  • This study is to search an optimal model on causal relationships of the motivations to learn and motivation strategy in chemistry education. The participants in this study are consisted of G and I high schools students (487) in Gwangju. They all answered to the questionnaire. Model I is hypothesized to be path model of the mediation between 'self-efficacy, achievement need, and entity theory of intelligence' and 'learning strategy and self-handicapping tendency of motivation strategy' by goal orientation to explore variables of study effecting the motivation strategy. And Model II is hypothesized path model of the mediation between goal orientation and 'learning strategy and self-handicapping tendency' by 'self-efficacy, achievement need, and entity theory' to explore variables of study effecting the motivation strategy. Based on these models, structural equation modeling techniques are used to evaluate for the path model among goal orientation(learning, performance approach, and performance approach goal orientation), self-efficacy, achievement need, entity theory of intelligence, self-handicapping tendency, and learning strategy in chemistry education. As the results, Model II is considered. Goodness-of-fit indexes of this model related modification models are identified and analyzed in phases.   • Simulation output knowledge analysis is one of problem-solving and/or knowledge adquistion process by investgating the system behavior under study through simulation . This paper describes an approach to simulation outputknowldege analysis using fuzzy neural network model. A fuzzy neral network model is designed with fuzzy setsand membership functions for variables of simulation model. The relationship between input parameters and output performances of simulation model is captured as system behavior knowlege in a fuzzy neural networkmodel by training examples form simulation exepreiments. Backpropagation learning algorithms is used to encode the knowledge. The knowledge is utilized to solve problem through simulation such as system performance prodiction and goal-directed analysis. For explicit knowledge acquisition, production rules are extracted from the implicit neural network knowledge. These rules may assit in explaining the simulation results and providing knowledge base for an expert system. This approach thus enablesboth symbolic and numeric reasoning to solve problem througth simulation . We applied this approach to the design problem of broadband communication network.

  • This paper presents a goal-oriented test data generation technique that specializes concolic testing. The proposed technique, referred to as GCT (Goal-oriented Concolic Testing) produces test inputs which execute a specific target. Concolic testing can be seen as the brute force approach to search the space of all possible paths until a required test input is found. In contrast, GCT restricts the number of program paths that are explored by using data flow information to identify statements that should be executed beforehand in order for the target to be executed. We conducted experiments to evaluate the performance of GCT with programs with flag variables to show its effectiveness.

  • This study aimed to analyse the mediating effects of learning attitudes in respect to the correlation between achievement goal orientation and learning flow. For the purpose, this study surveyed achievement goal orientation, learning flow and learning attitude of beauty specialized high school students located in Jeonnam with the use of a questionnaire. 335 copies of the answers were analysed with the use of the SPSS(PASW, ver 21.0). The results are presented as follows: Mastery approach of the achievement goal orientation and learning attitude had a significant effect on learning flow. It was discovered that learning attitude had a partial effect on the relations between mastery approach and learning flow, but it was reported that it had a complete mediating effect on the relations between performance avoidance and learning flow.

  • This research exercise was undertaken in order to examine whether academic achievement, academic attitudes, achievement goals, and family process had an influence on beliefs about intellectual ability. The subjects were 434 junior-high school students in Seoul and Incheon. The results of this study indicated that 162 students with incremental beliefs had higher scores in all five sub-factors of academic attitudes, two sub-factors in their achievement goals (namely their mastery goals and approach performance goals), and four sub-factors of family process (closeness, monitoring, communication, and approval) than 155 students with entity beliefs. The results of the binary logistic regression analysis revealed that academic self-perceptions, attitudes towards teachers, goal values, approach performance goals, closeness, and communication factors significantly affected beliefs about intellectual ability.

  • Games such as sports, RTS, RPG, which teams of players play, require advanced artificial intelligence technology for team management. The existing artificial intelligence enables an intelligent agent to have the autonomy solving problem by itself, but to lack interaction and cooperation between agents. This paper presents "Level Unified Approach Method" with effective role allocation and autonomy in multiagent system. This method allots sub-goals to agents using role information to accomplish a global goal. Each agent makes a decision and takes actions by itself in dynamic environments. Global goal of Team coordinates to allocated role in tactics approach. Each agent leads interactive cooperation by sharing state information with another using Databoard, As each agent has planning capacity, an agent takes appropriate actions for playing allocated roles in dynamic environments. This cooperation and interactive operation between agents causes a collision problem, so it approaches at tactics side for controlling this problem. Our experimental result shows that "Level Unified Approach Method" has better performance than existing rental approach method or de-centralized approach method.

Investigating Factors Affecting Automated Question Triage for Social Reference: A Study of Adopting Decision Factors from Digital Reference

  • The efficiency and quality of the social reference sites are being challenged because a large quantity of the questions have not been answered or satisfied for quite a long time. Main goal of this study is to investigate important factors that affect the performance of question triage to relevant answerers in the context of social reference. To achieve the goal, expert finding techniques were used to construct an automated question triage approach to resolve this problem. Furthermore, important factors affecting triage decisions in digital reference were first examined, and extended them to the social reference setting by investigating important factors affecting the performance of automated question triage in the social reference setting. The study was conducted using question-answer pairs collected from Ask Metafilter. For the evaluation, logistic regression analyses were conducted to examine which factors would significantly affect the performance of predicting relevant answerers to questions. The results of the current study have important implications for research and practice in automated question triage for social reference. Furthermore, the results will offer insights into designing user-participatory digital reference systems.

  • Extracting primitives from imagery plays an important task in visual information processing since the primitives provide useful information about characteristics of the objects and patterns. The human visual system utilizes features without difficulty for image interpretation, scene analysis and object recognition. However, to extract and to analyze feature are difficult processing. The ultimate goal of digital image processing is to extract information and reconstruct objects automatically. The objective of this study is to develop robust method to achieve the goal of the image processing. In this study, an adaptive strategy was developed by implementing Gabor filters in order to extract feature information and to segment images. The Gabor filters are conceived as hypothetical structures of the retinal receptive fields in human vision system. Therefore, to develop a method which resembles the performance of human visual perception is possible using the Gabor filters. A method to compute appropriate parameters of the Gabor filters without human visual inspection is proposed. The entire framework is based on the theory of human visual perception. Digital images were used to evaluate the performance of the proposed strategy. The results show that the proposed adaptive approach improves performance of the Gabor filters for feature extraction and segmentation.

Comparisons of Perceptions of Success, Grit, Aspirations, and Achievement Goal Orientation between Gifted and Non-gifted High School Students (영재와 평재 고등학생들의 성공에 대한 인식, Grit, 열망 및 성취목적 비교)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare gifted and non-gifted high school students on their perceptions of success, grit, aspirations, and achievement goal orientation. Of the 550 high school students surveyed from 4 high schools (i.e., two schools for gifted, two school for non-gifted) in three metropolitan cities, Korea, 496 (i.e., 153 gifted and 343 non-gifted) completed and returned the questionnaire yielding a total response rate of 90.18%. Measures of students' grit (i.e., consistency of interest, and perseverance of effort), aspirations (i.e., intrinsic aspirations - physical fitness, self-growth, affiliation, community contribution, and extrinsic aspirations - financial success, image, fame), achievement goal orientation (i.e., mastery, performance approach and performance avoidance), and perceptions of success (i.e., Success in life is pretty much determined by forces outside our control.) were administered. It was found that the majority of gifted students and non-gifted students perceived that "success is outside our control.", and chose 'hard-working' as the most influential factor on their success. 60.4% of non-gifted students chose 'wealthy family background' as the other most influential factor, whereas only 48.2% of gifted did. Gifted students had higher 'consistency of interest' and 'mastery goals' than non-gifted students. Hierarchical multiple regression analyses showed that grit (i.e., perseverance of effort) was the crucial contributors for enhancing both gifted and non-gifted students' mastery goals and performance approach goals. Results are discussed in relation to theoretical implications and school settings.

Exploring the effect of Learning Motivation type on Immersion According to the Non-Face-To-Face Teaching Method in the Major Classes for Preschool Teachers at Christian Universities (기독교 대학의 예비유아교사 전공수업에서 비대면수업 방식에 따라 학습동기 유형이 몰입에 미치는 영향 탐색)

  • This study verified the effect of learning motivation on immersion by non-face-to-face class method. For this purpose, 101 college students majoring in early childhood education were selected as research subjects. The average age of the study subjects was 22.6 years old, and 51 students took non-real-time non-face-to-face classes, and 50 students took real-time non-face-to-face classes. The study measured the level of immersion and the type of learning motivation after the non-face-to-face class was finished. The measured data were analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis and multiple regression analysis. As a result, in the results for all students, the performance approach goal had the most influence on immersion, and the mastery goal orientation had the next effect. Performance avoidance orientation had no effect. For students in non-face-to-face classes, performance approach goal orientation had an effect on immersion, and for students in real-time non-face-to-face classes, mastery goal orientation had an effect. The implications that can be obtained from the results of this study are as follows. First, non-real-time non-face-to-face classes should cover basic knowledge and skills so that there are no mistakes and failures. Second, non-real-time non-face-to-face classes should allow tasks with appropriate difficulty to be performed with a deadline. Third, real-time non-face-to-face classes should lower the fear of mistakes and failures.
