  • The main purpose of this study was to explore the development of knowledge about the appearance-reality distinction and the perspective-taking ability and to examine its relation. The subjects were 104 children, 13 boys and 13 girls each at the age of 3, 4, 5, and 6. The performance of four age groups were compared on illusion appearance-reality, color appearance-reality, perceptual perspective-taking, and cognitive perspective-taking tasks. The data were collected by individual testing and analyzed by the two-way ANOVA with repeated measures, one-way ANOVA and Pearson Correlation Coefficients. The major results were as follows. 1. In children's understanding of the appearance-reality distinction, significant differences were found between 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds, and 5-year-olds and 6-year-olds. While between 4-year-olds and 5-year-olds showed no such differences. Besides, gender did not affect the children's understanding of the appearance-reality distinction. 2. There was significant difference in performance according to the type of tasks. That is 3-year-olds perform better illusion appearance-reality distintion than color appearance- reality distintion, while 4, 5, 6 year old children's performance of color appearance-reality and illusion appearance-reality distinction showed no difference. 3. In children's ability of perceptual perspective-taking, significant difference was found between 3, 4, 5-year-olds and 6-year-old children. And in ability of cognitive and perspective-taking, significant difference was found between 3, 4-year-olds and 6-year-old children. Besides, gender did not affect the children's perceptual and cognitive perspective-taking. 4. • The effect of broodstock age on the spawning performance of cultured abalone, Haliotis discus hannai, was assessed for five age groups (3, 4, 5, 6, 7 years old). Spawning performance of the five age groups was assessed in terms of the percentage of spawning abalone, eggs per spawning female, fertilization rates, hatch rates and attachment rates per spawning. The percentage of spawning abalone increased along with broodstock age, reached maximum in female groups of 5- and 6-year age (60%), and in male group of 6-year age (100%), subsequently decreased in 7-year age group. The number of eggs produced per spawning also increased with broodstock age, and the maximum was found in 6-year age. Although the number of spawned eggs for the oldest abalone declined, it still spawned much more eggs than 3, 4, and 5 years old females. The fertilization and hatch rates were obviously larger for 4-6 years old group than the younger and older abalones. The maxima were found in 5-year age group (96.0% and 84.5%), and the minimum were appeared in 7-year age group (79.3% and 58.2%). The attachment rate increased with broodstock age, reached maximum in 6-year age group (33.6%), although the increment gradually declined. The attachment rate for 7-year age group rapidly decreased (16.6%). These results suggested that broodstock age affected the spawning performance of H. discus hannai, which peaked between 5 and 6 years old, and broodstock should be bred during this period for hatchery production.

  • In this paper, we provide predictive models for the market price of fruits, and analyze the performance of each fruit price predictive model. The data used to create the predictive models are fruit price data, weather data, and Korea composite stock price index (KOSPI) data. We collect these data through Open-API for 10 years period from year 2011 to year 2020. Six types of fruit price predictive models are constructed using the LSTM algorithm, a special form of deep learning RNN algorithm, and the performance is measured using the root mean square error. For each model, the data from year 2011 to year 2018 are trained to predict the fruit price in year 2019, and the data from year 2011 to year 2019 are trained to predict the fruit price in year 2020. By comparing the fruit price predictive models of year 2019 and those models of year 2020, the model with excellent efficiency is identified and the best model to provide the service is selected. The model we made will be available in other countries and regions as well.

  • Background: This study evaluates the existing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) knowledge and skills of 1 st year dental students and also compares their CPR performance skill with those of 4 th year students. Methods: Incoming 1 st year and 4 th year dental students were surveyed about the level of their CPR knowledge before conventional CPR instruction. After we trained them for CPR performance, we tested CPR performance skill to randomly selected 10 1st year and 4 th year dental students and compared their CPR performance. Results: Overall CPR knowledge was low for both 1 st and 4 th year dental students. Especially, only 1 among 89 fourth year dental students answered the right sequence of CPR revised in 2010. Overall CPR performance was relatively low for both 1 st and 4 th year dental students. Irrespective of previous experiences of CPR education, their CPR performance was not statistically different. Conclusions: Retraining of CPR is a necessity. Information about the existing CPR knowledge for dental students will aid in establishing the goal of future CPR training and improve the current deficiency.

  • The present research studied the effectiveness of specific strategy training in memory awareness on children's memory performance. The subjects were 60 children, 30 six-year-olds and 30 eight-year-olds. Free recall scores and use of a rehearsal strategy (exposure durations) based on Belmont & Butterfield (1971) were used to measure children's performance in three memory tasks. All subjects were randomly assigned to one of three experimental groups: the control group with no training, the chunking and rehearsal strategy training group, and the chunking and rehearsal strategy training combined with memory awareness strategy. The data were analyzed with two-way ANOVA, three-way ANOVA with repeated measures, and Student-Newman-Keuls post hoc test. There were significant differences among the three groups both in the free recall score and in the use of the rehearsal strategy. The mnemonic strategic training with memory awareness strategy was the most effective on both free recall and use of rehearsal strategy. The effects of the mnemonic strategy training with memory awareness strategy were more effective for the 8-year-olds than the 6-year-olds.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to propose useful suggestions by analyzing difference of financial performance between "Excellent Quality Competitiveness Enterprise(EQCE)" awarding companies and all the manufacturing companies during the period 2003-2014 and by testing the moderating effects of performance year. Methods: This paper perform the longitudinal study during the period 2003-2014. The collected data through list of National Quality Award and financial report of CRETOP were analyzed using independent-sample t-test, paired-sample t-test, one way ANOVA and empirical analysis. Results: The results of this study are as follows; EQCE showed higher growth rate than all the companies until 2008, but profitability, stability, and activity are not significantly different between the both. Therefore EQCE have partial influences on growth rate among several financial performance measures until 2008. Since 2009 there are no differences. The effects of EQCE on financial performance are different by the year. Conclusion: EQCE award system was a meaningful promotion method to enhance good financial performance through encouraging quality management for the manufacturing companies until 2008, But since 2009 it is expected to lose its role as a promoting tool for quality management and performance excellence. Therefore new way of thinking for EQCE, as a national quality award system, is necessary; changing awarding system, award criteria, or etc.

  • Studies have shown that the thermal performance of buildings changes depending on the year of construction completion. It leads to increased energy consumption of buildings and significant financial burden on users. Thus, this study has calculated the thermal insulation performance of 86 apartments quantitatively, using temperature difference ratio and sensible heat flux. Also, energy consumption characteristics depending on the year of construction completion and thermal insulation performance were analyzed by comparatively analyzing the results of insulation performance evaluation and heating costs. The analysis results are as follows. As for thermal insulation performance, it was around 70% lower in the apartments completed before 1985, compared to apartments completed after 2010. As for heating costs, the apartments with the highest heating cost incurred 1.5 higher heating cost than the apartment with the lowest heating cost. In terms of the insulation performance evaluation, the difference was 2.5-fold.
