  • A performance specification states requirements in terms of the required results, such as performance, environment and interchangeability, but without stating the methods for achieving the required results, such as material and process. therefore the performance specification is applied to attain economic efficiency and high reliability by using the advanced commercial Technology for the weapon systems and The development of performance specification and conversion into performance specification have been activated in the advanced nations. The Ministry of National Defence of Korea has regulated the specification to make performance type in developing specification and prepared performance specification guide. but the result of the development of and conversion into performance specification is very unsatisfactory, To efficiently develop and convert into performance specification, this study gives the way of market research, the creation of the performance specification from development of weapon system and part localization, the process and method for conversion of detail specification into performance specification, the use of hybrid type of performance and detail specification.

  • The most design criteria and specifications in Korea utilized to ensure appropriate quality are based on process and prescriptive criteria determining materials, measure and methods. It has many problems including a loss of competitiveness resulting from inhibited creativity of the contractors. The performance-based specifications focused on final product are being proposed, but have difficulty in adapting to the architectural field. In this study the hybrid specification prototype for curtain wall construction was suggested. The specification framework was presented through analysis of linkage between the performance and prescriptive specification cases. Based on the survey with practitioners, the performance inspection process and the sample specification were developed by identifying the essential performance test timings. The applicability of the specification prototype was evaluated by interviews with experts. It was found that the prototype was active and a progressive supporting tool which could support to secure phased performance during construction as well as final performance.

  • One of the major issues in the material-based or acceptance quality characteristics asphalt pavement Quality Assurance (QA) is that the method does not have rationality to link between the individual materials and the projected performance of the pavement. A new asphalt mix QA method has been recently developed under a national research project using the probabilistic Performance Related Specification (PRS). This advanced PRS QA methodology integrates the AASHTOWare Pavement ME Design$^{(R)}$ technology with the simple performance test concept that bridges the material characteristics with the pavement performance. This paper presents a case study of asphalt pavement performance using the developed PRS QA computer program, named Quality Related Specification Software (QRSS), with an actual pavement project, to demonstrate the developed PRS procedure and to assess the robustness of QRSS in terms of the rationality of the distress predictions. The results of this limited case study show that the new PRS QA method reasonably predicts the pavement performance, properly applied the probabilistic methods, and produced rational pay adjustment.

  • Performance specifications leave out unnesessary “how to” or detail and give the manufacturer latitude to determine how to best meet our stated needs. This will increase MND's access to commercial, state-of-the-art technology. However, we find that it is too early to expand the use of performance specification due to the poor domestic infrastructure. To expand the use of performance specification in defense area, this paper suggests the basic principles about which items we should select and which procedeure we should follow.

  • In the current pavement construction practice, the state agencies traditionally determine the quality of the as-constructed pavement mix based on individual mixture material parameters (e.g., air voids, cement or asphalt content, aggregate gradation, etc.) and consider these parameters as key variables to influence payment schedule to the contractors and the present and future quality of the as-constructed mixture. A set of empirically pre-determined pay adjustment schedule for each parameter that was differently developed and being used by the individual agencies is then applied to a given project, in order to judge whether each parameter conforms to the designated specifications and consequently the contractor may either be rewarded or penalized in accordance with the payment schedule. With an improved quality assurance system, the Performance Related Specification, the individual parameters are not utilized as a direct judgment factor; rather, they become independent variables within a performance prediction function which is directly used to predict the performance. The quantified performance based on the prediction model is then applied to evaluate the pavement quality. This paper presents the brief history of the quality assurance in asphalt pavement construction including the Performance Related Specifications, statistical performance models in terms of fatigue and rutting distresses, as an example of the performance prediction models, and envisions the possibilities as to how this Performance Related Specification could be utilized in other infrastructures construction quality assurance.

  • In a role based access control through attribute certificate, the use of role assignment certificates and role specification certificates can reduce management cost and the overhead incurred by changing roles, Highly distributed computing environments such as ubiquitous computing environments not having global or broad control. need another attribute certificate management technique, Actually just having role specification certificate separately reduce management cost, But for better performance we structure role specification, We group roles and make the role group relation tree, It results secure and efficient role renewing and distribution, For scalable role specification certificate distribution, the multicasting of packets is used, We take into account the packet lass and quantify performance enhancements of structuring role specification certificates.

  • ILSAC GF 3/API SL specification will be adopted in July 2001. The background and characteristics of GF3 specification is reviewed. GF3 specification consists of five new engine tests, two new bench tests and new limits on three bench tests currently used to define ILSAC GF-2. GF 3 engine oil shows good performance compared to GF2 engine oil in fuel efficiency, protecting ability the emission catalyst and high temperature oxidation stability.

  • Light rail vehicle is optimized vehicle system for complex urban circumstance. LRT systems have many merits such as improve accuracy, speediness and safety. There are many LRT systems such as monorail, tram, automated guideway transit, linear induction motor propulsion and so on. These systems have operated in Japan and other advanced countries. In Korea, local government has many projects to apply the advanced LRT system. But there are no standardized specification, performance test specification, construction specification for monorail system, linear induction motor propulsion system, tram in Korea up to now. So, we need to establish of standardized to economical construction and safety. The linear induction motor system has been usually applied in Japan subway and ART(Advanced Rapid Transit) of Canada. In Korea, the linear induction motor system has been adopted for Yongin LRT and currently under construction. This paper covers the contents and technical base for main items of rolling stock, performance standard, carbody structure, bogie, electronic unit and brake equipment in order to implement linear induction motor LRT system according to local conditions.

  • Zeigler's DEVS(Discrete Event Systems Specification) formalism supports formal specification of discrete event systems in a hierarchical , modular manner. Associated are hierarchical, distributed simulation algorithms, called abstract simulators, which interpret dynamics of DEVS models. This paper deals with performance evaluation of P-DEVSIM ++, a parallel simulation environment which implements the DEVS formalism and associated simulation algorithms in a parallel environment. Performance simulator has been developed and used to experiment models of parallel simulation executions in different conditions. The experimental result shows that simulation time depends on both the number of processors in the parallel system and the communication overheads among such processors.
