Three Pressure type wave gauges were installed for about 10 days for the analysis of long wave agitations in Mukho Harbor. Helmholtz and second resonant periods of seiche in Mukho Harbor are shown to be approximately 10.0-14.3 and 3.3 minutes from the spectral analysis of measured wave data. Amplification ratio at Helmholtz period reaches about 6.8 and the wave amplitudes in the harbor were in the range of 5-10 cm during the measurement period. Helmholtz and second resonant periods of seiche in Mukho Harbor agree very well with those computed using Jeong dt al. (1993b)'s model. The model gives rise to the first and third resonant peaks at 7.5 and 1.9 minutes, respectively.
From the short-period variability survey (SPVS), we obtained time-series BV CCD images in the region of an open cluster M50 (NGC 2323) for 10 nights from 2008 February 9 to 27. The observation was performed using a small refracting telescope (${\phi}$=155mm, f=1050mm) in Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory (BOAO). M50 is included in the observing field of ASAS (The All Sky Automated Survey). In the region of M50, we found 8 new variable stars including two ${\delta}$ Scuti stars with short-periods and very small amplitudes. There are known nine variable stars by the catalogues of ASAS and GCVS in the region. We confirmed the variability of the known variable stars for six and non-variability for three.

The electrochemical spike oscillations at the nickel (Ni) electrode/(0.05M KHC$_{8}$H$_{4}$O$_{4}$) buffer solution (pH 9) interface have been studied using voltammetric and chronoamperometric methods. The nature of the periodic cathodic current spikes is the activation controlled currents due to the hydrogen evolution reaction and depends onthe fractioanl surface coverage of the adsorbed hydrogen intermediate or the cathodic potential. There is two kinds of the waveforms corresponding to two kinds of the cathodic current spike oscillations. The widths, periods, and amplitudes of the cathodic current spikes are 4 ms or 5ms, 151 ms or 302 ms, and < 30 mA or < 275 mA, respectively. The fast discharge and recombination reaction steps are 1.5 times and twice and faster than the slow discharge and recombination reaction steps. The fast and slow discharge and recombination reaction steps are 1.5 times and twice faster than the slow discharge and recombination reaction steps. The fast and slow discharge and recombination reactions corresponding to the fast and slow adsorption sites at the Ni cathode.
We present the preliminary results obtained from the search of variable stars in the fields of open clusters located in the direction of the Galactic disk. The current study is based on J, H and Ks photometric data obtained in the near-infrared (NIR) VVV Survey. A first classification of the newly found variable stars is performed based on their light curves, periods and amplitudes. We also show the (Ks, J-Ks) color-magnitud decontaminated diagrams of the selected open clusters and examine the location of the variable stars in these diagrams. Available proper motion data are also used to analyze the possible membership of the discovered variable stars to the corresponding clusters, as well as to redetermine with more accuracy the parameters of the poorly studied clusters.
The amplitudes and periods of wind-driven, surface gravity waves in the Yellow Sea, were calculated using the SMB hindcasting method. Bottom orbital velocities and bottom shear stresses were then calculated on the basis of linear wave theory and Kajiura's (1968) turbulent oscillating boundary layer analyses. These calculations were made for northwesterly and southwesterly winds with a steady speed of 40 knots. The numerical results show that the wide offshore areas along the western Korean Peninsula are persistently subjected to the strong wave action and bottom shear stresses produced by the prevailing winds.

In the present the mean temperature and the temperature fluctuation of non-isothermal parallel liquid sodium jets were measured and analyzed changing the temperature difference and mean velocity of the hot and cold sodium. The sampling frequency and sampling time were 420Hz and three seconds, respectively. The wave-form characteristics were discussed in regard to the peak-to-peak amplitudes and the periods provided by a wave analysis. And also the correlations of the temperature fluctuation in rms value and the peak amplitude are derived. The overall mean accuracy ratios of the correlations are 1.07 and 1.08 with a standard deviation of 0.17 and 0.15, respectively.
Objective: Non-specific chronic low back pain (NS-CLBP) has been related to abnormal trunk muscle activations, but literature reported considerable variability in muscle amplitudes of NS-CLBP patients during prolonged sitting periods. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the differences among homogenous NS-CLBP subgroups in muscle activity, using muscle co-contraction indices as a more objective approach, and their roles on pain development during a 1-hour period of prolonged sitting. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Twenty NS-CLBP subjects with motor control impairment (MCI) [10 classified as having flexion pattern disorder, and 10 with active extension pattern disorder], and 10 healthy controls participated in the study. Subjects followed a 1-hour sitting protocol on a standard office chair. Four trunk muscle activities including amplitudes and co-contraction indices were recorded using electromyography over the 1-hour period. Perceived back pain intensity was recorded using a numeric pain rating scale every 10 minutes throughout the sitting period. Results: All study groups presented with no significantly distinctive trunk muscle activities at the beginning of sitting, nor did they change over time when pain increased to a significant level. Both MCI subgroups reported a similarly significant increase in pain behavior through mid-sitting (p<0.001). However, after mid-sitting, they significantly differed from each other in pain (p<0.01) but did not differ in the levels of muscle activation. Conclusions: This study was the first to highlight the similarities in trunk muscle activities among homogenous NS-CLBP patients related to MCI and compared them to healthy controls while sitting for an extended period of time, and the significant increase in pain over the 1-hour sitting might not be attributed to trunk muscle activation.

Seawater has been used to cool devices in nuclear power plants. However, the pipes used to transport seawater are vulnerable to corrosion; hence, the inner side of pipelines is coated with an epoxy layer as prevention. Upon coating damage, the pipe becomes exposed, and corrosion progresses. The major cause is widely known as cavitation corrosion, causing the degradation of mechanical properties. In this study, corroded specimens were prepared using cavitation and immersion methods to clarify the degradation trend of mechanical properties with corrosion. Three different types of epoxy coatings were used, and accelerated cavitation procedures were composed of amplitudes of 15 ㎛, 50 ㎛, and 85 ㎛ for 2 h, 4 h, and 6 h. The immersion periods were 3 and 6 weeks. We conducted instrumented indentation tests on all degradation samples to measure mechanical properties. The results showed that higher cavitation amplitudes and longer cavitation or immersion times led to more degradation in the samples, which, in turn, decreased the yield strength. Of the three samples, the C coating had the highest resistance to cavitation and immersion degradation.

In order to identify the change of tidal characteristics on average in the Asan Bay due to the construction of the Hwaong (Namyang Bay) tidal barrier (HTB), the tide data at Pyongtack (PT) and Anheung (AH) for the periods from 1993 to 2006 were analyzed using the harmonic analysis method, and major and shallow water tidal constituents were compared. The semidiurnal tidal amplitudes at PT increased while those at AH decreased after the tidal barrier construction. In particular, the amplitudes at PT increased abruptly during the period of $2002{\sim}2003$ when HTB was completed. On the other hand, the amplitudes of the diurnal tides at PT and AH showed minimal change. This suggests that the tidal characteristics change in the Asan Bay may be related to the construction of HTB. The cause of this change is different from either blocking the tidal wave propagation by the Keum River tidal barrier or removing 'choking effect' by the Yeongsan River tidal barrier. The $M_4/M_2$ ratio increased and their phase difference decreased after the completion of HTB. Accordingly, these changes may result in increase of tidal range, decrease of the flood duration and increase of the flood current velocity, inducing more sediments into the Asan Bay.

Using the MHD coronal seismology technique, we estimated the magnetic field for three spicules observed in 2008 June. For this study, we used the high resolution Ca II H line ($3968.5\;{\AA}$) images observed by the Hinode SOT and considered a vertical thin flux tube as a spicule model. To our knowledge, this is the first attempt to estimate the spicule magnetic field using the Hinode observation. From the observed oscillation properties, we determined the periods, amplitudes, minimum wavelengths, and wave speeds. We interpreted the observed oscillations as MHD kink waves propagating through a vertical thin flux tube embedded in a uniform field environment. Then we estimated spicule magnetic field assuming spicule densities. Major results from this study are as follows : (1) we observed three oscillating spicules having durations of 5-7 minutes, oscillating periods of 2-3 minutes, and transverse displacements of 700-1000 km. (2) The estimated magnetic field in spicules is about 10-18 G for lower density limit and about 43-76 G for upper density limit. (3) In this analysis, we can estimate the minimum wavelength of the oscillations, such as 60000 km, 56000 km, and 45000 km. This may be due to the much longer wavelength comparing with the height of spicules. (4) In the first event occurred on 2008 June 03, the oscillation existed during limited time (about 250 s). This means that the oscillation may be triggered by an impulsive mechanism (like low atmospheric reconnection), not continuous. Being compared with the ground-based observations of spicule oscillations, our observation indicates quite different one, i.e., more than one order longer in wavelength, a factor of 3-4 larger in wave speed, and 2-3 times longer in period.
