  • When 60Hz AC voltage supplied to a falty insulator, Radiated EM wave has characterized time distribution with the arrived periodicity. For classifying distribution feature, receiving frequency and bandwidth of radiated wave be experimented and determined. Since the spectrum of the radiated wave has broad bandwidth and time-variable statistics, the receiving quality is determined receiving bandwidth that has above 900kHz.

  • This paper is presented to short-term load forecast algorithm using weekday change ratio. The week periodicity was excluded from weekday change ratio. That was composed with the power demand forecast term of five and multiple regression model of the three form. The precision was good with 2.8[%]. Also the power demand of special day(weekend) of completely difficult forecast case of using the multiple regression model was able to forecast at this paper. Therefore, the forecast precision was enhanced and the reliable forecast model was constructed.

Control of an underwater biomimetic vehicle using Floquet theory

  • Aqua is an underwater biomimetic vehicle designed and built at McGill University that uses six paddles to produce control and propulsion forces. It has the particularity of having time-periodic thrust due to its oscillating paddles. Using an existing model of the vehicle, two types of controller were developed: a PD controller and a Floquet controller. The Floquet controller has the advantage of explicitly addressing the time-periodicity of the system. The performance of the controllers was assessed through simulation and experimentally in the Caribbean Sea. We find that the vehicle was able to follow the prescribed trajectories with relative accuracy using both controllers, though, the Floquet controller slightly outperforms the PD controller. Furthermore, a key advantage of the Floquet controller is that it requires no tuning while the PD controller had to be tuned by trial and error.

Prediction of Effective Material Properties for Triaxially Braided Textile Composite

  • In this study, finite element modeling was used to predict the material properties of tri-axially braided textile composite. The model was made based on an experimental test specimen which was also used to compare the final results. The full interlacing of tows was geometrically modelled, from which repeating parts that make up the whole braid called unit cells were identified based on the geometric and mechanical property periodicity. In order to simulate the repeating nature of the unit cell, periodic boundary conditions were applied. For validation of the method, a reference model was analyzed for which a very good agreement was obtained. Material property calculation was done by simulating uniaxial and pure shear tests on the unit cell. The comparison of these results with that of experimental test results showed an excellent agreement. Finally, parametric study on the effect of number of plies, stacking type (symmetric/anti-symmetric) and stacking phase shift was conducted.

Latitudinal Distribution of Sunspots Revisited

  • Characteristics of latitude variations of sunspots in the northern and southern hemispheres are investigated using the daily sunspot area and its latitude during the period from 1874 to 2009. Solar magnetic activity is portrayed in the form of sunspot, regions of concentrated fresh magnetic fields observed on the surface of the Sun. By defining center-of-latitude (COL) as an area-weighted latitude, we find that COL is not monotonically decreasing as commonly assumed. In fact, small humps (or short plateaus) between solar minima can be seen around every solar maxima. We also find that when the northern (southern) hemisphere is magnetically dominant, COL is positive (negative), except the solar cycle 23, which may give a hint that these two phenomena are consistently regulated by one single mechanism. As a result of periodicity analysis, we find that several significant periodicities, such as, of ~5.5, ~11, ~49, and ~167 years.

  • 분산 시스템에서 부하 균형의 목적은 한 프로세서로부터 다른 프로세서로 적절히 전송함으로서 전체 시스템의 성능을 향상시키는 것이다. 본 논문에서는 수행 주기성과 탐색 한계를 이용한 제한된 부하균형 기법을 제안하였다. 본 알고리즘은 시스템에 있는 각 노드의 최신 상태를 기록하기 위해 탐색 과정에서 수집된 정보를 사용한다. 이러한 정보는 판단할 수 있어 무차별하게 탐색하는 것을 방지한다. 시뮬레이션 결과, 제안한 주기성 부하균형 알고리즘은 평균응답시간을 단축시킨다는 것과 성능이 수행 주기에 의존함을 발견하였다. 따라서, 훌륭한 수행 주기는 낮은 평균 응답시간과 부하 이주를 위한 적당한 노드가 존재한다면 그 노드를 발견할 높은 확률을 제공한다는 결론을 내렸다.

  • This paper is presented the method peak load forecast based on multiple regression Model. Forecasting model was composed with the temperature-humidity and the discomfort index. Also the week periodicity was excluded from weekday change coefficient of two types. Forecasting result was good with about 3[%]. And, utility of presented forecast model using statistical tests has been proved. Therefore, This results establish appropriateness and fitness of forecast models using peak power demand forecasting.

  • The aim of this paper is to investigate the dynamical behavior of the difference equation $$x_{n+1}={\frac{{\alpha}x_n}{{\beta}+{\gamma}x^p_{n-1}x^q_{n-2}}},\;n=0,1,{\ldots}$$, where the parameters ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$, ${\gamma}$, p, q are non-negative numbers and the initial values $x_{-2}$, $x_{-1}$, $x_0$ are positive numbers. Also, some numerical examples are given to verify our theoretical results.

External Optical Modulator Using a Low-cost Fabry-Perot LD for Multicasting in a WDM-PON

  • An external optical modulation using absorption s in a Fabry-Perot laser diode (FP-LD), has been proposed and experimentally demonstrated for multicasting in a WDM-PON. The center wavelengths of absorption s in an FP-LD move to short-wavelength rapidly by only a small current (~1 mA) injection. If the current injection is stopped, the s move back to the original position. Such a movement of the s can make the FP-LD act as an external optical modulator, which is found to modulate at a maximum modulation speed of 800 Mbps or more. For a multicasting transmitter in a WDM-PON, the proposed modulator can be cost-effectively applied to a multi-wavelength laser source with the same periodicity of the longitudinal mode. Instead of the multi-wavelength laser source, tunable-LDs are used for experiments. The 32 channel multicasting system with the proposed modulator has been demonstrated, showing power penalties of 1.53~4.15 dB at a bit error rate of $10^{-9}$ with extinction ratios better than 14.5 dB at 622 Mbps.
