  • This study evaluated the impedance characteristics of earth termination system and developed a variable frequency-typed inverter (measuring tool) for the utilization in ground design for lightning protection. The variable-frequency-typed inverter were composed of rectification part, voltage adjuster, IGBT controller and measuring part. Meanwhile, the square wave signal of variable frequency converted its frequency up to lightning surge band by using an IGBT after rectifying an alternating current (AC). It conducted performance evaluation of ground impedance of actual earth termination system by using the developed measuring tool for ground impedance and confirmed that such impedance-oriented performance evaluation was effective in the design of lightning protection.

  • An agent is an abstract unit for problem solving in the field of distributed artificial intelligence, and an agent-based system is designed and implemented based on the definition of agent as its central concept. Agent modeling is advantageous to abstraction, disintegration and structuring for describing complex system, so its application is increased in various areas including air traffic control, power transmission, e-commerce and medicine. There is no agreed definition of agent but agents have common points as follows: autonomy, reactivity, pro-activeness and cooperation. An agent-oriented modeling is an approach of a concept different form existing object-oriented modeling. This study proposed the agent application for E-Beam manufacturing system. To evaluate the performance of the proposed process design, we used the JADE library. The JADE toolkit provides a FIPA-compliant agent platform and a package to develp Java agents. It provides a basic set of functionalities that are regarded as essential for an autonomous agent architecture.

  • In this paper, we present an object-oriented stereotactic radiosurgery planning system, which accepts medical images such as CT and angiography, transforms the coordinates to a reference frame coordinate, calculates dose distributions, and finally displays isodose curves over the images. The user finds an adequate one for radiosurgeries after performing computer simulations on different treatment parameter sets. The object-oriented design concept was fully applied to the system composed of seven manager objects of different classes: a patient information manager, a user-interface manager, a coordinate transformation manager, a blackboard manager, a dose calculation manager, an isodose curve display manager, and a report manager. All the user interactions are carried out through the use of mouse buttons. The performance of the system was verified by four physicians and two medical physicists, and now is being used in two clinical sites.

  • Aspect-Oriented Software Development is new software development method. It has many advantages related to software performance, maintenance and repair. Also it offers modularization method to a existing programming language for secondary function such as security and fault tolerance. But the present problem is that we have to use new aspect-oriented programming language. Further more when we apply Aspect to legacy system, we have to recompile the source code in order to build software system based on AOSD. In this paper, we propose and design Connector that can be composed with Aspect in legacy system dynamically. To elaborate this work, we use the information of operations about Core and Aspect, and the information of pointcut described with XML. We validate that the proposed Connector has features such as no need of new compiler, no recompilation and no modification of legacy system through case study.

  • The touch down zone (TDZ) and top connection point of the vessel are most critical part of fatigue damage in the steel catenary riser (SCR). In general, the linear soil model has been used to evaluate fatigue performance of SCRs because it gives conservative results in the TDZ. However, the conservative linear soil model shows the limitation to accommodate real behavior in the TDZ as water depth is increased. Therefore, the riser behavior on soft clay seabed is investigated using a nonlinear soil model through time domain approach in this study. The numerical analysis considering various important parameters of the nonlinear soil model such as shear strength at mudline, shear strength gradient and suction resistance force is conducted to check the adoptability and applicability of nonlinear soil model for SCR design.

  • The objective of this study is to identify the impacts of communication reinforcement on performance of learning in Web-PBL. Communication reinforcement is defined as the combination of information sharing and co-construction. As factors facilitating communication reinforcement, we propose learner's characteristics, task characteristics, and group characteristics. Learner's characteristics are collaboration-orientation, openness, holistic approach, and online community-orientation which reflects e-learning environment. Collaboration-oriented tasks as group projects were developed and given to groups with 5-6 members. The group characteristics are categorized into 'horizontal' and 'vertical', according to the patterns of communication between a group leader and members. To verify empirically the proposed research model, an experimental design was performed to learners who took on-line and off-line courses with group projects. We found important results as follows; First, field dependence has positive impacts on information sharing, and online community-orientation has positive impacts on co-construction. These results correspond with prior studies on relationship between field dependence and collaborative learning. Second, collaboration-oriented task directly impacts on information sharing, and indirectly affects co-construction, This result implicates that information sharing is pre-requisite of co-construction. Third, 'horizontal' was identified as a factor giving positive effects on information sharing and co-construction. This result implies that horizontal communication is very important to facilitate communication reinforcement.

  • In this study, we introduce the pedestrian detection system by using the feature of HOG-PCA and RBFNNs pattern classifier. HOG(Histogram of Oriented Gradient) feature is extracted from input image to identify and recognize a object. And a dimension is reduced for improving performance as well as processing speed by using PCA which is a typical dimensional reduction algorithm. So, the feature of HOG-PCA through the dimensional reduction by using PCA leads to the improvement of the detection rate. FCM clustering algorithm is used instead of gaussian function to apply the characteristic of input data as well and connection weight is used by polynomial expression such as constant, linear, quadratic and modified quadratic. Finally, INRIA person database known as one of the benchmark dataset used for pedestrian detection is applied for the performance evaluation of the proposed classifier. The experimental result of the proposed classifier are compared with those studied by Dalal.

  • The dynamic cast operation allows flexibility in the design and use of data management facilities in object-oriented programs. Dynamic cast has an important role in the implementation of the Data Management Services (DMS) of the Mission Data System Project (MDS), the Jet Propulsion Laboratory's experimental work for providing a state-based and goal-oriented unified architecture for testing and development of mission software. DMS is responsible for the storage and transport of control and scientific data in a remote autonomous spacecraft. Like similar operators in other languages, the C++ dynamic cast operator does not provide the timing guarantees needed for hard real-time embedded systems. In a recent study, Gibbs and Stroustrup (G&S) devised a dynamic cast implementation strategy that guarantees fast constant-time performance. This paper presents the definition and application of a cosimulation framework to formally verify and evaluate the G&S fast dynamic casting scheme and its applicability in the Mission Data System DMS application. We describe the systematic process of model-based simulation and analysis that has led to performance improvement of the G&S algorithm's heuristics by about a factor of 2. In this work we introduce and apply a library for extracting semantic information from C++ source code that helps us deliver a practical and verifiable implementation of the fast dynamic casting algorithm.

  • The purpose of this study is to establish effective quality control activities to maintain proper operation rates and improve the performance of research and development weapon systems. Quality control improvement measures suitable for the actual conditions of our military were identified by comparing the operational methods and advantages/disadvantages of the domestic quality control systems Defense Quality Management System and Defense Quality mark with those of the systems employed in the US(QPL and QML). In order to ensure the reliability of the weapon system, it is imperative to operate a design-oriented self-quality management system through manufacturing-oriented government-led inspection and to expand and reorganize the certification system divided into manufacturing items and companies.
