A Preliminary Study on the Wellness-Enhancing Effect of an App for the Development of the Self-Life Coaching App (셀프 라이프코칭 앱(App) 개발을 위한 앱의 웰니스 증진 효과에 대한 예비 연구)

  • Considering the necessity for individuals to check and manage their wellness to promote happiness, this study conducted preliminary research on the effect of wellness enhancement of the self-life coaching app. Thirty-six participants were randomly assigned to experimental groups 1 and 2 and a control group, respectively. In particular, the experimental groups were asked to perform self-life coaching for 4 weeks using a research app. Weekly feedback was provided to experimental group 1, but not to experimental group 2. The wellness index for workers (WIW) and the Korean wellness scale (KWS) were used as dependent variables. The analysis results of interaction effects between pre-, post-, and follow-up time points and groups reveal no statistically significant effects in both dependent variables, but the tendency of the effects was confirmed. Moreover, no difference was determined in terms of the presence or absence of weekly feedback in the experimental treatment effect. As a result of repeated measures variance analysis on KWS measured at five times, the wellness enhancement effect over time was statistically significant. Meanwhile, the polynomial trend analysis result confirmed the linear effect of the experimental treatment on wellness. The participation opinion survey also revealed that 84.2% of the participants perceived the activity to be helpful, and 78.9% responded that they would use it once every 1 or 2 weeks if the app is commercially available. This study is meaningful in that it suggests a methodology for utilizing the self-life coaching app so that anyone can use it to promote their wellness and partially confirms the effectiveness of this method.

Parenting Motives Moderate the Link between Parents' Relationship Satisfaction with their Children and Subjective Well-Being (양육 동기에 따른 자녀 관계 만족도와 주관적 안녕감)

  • Children play a crucial role in the lives of parents, but research on the parent-child relationship has focused mainly on its impact on parents' social relationships and happiness. This study explored how parenting motives affect the association between parents' relationship satisfaction with children and subjective well-being. Previous studies have suggested that the psychological benefits of achievement or positive experiences in specific life domains are dependent on the perceived importance of such domains. Thus, we hypothesized that a satisfying relationship with children can strongly predict the subjective well-being of parents with elevated parenting motives. The study included Korean (Study 1) and American (Study 2) participants. Results of both studies demonstrated a pronounced positive correlation between parents' relationship satisfaction with children and subjective well-being in individuals with high levels of parenting motives. This moderating effect persisted even after controlling for relevant covariates (e.g., gender, age, and Big 5 personality traits). Notably, this effect was particularly evident in subfactors of subjective well-being, which is negative affect.

Korean Society of 1980s and Minjoong Misool - Visual images of Mass Consumer Society and Re-thinking of the Critical Realism (1980년대 한국사회와 민중미술 - 대중소비사회의 시각이미지와 비판적 리얼리즘의 재고)

  • This paper intends to examine the significance of the "Minjoong Misool(People's art)" of the 1980s emerged in Korea in its social, cultural, and art historical context. This paper also aims to provide an analysis of the meaning and form of the individual artist's works, which have been overlooked under the dominant discourse that has emphasized their political role as a collective group. In particular, this paper scrutinizes the work of "Critical Realists" by examining the way in which they perceived Korean society in the early 1980s and visualized their experiences of the period. The figurative art newly emerged in the early 1980s challenged the formalist Modernism, which was adopted into Korea and translated into monochrome paintings and the work of the conversative academicism of the 1970s. The figurative art encouraged a social communication and moreover it intended to criticize the conflicts in the political, economical, and social domains in Korea. The targets of its critique include the unavoidable results of the unprecedented development of economy, various social phenomena of the post-industrial society, and the growth of the commercialized kitsch culture. Along with Shin, Hak-chul's work that incorporates collage technique since the 1980s, the work of some members of "Reality and Utterance" and "Im- sul-nyun" exemplify their critical interests in disclosing the false dream of wealth and happiness by both referring to and drawing on the utopian fantasy manipulated and distributed by mass media and commercial advertisements. This paper pays particular attention to Nouvelle Figuration emerged in France and Europe during the 1960s, which is comparable to the new figurative art emerged in Korea during the 1980s. Nouvelle Figuration criticized the autonomy in art isolated itself from political and social reality after WWII, in particular the indifference of Informel and abstract art as well as American abstract art. Moreover it became rather politicized around May of 1968. Given that French Nouvelle Figuration was introduced in Korea in 1982 and made a significant contribution to the formation of figurative art in Korea, it should be noted that the new figurative art emerged in the 1980s in Korea cannot be categorized merely in relation to People's Art. This paper intends to critically redress the notion that People's art was formed in the particular political, economical, and cultural context of Korea independent of the contemporary artistic practices outside Korea. It will provide a critical examination and analysis of the content and form of the new figurative art, from which People's Art was germinated, in the global context.

Analysis of personality level of students of industrial-field specialized high schools and Meister high schools (공업계열 특성화고 및 마이스터고 학생의 인성 수준 조사 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the personality level of industrial-field specialized high schools and Meister high schools. The study objective for this is to analyze the differences per background variable and personality level of students of industrial-field specialized high schools and to analyze the differences per background variable and personality level of students of industrial-field Meister high schools. The study result is as follows. First, students of industrial-field specialized high schools showed personality level above normal in all 10 virtues, but this value fell short of the average for high school students suggested in Hyeon et al(2014). Second, students of industrial-field Meister high schools showed personality level above normal in all 10 virtues, and compared to the average for high school students suggested in Hyeon et al.(2014), categories of consideration and communication, manners, honesty/courage, and justice showed values below average. Third, students of industrial-field specialized high schools and Meister high schools showed differences in personality level according to nurturing style of parents, respect for teachers, stress for academic achievement, and school satisfaction, and additionally, students of Meister high schools showed differences in personality level according to career plans. That is, when the student perceived his/her parents to put higher value on his/her happiness rather than academic achievement, when the student respected the teacher, and when the student was more satisfied with te school life, the student showed higher personality level, and in case of students of Meister high schools, the student with detailed plan for his/her career showed high personality level than the student who has not yet decided on his/her career.
