HIV has been confirmed, and central vestibular impairments have been frequently reported. However, there are disagreements on the impact of HIV on peripheral vestibular function. Thus, the current study aimed to determine the prevalence of peripheral vestibular impairment, specifically related to the semi-circular canals (SCCs), in HIV-positive individuals receiving antiretroviral (ARV) treatment. Subjects and Methods: A total of 92 adults between the ages of 18 and 50 years (divided into two groups) participated in the study. The first group comprised HIV-positive individuals receiving ARV treatment (n1=60), and the second group comprised HIV-negative participants (n2=32). The video head impulse test was used to conduct the head impulse paradigm (HIMP). Results: Bilateral normal HIMP results were obtained in 95% of the HIV-positive participants and all HIV-negative participants. The gain of the left posterior SCCs was significantly lower in the HIV-positive group, while the gains of all other canals between the two groups were comparable. Conclusions: The prevalence of peripheral vestibular impairment in the HIV-positive group was not significantly different from that of the HIV-negative group. The reduced prevalence in the current study may be attributed to participant characteristics, the test battery employed, and the central compensation of the vestibular dysfunctions at the later stages of infection.

  • In this paper, a serial wireless LAN virtual communication module that allows microprocessors to communicate wirelessly with other peripheral devices is developed as part of a study to build an online virtual experiment system that allows them to practice virtually anytime, anywhere in microprocessor application education in electrical and electronic control engineering. The developed module is connected to the microprocessor in the virtual experiment system through serial interface. The serial data is sent to and received from peripheral devices through the wireless LAN interface of the host computer where the virtual experiment software is being performed. In order to verify the function of the developed serial wireless LAN virtual communication module, experiments were conducted in which a microprocessor in the virtual experiment system exchanged data with an Android smartphone through a wireless LAN interface of a host computer. The developed serial wireless LAN communication module is expected to enable virtual microprocessors to communicate with surrounding real devices through wireless LAN, which can be efficiently used in microprocessor application education.

  • This paper presents a electrocardiogram(ECG), electromyogram(EMG), and Photoplethysmography(PPG) signal wireless monitoring system based on Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). ECG and EMG sensor interface analog front-end circuits are designed by using off-the-shelf parts. Texas Instruments(TI)'s CC2540DK is used for BLE-based communication. Two CC2540DK modules are used as Peripheral and Central nodes. In peripheral device, vital signals are acquired by the analog front-ends and fed to ADC for analog-to-digital conversion. The peripheral transmitts the data through the air to the central device. The central device receive the data and sends them to PC using UART. GUI is designed using Labview for displaying the acquired vital signals. The developed system can be used for future ubiquitous wireless healthcare system based on bluetooth 4.0.
