Engineered Cementitious Composite (ECC) is a special class of the new generation of high performance fiber reinforced cementitious composites (HPFRCC) featuring high ductility with relatively low fiber content. In this research, the mechanical performance of ECC beams will be investigated with respect to the effect of slag and aggregate size and amount, by employing nonlinear finite element method. The validity of the models was verified with the experimental results of the ECC beams under monotonic loading. Based on the numerical analysis method, nonlinear parametric study was then conducted to evaluate the influence of the ECC aggregate content (AC), ECC compressive strength ($f_{ECC}$), maximum aggregate size ($D_{max}$) and slag amount (${\phi}$) parameters on the flexural stress, deflection, load and strain of ECC beams. The simulation results indicated that when increase the slag and aggregate size and content no definite trend in flexural strength is observed and the ductility of ECC is negatively influenced by the increase of slag and aggregate size and content. Also, the ECC beams revealed enhancement in terms of flexural stress, strain, and midspan deflection when compared with the reference beam (microsilica MSC), where, the average improvement percentage of the specimens were 61.55%, 725%, and 879%, respectively. These results are quite similar to that of the experimental results, which provides that the finite element model is in accordance with the desirable flexural behaviour of the ECC beams. Furthermore, the proposed models can be used to predict the flexural behaviour of ECC beams with great accuracy.

The mathematical modelling of screw compressor processes and its implementation in their design began about 30 years ago with the publication of several pioneering papers on this topic, mainly at Purdue Compressor Conferences. This led to the gradual introduction of computer aided design, which, in turn, resulted in huge improvements in these machines, especially in oil-flooded air compressors, where the market is very competitive. A review of progress in such methods is presented in this paper together with their application in successful compressor designs. As a result of their introduction, even small details are now considered significant in efforts to improve performance and reduce costs. Despite this, there are still possibilities to introduce new methods and procedures for improved rotor profiles, design optimisation for each specified duty and specialized compressor design, all of which can lead to a better product and new areas of application. A review of methods and procedures which lead to modern screw compressor practice is presented in this paper. This paper is intended to give a cross section through activities being done in mathematical modelling of screw compressor process through last five decades. It is expected to serve as a basis for further contributions in the area and as a challenge to the forthcoming generations of scientists and engineers to concentrate their efforts in finding future and more extended approaches and submit their contributions.

Material non-linearity of Reinforced Concrete (RC) framed structures is studied by modelling concrete using the Concrete Damage Plasticity (CDP) theory. The stress-strain data of concrete in compression is modelled using the Hsu model. The structures are analyzed using a finite element approach by modelling them in ABAQUS / CAE. Single bay single storey RC frames, designed according to Indian Standard (IS):456:2000 and IS:13920:2016 are considered for assessing their maximum load carrying capacity and failure behavior under the influence of gravity loads and lateral loads. It is found that the CDP model is effective in predicting the failure behaviors of RC frame structures. Under the influence of the lateral load, the structure designed according to IS:13920 had a higher load carrying capacity when compared with the structure designed according to IS:456. Ultra High Performance Fiber Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC) strip is used for strengthening the columns and beam column joints of the RC frame individually against lateral loads. 10mm and 20mm thick strips are adopted for the numerical simulation of RC column and beam-column joint. Results obtained from the study indicated that UHPFRC with two different thickness strips acts as a very good strengthening material in increasing the load carrying capacity of columns and beam-column joint by more than 5%. UHPFRC also improved the performance of the RC frames against lateral loads with an increase of more than 3.5% with the two different strips adopted. 20 mm thick strip is found to be an ideal size to enhance the load carrying capacity of the columns and beam-column joints. Among the strengthening locations adopted in the study, column strengthening is found to be more efficient when compared with the beam column joint strengthening.
Conventional Piezoelectric Energy Harvesters (CPEH) have been extensively studied for maximizing their electrical output through material selection, geometric and structural optimization, and adoption of efficient interface circuits. In this paper, the performance of Stepped Piezoelectric Energy Harvester (SPEH) under harmonic base excitation is studied analytically, numerically and experimentally. The motivation is to compare the energy harvesting performance of CPEH and SPEHs with the same characteristics (resonant frequency). The results of this study challenge the notion of achieving higher voltage and power output through incorporation of geometric discontinuities such as step sections in the harvester beams. A CPEH consists of substrate material with a patch of piezoelectric material bonded over it and a tip mass at the free end to tune the resonant frequency. A SPEH is designed by introducing a step section near the root of substrate beam to induce higher dynamic strain for maximizing the electrical output. The incorporation of step section reduces the stiffness and consequently, a lower tip mass is used with SPEH to match the resonant frequency to that of CPEH. Moreover, the electromechanical coupling coefficient, forcing function and damping are significantly influenced because of the inclusion of step section, which consequently affects harvester's output. Three different configurations of SPEHs characterized by the same resonant frequency as that of CPEH are designed and analyzed using linear electromechanical model and their performances are compared. The variation of strain on the harvester beams is obtained using finite element analysis. The prototypes of CPEH and SPEHs are fabricated and experimentally tested. It is shown that the power output from SPEHs is lower than the CPEH. When the prototypes with resonant frequencies in the range of 56-56.5 Hz are tested at 1 m/s2, three SPEHs generate power output of 482 μW, 424 μW and 228 μW when compared with 674 μW from CPEH. It is concluded that the advantage of increasing dynamic strain using step section is negated by increase in damping and decrease in forcing function. However, SPEHs show slightly better performance in terms of specific power and thus making them suitable for practical scenarios where the ratio of power to system mass is critical.

In this paper, a study result to decide the accuracy specifications of inertial sensors satisfying the performance requirements of SINS(ship's inertial navigation system) is proposed. To do this, the performance specifications of overseas SINS is surveyed and the detailed error analysis of SINS at stationary condition is performed. Also, a new performance index to indicate the performance of SINS is derived. Modelling and simulation results show that the accuracy specifications of inertial sensors to meet the performance requirements of SIGMA40XP, a typical overseas SINS, can be determined through the newly derived performance index in this paper.
Purpose: This study aims to examine the effect of intellectual capital on both internal and external collaboration and its impact on distribution performance enhancement in public sector. Research design, data, and methodology: The study applied quantitative approach with the help of AMOS Structural Equation Modelling. The unit of analysis is the Indonesian local government. The research involved 430 leaders from local government agencies as respondents. Results: This study found that intellectual capital positively influences both internal and external collaboration as well as distribution performance. Furthermore, the current research confirms the different effect of internal collaboration and external collaboration on distribution performance; internal collaboration positively affects distribution performance, while the external one does not. Eventually, internal collaboration mediates the indirect effect of intellectual capital on distribution performance, whereas the external collaboration does not. Conclusions: This study strengthens and complements the lean stream by confirming the role of intellectual capital as critical antecedent of internal collaboration, external collaboration, and distribution performance. Moreover, this research underlines the critical role of internal collaboration as the intercourse which supports distribution performance enhancement in public sector. Lastly, the study highlights the benefits of external collaboration in distribution practice if appropriately and wisely managed.

When modelling lots of induction motors to design and configure an engine room simulator, the 2 parameters equivalent circuit has many practical benefits as it reduces working hours considerably without requiring complicated technical data from makers except the ratings of motors. The basic properties such as torque and load current are shown well matched with real cases by this method, but almost the only drawback of 2 parameters circuit is that it reveals inherently higher power factor in the whole operation range due to disregarding the exciting current of the induction motor to maximize the simplification. This paper suggests a modelling module as a practical tool to compensate the power factor by inserting a virtual compensation current into the load current from 2 parameters equivalent circuit, and the simulated results show satisfactory outputs and the improved power factor indication by performance curves when compared to the cases of 2 parameters-equivalent circuit.

Data assimilation techniques have received growing attention due to their capability to improve prediction in various areas. Despite of their potentials, applicable software frameworks to probabilistic approaches and data assimilation are still limited because the most of hydrologic modelling software are based on a deterministic approach. In this study, we developed a hydrological modelling framework for sequential data assimilation, namely MPI-OHyMoS. MPI-OHyMoS allows user to develop his/her own element models and to easily build a total simulation system model for hydrological simulations. Unlike process-based modelling framework, this software framework benefits from its object-oriented feature to flexibly represent hydrological processes without any change of the main library. In this software framework, sequential data assimilation based on the particle filters is available for any hydrologic models considering various sources of uncertainty originated from input forcing, parameters and observations. The particle filters are a Bayesian learning process in which the propagation of all uncertainties is carried out by a suitable selection of randomly generated particles without any assumptions about the nature of the distributions. In MPI-OHyMoS, ensemble simulations are parallelized, which can take advantage of high performance computing (HPC) system. We applied this software framework for several catchments in Japan using a distributed hydrologic model. Uncertainty of model parameters and radar rainfall estimates is assessed simultaneously in sequential data assimilation.
