Parameter Estimation for Digital Current Control of PWM Converters

  • From the viewpoint of model-based current control, it is indispensable to use the accurate system parameters for the high control performance. This paper adopts the Least-Squares algorithm as a parameter estimation scheme because it has the fast convergence rate and the low sensitivity to noises. In case of the intelligent current controller with delay compensator, the simulation results show that the adopted estimation scheme can be successfully applied to PWM converters and also show the improved control performance in the estimated parameters.

  • In this paper a method is presented for the optimal control of a nuclear reactor at equilibrium state by use of a digital computer. Using the optimal control theory, we formulate the control problem of the reactor as a discrete-time linear regulator problem. A quadratic performance index is defined. The effects of choosing different performance index weighting matrices to the feedback gain matrix and reactor transient responses are studied for the deterministic optimal control with all state variables accessible to measurement.

  • This paper presents a fuzzy modified PID controller that uses linear fuzzy inference method. In this structure, the proportional and derivative gains vary with the output of the system under control. 2-input PD type fuzzy controller is designed to obtain the varying gains. The proposed fuzzy PID structure maintains the same performance as the general-purpose linear PID controller, and enhances the tracking performance over a wide range of input. Numerical simulations and experimental results show the effectiveness of the fuzzy PID controller in comparison with the conventional PID controller.

  • This paper presents the control design of a three-module boost converter with a two-stage output filter. An advanced three-loop control scheme is employed to the control design in order to obtain good dynamic performance of the converter at the presence of the secondary filter stage. The paper presents the control design, dynamic analysis and performance improvement with the three-loop control.

  • Increasing flexibility and lightness of recently built high-rise buildings make the structures susceptible to loads such as earthquakes and winds. Therefore, higher performance vibration control systems to reduce the vibration levels are demanded more than any time in the past. One of typical active vibration control systems is the active mass damper(AMD). In this paper, an active vibration control system consisting of small shaking table, building model, sensors, signal processing board and AMD is constructed. The dynamic characteristics of these individual systems are investigated through the experimental study. The performance of the active vibration control system is verified through harmonic resonant load excitation on building model.

  • This paper presents an experimental study on the performance of the active damper device by feedback variables. The damper is a mass-typed active device, which exerts the inertia control force on the building by AC servo motor. The control performance is experimentally analyzed considering the building response and the control force. It is found that the building response is greatly reduced by mass-typed device under the resonant and earthquake loading. Also, the experimental results show that the velocity feedback reduces the building responses with the smallest amount of control force than any other feedback variables.

  • The suspension system plays an important role in vehicle performance. To improve suspension characteristics related to riding comfort and handling stability simultaneously, active suspension system is developed. In this study, a hybrid control scheme is proposed, the idea of which is that the sliding mode control is applied to nonlinear hydraulic system and the skyhook control is applied for controlling the motion of the suspension system. The performance of the proposed control method is evaluated by simulation and experiment of a half car active suspension system.

  • The performance study shows the result using two different methods which are used to control missile or aircraft. One is the Thrust Vector Control(TVC) method for the aviation of next generation and the other is the present effective Shroud Jet-vane System(SJVS) method for the satellite effector development. The research was done through the performance estimation using the numerical simulation analysis, the modelling, the performance measuring using the model, the investigation of the flow visualization and aerodynamic performance with the enforced power to the vane and the result comparison.

Fast Compensator of Periodic Disturbance in Disk Drives (디스크 드라이브의 주기적 외란 고속 보상 제어)

  • The control objective in hard disk drives is to move head as fast as possible to target track and position the head over the center of target track in the presence of external disturbances. The external shock or disk clamping error in manufacturing process causes the disk center to deviate from the disk rotation center. The disk shift acts on the control system as disturbance and degrades severely the performance of disk drives. In this paper, we present a new controller that compensates for the periodic disturbances very fast. The disturbance compensator is arranged in parallel with the state feedback controller. To avoid the interference with the state feedback controller, the compensator creates compensation signal without the feedback of system output until steady state. The pulse type controller is included additionally for improving the transient performance due to initial state. Finally, in order to demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed compensator. we present some experimental results using a commercially available disk drive.
