  • To ensure the safe operation of offshore plants, a system is needed for evaluating the equipment performance and for monitoring the results. Currently, owing to the operating environments of of shore plants situated far from the land, measurement data must be periodically stored in storage devices and carried on the land for evaluating the equipment performance. Consequently, it is difficult to prevent equipment failure because the performance evaluation cycle is long. Furthermore, until the next performance evaluation is conducted, it is difficult to determine the equipment's degree of performance degradation. Hence, it is necessary to install an onboard equipment performance monitoring system within the offshore plant. In this study, to evaluate and visualize the results of equipment performance within an offshore plant, a database was designed as the initial step towards the development of an equipment performance monitoring system. The tag data of major equipment were selected and analyzed. Furthermore, in order to store and manage the data measured in real time within the offshore plant, a database was developed for the onboard equipment performance monitoring system.

  • In bridge engineering, maintenance strategies and thus budgetary demands are highly influenced by construction type and quality of design. Nowadays bridge owners and planners tend to include life-cycle cost analyses in their decision processes regarding the overall design trying to optimize structural reliability and durability within financial constraints. Smart permanent and short term monitoring can reduce the associated risk of new design concepts by observing the performance of structural components during prescribed time periods. The objectives of this paper are the discussion and analysis of influence line or influence field approaches in terms of (a) an efficient incorporation of monitoring information in the structural performance assessment, (b) an efficient characterization of performance indicators for the assessment of structures, (c) the ability of optimizing the positions of sensors of a monitoring system, and (d) the ability of checking the robustness of the monitoring systems applied to a structure. The proposed influence line- model correction approach has been applied to an integrative monitoring system that has been installed for the performance assessment of an existing three-span jointless bridge.

  • This paper proposes a model of the real time monitoring system based on Ubiquitous Sensor Network (USN) for the detection and prediction of landslides. For this purpose, the real time monitoring system with tilting sensor and USN was set up and the performance was conducted. The performance was accomplished by conducting both field examinations and the experimental evaluation of the monitoring system. The results of this study show that the movements detected by the sensor module coincide with the actual displacement of field and the data measured from the sensor modules through USN transfer to the monitoring system without errors.

  • Recently, development and application of condition monitoring and diagnostic system for improvement of durability and reliability and reduction of operating cost is generalized in the aircraft propulsion system. Expecially, for reliable operation of the high altitude and a long time and condition monitoring system to identify faults and degradations of its propulsion system should be needed. This work proposed a GUI-based On-line condition monitoring program using LabVIEW by PT6A-67 turboprop engine. The proposed on-line condition program can monitor the real engine performance as well as the trend through precise comparison between performance results calculated by the base performance simulation program and measuring engine performance signals. In the development phase of this monitoring system, a signal generation module is proposed to evaluate the proposed on-line monitoring system.

  • This paper introduces the Performance Monitoring System(PMS) in a thermal power plant. The purpose of the PMS is to offer the operator current performance information of plant which could be an index of plant status or information to improve plant efficiency. The PMS of Bukcheju thermal power plant unit #2&3 is implemented under the SIEMENS DCS which supplies about 150 function blocks for performance calculation and all measured signals. The performance of unit, boiler, turbines, feedwater heaters, condenser, airpreheaters, feedwater pumps will be monitored and updated for every 5 minutes in PMS of Bukcheju TPP.

  • Loan monitoring is a fundamental element of credit control. The importance of loan monitoring is to reduce loan defaults and to increase loan repayment performance. The ex-post monitoring can also increase the loan quality and thus a concern to many creditors in the market economy. This study identifies the role of ex-post monitoring on loan repayment performance in the context of rural Vietnam. Employing primary data from rural areas of Vietnam, this study investigates the impacts of ex-post monitoring on loan repayment performance of individual borrowers in terms of on-time loan repayment and the rate of loan repayment. Descriptions of borrower demographics, loan information, and ex-post monitoring show the initial picture of borrowers and loans in Vietnam's rural areas. Quantitative estimations that use the Probit and the Tobit model confirm the argument that better ex-post monitoring would result in better loan repayment performance in both on-time repayment and repayment rate. Thus, some policy suggestions have been made to improve the monitoring system in each financial institution. The study also indicates that some other factors too affect loan repayment performance such as borrower's characteristics (education, agricultural working area, and income) as well as loan's characteristics (loan size, maturity, and loan purpose).
