Reexamining Brecht's theoretical hypotheses in terms of cognitive science, this essay arrived at several temporary interpretations. Cognitive science implies that empathy can precede the rational understanding in Verfremdungseffekt. The spectator tends to simulate the unfamiliar incident and character and feels the consequential embodied emotion that leads to the cognitive understanding. The similar situation can be found in social gestus. According to cognitive science, gesture(social gestus) is simulated in the mirror-neuron of spectator, arousing consequently the embodied emotion that triggers the succeeding understanding. The spectator apts to experience and feel physically the moving gesture before decoding it as a social signification. Brecht's intention that attempts to reveal the duality of actor and character by eliminating the fourth wall is negated by cognitive science. According to the theory of conceptual blending, the spectator under the eliminated fourth wall mixes actor and character, and simulates this blending image so that he experiences it imaginatively. As such, another kind of illusion can be formed when a fourth wall is collapsed. Meanwhile, the critical thinking of spectator Brecht wanted can be hard to occur during the performance. It is necessary for the spectator to recollect the bygone dialogue and action in terms of social context as if he presses the pause, stopping the playback while watching a play in video. In this respect the social meaning Brecht intended can be achieved more effectively by the stop motion like tableau. It would not only give the time for the spectator to consider the implied social signification, but also make him possible to decode a semiotic meaning as if interpreting a still picture. Or it can be delivered by the dialogue that expresses the playwright's critical judgement. In this case, the subject of critical thinking is not the spectator but the author. The alternative explanation that the cognitive science suggests illuminates theoretically the reasons why Brecht's theory fails to be realized in practice. In a sense, Brecht's theory is nothing but a theoretical hypothesis. It takes the premise that the emotion hinders the rational thinking, understanding emotion and reason oppositively like Plato. This assumption is negated easily by the recent cognitive science that sees the reason as a by-product of physical experience including emotion. The rational understanding, in this sense, begins from the embodied emotion. As such the cognitive science denies the dichotomy of emotion and reason that Brecht adopted. The theoretical hypothesis of cognitive science makes us recognize again the importance of bodily experience in theatre. In theatre the spectator tends to experience physically before decoding the intellectual meaning. The spectator Brecht wanted, therefore, is far from the reality. The spectator usually experiences and reacts physically before decoding the meaning critically. Thus Brecht's intention can be realized by the embodied emotion resulted from simulation. This tentative interpretation suggests that we need to pay more attention to the empirical study of spectatorship, not remaining in a speculative study.
The expansion of the performing arts market to include new genres of art that combine art and cutting-edge media technology has surpassed the limitations of traditional theatre art elements such as stage, costumes, lighting, sound, and props, allowing free expression of space-time and visual art. It is growing into a wide area with unlimited potential in the performing arts sector. In response to these changes and the demands of the time, there is an increasing demand for multi-talents who can plan and produce arts and technology-converged contents that will contribute to the development of the performing arts industry. As a result, university departments related to theatre art across the country feel that it is urgent to develop curricula that will enhance students' competency by incorporating the latest media technologies such as virtual reality, holography, and interactive motion sensors into the existing performance art visualization process. In this study, the author will examine the process of developing courses in technology-incorporated theatre art (design) through case studies of media technology-converged performances from the past 10 years. Based on the traditional concept of theatre art, the attempt to fuse stage art with media technology will be a cornerstone of attempts to foster a group of talented artists who transcend the limits of creative visual expression and creative value.

In 21st century, theater evolves into a complex aspects. Advanced visual media, such as photography and movies has brought crisis to theater's position, and that crisis led contemporary theater seek for distinctive strategy by repeatedly pondering over the format in which it can be more competitive than other arts. And postdramatic theatre is one of distinctive characteristics of this trend in contemporary theater. Among these flows, The aim of thesis is to study the phenomenon of postdramatic theatre and its practical application in the recently performed (2019) by Theater Group "Mul-Kyul". (2019) puts the body at the front, one of the features of the postdramatic theatre. When creating stage, or developing narratives, the process of characterization, or even highlighting dramatic themes, non-verbal focused theatrical expressions hold a dominant position over verbal expressions. Also, by combining various non-verbal elements like object, with body language, it builds a complex Scenography and creates a metaphorical expression. In this regards, I would like to classify the postdramatic theatre phenomenon shown in the (2019) into 'Disorganization of text through Scenography' and 'Collage of Body Language and Object' and consider its characteristics and meanings.
Diaspora studies has become one of the fastest growing field in the humanities over the past several decades, and the use of term diaspora has been widening to include almost any population on the move. Diaspora literature not only mirrors but actively incorporates this new notion of diaspora with characters "at the threshold" navigating new territories and identities. Querying how diaspora studies intersects with theatre and performance, this paper attempts to probe how recent Korean American drama parallels and promotes diaspora studies' radical departure from traditional notions of identities and territories. For this purpose, this essay 1) examines theoretical affinities between diaspora studies and performance studies 2) investigates how Sung Rno's plays, Cleveland Raining and wAve, explore and embody multiple and evolving meanings of Korean diaspora on the stage 3) examines how theatre can create the third space that transcends both Korean and American nationalism and 4) speculates possibilities of reframing Asian American Studies as Asian diaspora studies. Korean American characters in Rno's play redirect diasporic identities, as their concern gradually moves from "where I come from" to "where I go to." Instead of remaining in the dark as a mere spectator, both Rno and his characters choose to be 'on' the stage where they can imagine, perform, and realize (however temporarily) "unimaginable community" by confronting their own social, political, and cultural ambivalence. Stage, the threshold between reality and fiction, Korea and America, and past and future, becomes their true 'home' where they incubate and precipitate "nation in transformation" that Yan Haiping argues for as "another transnational."
Recently, the convergence of genre-mixed collaboration and technology-mixed collaboration in performance art strategically fuses different goals and different properties, satisfying anticipated demand, and developing into experimental forms that bring out convergence contents of new value. To supplement problems of convergence attempts and heighten levels of completion, the effective collaborative processes of media experts must be studied and improved. This thesis attempts to study effective collaborative production plans of convergence performance that correspond to the demands of the times through multimedia convergence performance prototypes(Live performance play + Pre-made digital animation). It categorizes performance production processes into pre-production and production and researches the effective collaborative production processes of convergence performances that utilize these two forms of media through work selection, production direction establishment, human resource constituents, production schedule plan establishment, visualization processes, and performance practices and rehearsals. Continuous research must be conducted based on convergence performance contents planning, changes in production methods, and an understanding of distinct characteristics among convergence contents for the industrial development systemization and vitalization of convergence contents to be made possible.

An acoustical rating for the occupied hall of our National Theatre is presented for symphony orchestra and opera by theoretical estimation of various acoustical qualities from the basis of measured reverberation times in its vacant stste. The result is that by serious poverty of liveness a romantic music, typical symphony orchestra and even classical music are very difficult to be performed and only a baroque music is scarcely allowable to be performed in this hall. As for opera, wagnerians are difficult and italians are performable to some extent. Some discussions are given for which defects are more serious in this hall and some possible accustical corrections are also suggested for its better performance.
This paper describes the structural solution for the design of a 29-story high-rise tower, which features a large office space above the Kabukiza Theatre. Kabuki is a type of Japanese traditional drama, and Kabukiza is the home building of Kabuki. GINZA KABUKIZA is the fifth generation of the Kabukiza Theatre, the first of which was built in 1889. In order to support 23 stories of office space above the theater - featuring a large void in plan - two 13-meter-deep mega-trusses, spanning 38.4 meters, are installed at the fifth floor of the building. Steelwork is used as a primary material for the structure above-ground, and a hybrid response control system using a buckling-restrained brace and oil damper is adopted in order to achieve a high seismic performance. This paper also describes the erection process of installing hydraulic jacks directly above the mega-truss at column bases, in order to keep the structure above the truss level during construction. The temple architecture of the previous Kabukiza is carefully restored by incorporating contemporary light-weight materials supported by steelwork.
In recent years, a Zainichi playwright Jeong Ui Sin has been very active in the Korean theatre scene. However, the production of Yakiniku Dragon-first performed in Korea in 2008-which received numerous awards both in Japan and Korea gave him the recognition of Koreans' that was long overdue. In this paper, I will look closely into his two plays-Ineo Jeonseol (1990) and Yakiniku Dragon (2008)-which was written twenty-eight years apart from each other and reveal both similarities and differences between them in terms of the formation of post-colonial Zainichi identities. And to do so, I will utilize various opinions from post-colonial theories, performance studies theories, ethnic studies theories and theories on Zainichi Koreans. In the first, introductory chapter, I will delineate the theories on which this paper is based and some common factors of Jeong Ui Sin's 1990s plays as a point of departure. Then, I will move into the second chapter in which the two plays and actual productions of them will be closely examined to reveal different types of Zainichi identities and their social and cultural place within Japan by using Millie Creighton's concept of uchi others. In the third chapter, the identities of double negative (not not) and nomadic identities that are relevant to three types of Zainichi identity formation will be discussed. The fourth chapter will debate about various scholars' speculations about the future of Zainichi Koreans' identities and, finally, illuminate the changes/shifts that Jeong Ui Sin shows in terms of his stance as a Zainichi subject. In conclusion, even though it is very hard to speculate exactly what will happen to the Zainichi identity and their existence in Japan, the differences between the two plays-especially the endings-can be interpreted as revealing the changes in Jeong Ui Sin's Zainichi identity and it certainly sheds positive light on the future of the Zainichi identity and existence.
From 2010, new keyword of so-called devising theatre in the Korean performing arts scene has emerged. The backdrop is the antipathy to the hierarchical creative environment, the search for a language that can reflect increasingly complex societies, and the influx of new performances from abroad. Of course, devising theatre can be realized in a wide variety of forms in the actual field, so it cannot be defined as one methodology. But commonly all these various forms of the attempts aim to create a democratic relationship among participants, and process-centered breakthrough in the hierarchy of creative materials such as texts, sounds. light and human body. In 2017, Creative VaQi seeks to find new keyword called 'Reality of Division in Korean Peninsula' and to develop it into performance languages experimenting inter-disciplinary devising methodology. The company conducted a walking trip alongside the division line(300km) and tried to achieve the landscape and traces of division. After the walking, they created a specific form and performing contents called "Walking Holiday" out of their experiences. In this thesis, I will analyze the whole process of the devising "Walking Holiday" and examine what kind of result it led to. Furthermore, I, as the director of "Walking Holiday" will continue to discuss new possibilities and limitations of devising theatre methods that the company tries and aim at this time.
This study analyzed five official entries in the 3rd Cheong Kong Festival contest and analyzed the patterns of teen audience empathy. The tools used for this analysis were 'characters, acting, background and theme'. Firstly, characters were mostly teenagers and out-of-school teenagers, but there were other performances that focused on the relationship between teenagers and adults or focused on the youth, which the teen audience preferred. And they preferred realism acting to emotional acting and preferred musical acting to realism acting. In addition, the background of the events covered in the performance was evaluated to be like this: the closer the audience was to the youth, the higher the audience sympathized with the performance, and the closer the subject matter was to the youth's interest, the more positive it received. In summing up the opinions of the youth evaluation team, the first audience-participating Sinpa Theater, "Mr. X" was evaluated to expand the scope of teenagers to 20s and to show the negative and heavy reality as fun and beneficial one. Secondly, when it comes to non-prejudiced youth theatre "The Turtle", which have a high level of empathy, it was evaluated to shape the prejudice about others through the symbol of 'bag'. Thirdly, regarding the time-traveling retro-style youth theatre of the 'a jam-packed Bus', it was evaluated to be a well-made retro-style youth theatre. Regarding the 'Lunar Eclipse', which showed the aesthetic of the relationship, scenes were evaluated to be built with omission and restraint. Regarding "B Officer on and Love Letter", it was evaluated to be adapted to a musical from Hyun Jingun's novel, which was released 100 years ago. Lastly, the performance desired by the youth evaluation team was a performance with a high level of 'sympathy' and 'education'. In other words, they preferred performances that empathize with the emotions and thoughts of teenagers, and on the other hand, they wanted to see performances that allowed them to see the world broadly outside their own worlds. If youth theater is created by referring to the evaluation of youth as it is in this study, the audience will be more sympathetic to performances.
