Objectives : To examine the effects of Gojineumja on white rats which deteriorated immunity caused by Methotrexate(MTX), first of all, MTX was fed to the rats once a day for 4 day. Methods : After the immune response of the rats are deteriorated, dried extracts of Gojineumja(GJE) mixed in water was fed to the white rats once a day for l4days. The next conclusion was made by examining the rates of B-cells and T-cells of the peripheral blood and the changes in rates of CD4+ T-cells and CD8+ T -cells of the blood sampled from the spleen and peripheral region. Especially the count of CD3+ CD4+ T-cells of the peripheral blood and the count of CD3+ CD4+ T-cells of the spleen the count of CD4+/ CD8+ T-cell of the peripheral blood and the spleen proved the significant effect of increasing immune responses statistically. Results :(1) The following are the summary of the results. (2) The percentage of B lymphocyte of peripheral blood was increased significantly in GJE group as compared with control group. (3) The percentage of CD3+ CD4+ T-cell of peripheral blood was increased significantly in GJE group as compared with control group. (4) The percentage of CD3+ CD8+ T-cell of peripheral blood was not different statistically. (5) The percentage of CD4+/ CD8+ T-cell of peripheral blood was increased significantly in GJE group as compared with control group. (6) The percentage of CD3+ CD4+ T-cell of spleen was increased significantly in GJE group as compared with control group. (7) The percentage of CD3+ CD8+ T-cell was not different statistically. (8) The percentage of CD4+ /CD8+ T-cell was not different statistically. Conclusions : Gojineumja has an effect of increasing immune responses on white rats with deteriorated immunity caused by MTX.
Peripheral nerves may be affected or injured for several reasons. Peripheral nerve damage can result from trauma, surgery, anatomical abnormalities, entrapment, systemic diseases, or iatrogenic injuries. Trauma and iatrogenic injuries are the most common causes. The ulnar, median, and radial nerves are the most injured nerves in the upper extremities, while the sciatic and peroneal nerves are the most injured nerves in the lower extremities. The clinical symptoms of peripheral nerve damage include pain, weakness, numbness/ tingling, and paresthesia. Therefore, early diagnosis and appropriate treatment of peripheral nerve injuries are crucial. If a peripheral nerve injury is left untreated, it can lead to severe complications and significant morbidity. The sciatic nerve is one of the most affected nerves. This nerve is generally injured by trauma and iatrogenic causes. Children are more susceptible to trauma than adults. Therefore, sciatic nerve injuries are observed in pediatric patients. When the sciatic nerve is damaged, pain, weakness, sensory loss, and gait disturbances can occur. Therefore, the diagnosis and treatment of sciatic nerve injuries are important to avoid unexpected consequences. Ultrasound can play an important role in the diagnosis of peripheral nerve injury and the follow-up of patients. The aim of this case report is twofold. First, we aimed to emphasize the critical role of ultrasonographic evaluation in the diagnosis of peripheral nerve injuries and pathologies. Second, we aimed to present this case, which has distinguishing features, such as the existence of periostitis ossificans progressiva with sciatic neurotmesis due to a traumatic glass injury.
Objectives : This study was to compare the effect of moxibustion therapy on peripheral facial para- lysis according to location of acupoint. Methods : We investigated 41 cases of inpatients with Peripheral Facial Paralysis, and divided them into two groups, One group was treated by moxibustion on local point(ML), and the other was treated by moxibustion on distant point(MD). We evaluated the effect of moxibustion in each group by using Gross Grading System of House-Brackmann(HB score) and Yanagihara's Unweighed Grading System(Y score). Results : 1. In ML and MD, compared with baseline, at final, HB score was significantly decreased and Y score was significantly increased. 2. At final, ML showed significant decrease on HB score and significant increase on Y score compared with MD. Conclusions : These results suggested that ML should be more useful for improving symptoms related with peripheral facial paralysis than MD.
Objectives : This study was designed to evaluate the effect of Soyeom Pharmacopuncture on postauricular pain accompanied acute peripheral facial paralysis. Methods : We observed thirty peripheral facial palsy inpatients with postauricular pain at Cheonan oriental hospital of Daejeon university from Jan. 1st, 2009 to July 31th, 2009. These inpatients were divided into two groups; Group A was treated using general treatment and Group B was treated using general treatment and Soyeom Pharmacopuncture on the posterior ear area. Results : 1. Postauricular pain was significantly decreased in Group B. 2. Duration of postauricular pain was significantly reduced in Group B. 3. Improvement of facial paralysis was not significantly different between Group A and Group B. Conclusions : Soyeom Pharmacopuncture has significant effects on a postauricular pain accompanied with peripheral facial paralysis.
Objectives : This study was to evaluate the influence of dysgeusia on prognosis of peripheral facial paralysis. Methods: We investigated 40 cases of patients with Peripheral Facial Paralysis, and classified them as existence of dysgeusia. we evaluated the treatment effect of each group by using Gross Grading System of House-Brackmann, Yanagihara's Unweighed Grading System before treatment and after final treatment. Results: 1. Postauricular pain showed the highest frequency in symptoms at onset. 2. As a result of evaluation by using Gross Grading System of House-Brackmann, Yanagihara's Unweighed Grading System, treatment score after final treatment was marked higher than that before treatment within each group. 3. After final treatment, non-dysgeusia group showed signficant difference on Gross Grading System of House-Brackmann, Yanagihara's Unweighed Grading System compared with dysgeusia group. Conclusions: These results suggested that non-dysgeusia group should be get better than dysgeusia group in the patient with peripheral facial paralysis.
Objectives : This study was to investigate the effectiveness of cupping therapy on peripheral facial paralysis. Methods : We investigated 39 cases of patients with peripheral facial paralysis, and devided patients into two groups : We treated one group by complex oriental medical treatment with cupping therapy, and did the other group by complex oriental medical treatment without cupping therapy. To evaluate the effectiveness of treatment applied for two groups, we used gross grading system of House-Brackmann(HB score), Yanagihara's unweighed grading system(Y score) at baseline and final. Results : 1. In cupping group and non-cupping group, compared with baseline, at final, HB score was significantly decreased and Y score was significantly increased. 2. At final, cupping group showed significant decrease on HB score and significant increase on Y score compared with non-cupping group. Conclusions : Cupping therapy can be available for relieving symptoms related with peripheral facial paralysis.
Objectives : The aim of this study was to observe the effect of Needle-embedding therapy on sequelae of peripheral facial palsy. Methods : 27 patients with sequelae of peripheral facial palsy were treated with Needle-embedding therapy. Yanagihara score, number of symptoms, symptoms score were compared between before and after treatment to evaluate the effect of Needle-embedding therapy. Results : After treatment, Yanagihara score, number of symptoms, symptom score were significantly decreased(p<0.05). Conclusions : Needle-embedding therapy could be effective to improve symptoms of sequelae of peripheral facial palsy patients.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report that ENoG may be used for concluding prognosis of peripheral facial palsy. Methods : The House-Brackmann facial grading scale of face was taken at onset and 3weeks after oriental medical treatment. The ENoG of face was taken at 1week after or before of onset. I compared the House-Brackmann facial grading scale with ENoG. Results Conclusions : I analyzed a relation of House-Brackmann facial grading scale and ENoG. I guess that ENoG may be used for concluding prognosis of peripheral facial palsy. But further studies are requred for concluding prognosis of peripheral facial palsy by ENoG.
Sho-Seiryu-To is known to be effective against allergic diseases, but its effect on skin itching has not been reported. We observed the effect of Sho-Seiryu-To on three elderly patients who, desoite using an anti-allergic drug, has severe chronic skin itching with peripheral eosinophilia. All three patients decreased their peripheral eosinophilia and improved their skin condition within eight weeks. We conclude that Sho-Seiryu-To could be capable of treating elderly patients with chronic skin itching and peripheral eosinophilia.
Objectives : This study was done for reporting the effect of scratching method on patients with peripheral facial palsy. Methods : We investigated 34 cases of patients with peripheral facial paralysis, and devided patients into two groups : We treated one group by complex oriental medical treatment with scratching method therapy, and did the other group by complex oriental medical treatment without scratching method therapy. gross grading system of House-Brackmann(HB score) and Yanagihara's unweighed grading system(Y score) at baseline and final were used for evaluating the effect of the treatment. Results : 1. In scratching method group and non-scratching method group, compared with baseline, at final, HB score was significantly decreased and Y score was significantly increased. 2. At final, scratching method group showed significant decrease on HB score and significant increase on Y score compared with non-scratching method group. Conclusions : scratching method showed significant improvement in peripheral facial palsy.
