  • In this paper, design and performance analysis of switched reluctance motor(SRM) according to design parameters are researched. The parameters which are senstive to the performance are examined and selected to have good performances. Some effective guide lines to have a good performance motor are suggested. Prototype machines are constructed to compare with the simulated and tested results.

  • While basic input parameters for the performance and noise of axial fan are flow rate, pressure rise, rotating speed, and fan diameter, the geometric parameters of blade are sweep angle, solidity, and camber angle. The sweep angle does not affect fan performance much, but on fan noise significantly. Solidity and camber angle are very critical design parameters acting on the fan performance directly. The solidity and camber angle are closely related, therefore they have to be carefully determined for the low-noise and high-performance fan. In This paper, different design points are selceted and also geometric parameters are deliberately changed for the comparison of fan noise. As a result, at the same performance, the input rotational speed affects radiated noise more significantly than others. When solidity and camber angle are increased more than those by iDesignFan/sup TM/ program, more noise is experienced. The blade sweep method and blade numbers at same solidity are observed to results in different levels of performance and noise.

  • Integral imaging is a promising technology for 3D imaging and display. Many parameters affect the performance of 3D integral imaging systems. Enhanced system performance is acquired by optimization of these system parameters with respect to defined performance metrics. In this paper, we present an approach to optimize the performance of 3D integral imaging system in terms of performance metrics under fixed resource constraints. In this analysis, system parameters such as lens numerical aperture, pitch between image sensors, the number of image sensors, the pixel size, and the number of pixels are determined to optimize performance metrics. Wave optics is utilized to describe the imaging process.

  • In MANET, the AODV routing protocol with on-demand method has a problem in large control packet overhead. In order to improve this, we first need a comprehensive analysis of correlation between performance metrics and factors affecting the performance of AODV. Selected parameters based on this analysis make it enable to be a more accurate and fair performance analysis, as well as to reduce the time and effort when constructing a scenario for performance analysis. In this paper, various scenarios are configured to apply AODV by varying the values of factors affecting the performance with network simulator QualNet 5.0, and then the results are analysed using performance metrics proposed by IETF MANET working group. This paper also founds a correlation between performance metrics and factors affecting the performance for AODV routing protocol, choosing the values of factors that represent many of the most maximum and minimum values of each performance metrics, and proposes optimal simulation parameters for a more accurate performance evaluation of routing protocols with minimal scenario in experiments. Next, performance comparison of AODV, DSR and DYMO routing protocols based on the proposed simulation parameters is shown which provides a comparative analysis on the performance of on-demand routing protocols. Results of this paper could be very useful for the researcher or service provider who wants to find nice simulation environment or select a proper routing protocol.

  • In this paper, we evaluate and compare the performance of speech/music discrimination based on various feature parameters and classifiers. As for feature parameters, we consider High Zero Crossing Rate Ratio (HZCRR), Low Short Time Energy Ratio (LSTER), Spectral Flux (SF), Line Spectral Pair (LSP) distance, entropy and dynamism. We also examine three classifiers: k Nearest Neighbor (k-NN), Gaussian Mixure Model (GMM), and Hidden Markov Model (HMM). According to our experiments, LSP distance and phoneme-recognizer-based feature set (entropy and dunamism) show good performance, while performance differences due to different classifiers are not significant. When all the six feature parameters are employed, average speech/music discrimination accuracy up to 96.6% is achieved.

  • In digital communicatioin networks, speech recognition systems conventionally reconstruct speech followed by extracting feature [parameters. In this paper, we consider a useful approach by incorporating speech coding parameters into the speech recognizer. Most speech coders employed in the networks represent line spectral pairs as spectral parameters. In order to improve the recognition performance of the LSP-based speech recognizer, we introduce two different ways: one is to devise weighed distance measures of LSPs and the other is to transform LSPs into a new feature set, named a pseudo-cepstrum. Experiments on speaker-independent connected-digit recognition showed that the weighted distance measures significantly improved the recognition accuracy than the unweighted one of LSPs. Especially we could obtain more improved performance by using PCEP. Compared to the conventional methods employing mel-frequency cepstral coefficients, the proposed methods achieved higher performance in recognition accuracies.

  • Effects on tractive performance of design parameters of cage wheel as a traction aid to driving tires of tractor in wet paddy field were investigated experimentally. an experimental cage wheel was designed so that the design parameters such as wheel diameter, wheel width, lug pitch and lug angle could be varied during traction test, The traction test was conducted in two different types of wet paddy field ; shallow and deep harpan fields . Experimental results showed that tractive performance is affected by both soil conditions and the design parameters. A considerable improvement on the tractive performance was obtained by using a cage wheel with 45$^{\circ}$ lug angle in shallow hardpan and smaller lug pitch in deep hardpan. The diameter of cage wheel was mostly influential to the tractive performance both in shallow and deep hardpans.

  • This paper presents a method of optimal design of an automatic transfer system which is controlled by the electro-pneumatic servo scheme. The electro-pneumatic automatic transfer system can move parts to desired points or displace defective parts. The dynamic performance of the system can be examined by observing the behavior of the output. The output of the servo control system is the motion of the cylinder, pneumatic actuator. The dynamic performance of the cylinder is governed by the parameters of the components of the entire system. The optimal design can be accomplished by selecting of the parameters such that the desired dynamic performance of the cylinder is obtained. The optimal set of parameters might be obtained through the repeated simulations. Repeated simulations, however, is not effective to determine the optimal set of parameters since the set of parameters is large. This paper presents modeling, application of an optimization method, and the numerical results. The optimization algorithm utilizes the concept of the conjugate gradient method. The results show that the suggested optimization scheme can render faster convergence of iteration compared to other method based on an algebraic optimization method and can reduce the design efforts.

The effects of different operating parameters on the performance of PEM fuel cell studied using pure hydrogen on the anode side and air on the cathode side. The various parameters are temperatures, pressures, humidification of the gas steams and various combinations of these parameters. In addition, geometrical and material parameters such as the gas diffusion layer (GDL) thickness and porosity as well as the ratio between the channel width and the land area were investigated.

  • In this article we study the feasibility of the Ant Colony Optimisation (ACO) algorithm for finding optimal Kanban allocations in Kanban systems represented by Stochastic Petri Net (SPN) models. Like other optimisation algorithms inspired by nature, such as Simulated Annealing/Genetic Algorithms, the ACO algorithm contains a large number of adjustable parameters. Thus we study the influence of the parameters on performance of ACO on the Kanban allocation problem, and identify the most important parameters.
