This study examines the effects of disclosing sales commissions pertaining to an influencer discount code on perceived sincerity of an influencer and attitude toward using the discount code. In Study 1, consumers participated in a two-cell (commission disclosure: absent vs. present) between-subjects experimental design. In Study 2, consumers participated in a two (commission disclosure: absent vs. present) by two (discount level: low vs. high) between-subjects experimental design. The findings of Study 1 demonstrate that the sales commission disclosure pertaining to discount codes results in a higher perceived sincerity of the influencer. The results of Study 1 also reveal that the perceived sincerity of the influencer mediates the effect of the disclosure (vs. no disclosure) on attitude toward using the discount code. Further, the findings of Study 2 demonstrate the robustness of these disclosure effects regardless of whether the discount level is low or high.
Purpose - Pricing strategy is a very effective marketing activity and has a significant impact on consumer purchasing decisions. Numerous studies have investigated the effects of various pricing strategies. However, tensile price claims have received little attention in the literature. It is thus necessary to investigate how different forms of tensile price claims affect consumer response. This study uses the consumer self-confidence level as a moderator of consumer behavior. Research Research design, data, and methodology - This study investigates the effect of four different tensile price claims (i.e., maximum discount, minimum discount, average discount, and range discount advertisements) on consumers' perceived savings. A survey was conducted to collect data for testing hypotheses. Results - The results show that consumers with high levels of self-confidence perceive more savings for maximum discount advertisements than minimum discount advertisements, for range discount advertisements than average discount advertisements. On the other hand, consumers with low self-confidence feel more perceived savings for average discount advertisements than range discount advertisement. Conclusions - The results of this study provide a new insight into the effectiveness of tensile pricing based on consumer self-confidence levels, which may provide valuable theoretical and practical applications.
One of the major reasons for fierce competition among firms is that they strive to increase their own market shares in the same market with similar and apparently undifferentiated products in terms of quality and perceived benefit. Due to such changes in the marketing environment, differentiated after-sales service and diversified promotion strategies have become more important in the race to gain a competitive advantage. Price discount is one of the popular promotion strategies that most retailers use, especially to increase sales, but offering a price discount does not always lead to the expected result. If marketers apply an identical price-promotion strategy without considering the characteristic differences in products and consumer preferences, the discounted price itself may make people skeptical about the quality of the product. Moreover, the changes in perceived value may appear differently depending on factors such as consumer involvement. This implies that variables such as the level of consumer involvement, brand loyalty, and external reference prices, in reality, would have different effects on how consumers perceive the value of price discounts. The variables that affect consumers' perceived values and buying decisions are diverse and complicated. Several studies have examined the effects of such variables as external reference price, selling price, and brand on consumers' perceived value of products. Results have not shown consistent patterns. Therefore, we must note that the factors affecting consumers' value perceptions and buying behaviors are diverse and that the results of studies on the same dependent variable come out differently depending on what that variable is. This study focused on the level of consumer involvement as a salient variable that supposedly affects the perceived value of a product, willingness to buy, and search intentions. We tried to examine whether a price discount affects the perceived value-such as perceived acquisition value and perceived transaction value-in different ways depending on the level of consumer involvement. In addition, we proposed managerial implications that marketers need to consider as a whole, for instance, product attributes, brand loyalty, and involvement and then established a differentiated pricing strategy, case by case, in order to effectively enhance consumers' perceived values. As a result, we found that perceived transaction value positively affects perceived acquisition value and when discounting the price of a high-involvement product enhances the consumer's willingness to buy, but perceived acquisition value does not affect the search intentions significantly. In the case of discounting prices of low-involvement products, on the other hand, the perceived transaction value has a positive effect on the willingness to buy, but the negative effect of perceived acquisition value on the search intentions was not significant. We suppose that people doubt a product's quality because of a declined perceived quality derived from a price discount. Even though the price discount enhanced the transaction value, people eventually increased their level of searching for additional product information. From the results of this study, we suggest that marketers ought to establish an appropriate value-enhancing strategy based on the understanding of which perceived value consumers rely on more when they conduct purchasing behavior because consumers perceive the degree of importance of acquisition value or transaction value differently, depending on their level of involvement.
Purpose Product characteristics and price value in website have strongly effects on customer satisfaction. Especially, in the online shopping site, the scarcity limits the customer's opportunity to purchase the product. Thus scarcity has been proposed as a important factor that makes the customer highly aware of the merchantability of the product. The scarcity in the web store is used as an important variable to make purchasing decisions of users easier by psychological pressure. In the case of scarce products with price discounts in online commerce, advertising formats that highlight scarcity value in the web commerce market are very effective in enhancing purchase intentions of consumers. Unlike offline stores, the importance of scarcity becomes more important when reflecting the characteristics of online commerce. Therefore, this study intends to confirm the influence of the degree of price discounts and scarcity information presented by Web sites on consumer purchase behavior in Web purchase behavior. Design/methodology/approach This study conducted a web-based experimental study on price sensitivity and price discount. Therefore, we created experimental web-sites that offer two stimuli according to the discount rate. The 200 respondents were randomly assigned. The stimuli were fictitious based on tourism products. The first stimulus presented the price discount(15% discount) with basic explanation about the package of the tourist package. The stimuli assigned to the second group were used for groups with high price discount intensity(65% discount). In this way, the two stimuli clearly distinguished the level of price discount intensity. This paper conducted t-test analysis and structural equation to analyze the experiemental results after confirming the reliability and validity. Findings The results of this study are as follows. The difference in price discount intensity (15% vs 65%) with scarcity showed the mean difference among all the variables. Therefore, this study concluded that there is a significant difference between the price discount of 15% and 65% for the acquisition value and transaction value of users. In particular, consumers' purchase intention is greater and product recommendation intensity is stronger when the price discount is 65%. As a result, the high degree of the price discount intensity with scarcity exerts a greater influence on consumers' purchase intentions. Product scarcity also have a significant impact on perceived value of users. Therefore, purchase intention of customers increases when perceived value increases their profit and pleasure feeling.
The purpose of this research was to conduct an empirical research on the relations between perceived satisfaction level and value, brand attitude and repurchase intention after receiving price discount in such brand coffee shops as Starbucks, Coffee Bean, Angel-In-Us, and Caffebene. To do this, surveys were conducted in those 4 brands of coffee shops, distributing 100 copies of questionnaire each, from December 1st to December 31st, 2012. A total of 400 copies were collected for the final analysis, and the results are as follows. The level of satisfaction with price discount policy was displayed as causing a significant positive influence on hedonic and utilitarian values, and the hedonic and utilitarian values were identified as causing a significant positive influence on brand attitude and repurchase intention. Additionally, it was shown that brand attitude caused a significant positive influence on repurchase intention. A further analysis revealed that the number of customers who do not utilize the discount policy was highest in Starbucks, while the number of customers who utilize stamp coupons was displayed as the highest in Coffee Bean. In case of Angel-In-Us, the number of customers who use other price discount policies instead of stamp coupons was displayed as the highest, while the number of customers who utilize other price discount policies along with stamp coupons was displayed as the highest in Caffebene. Moreover, the level of satisfaction with price discount policies was higher for customers who use discount policies compared to those who do not.
The purposes of the study was to identify customers' satisfaction factors regarding foods and services in food courts in big department stores and discount stores in Seoul and Cheonan. A survey of 235 customers was conducted regarding customer satisfaction levels and factors of food and services. Customers' perceived level of attributes were identified into eight underlying dimensions by factor analysis as follows: factor 1 was "cleanliness": factor 2 "service quality": factor 3 "accuracy": factor 4 "atomosphere": factor 5 "food quality": factor 6 "menu information": factor 7 "price" and the eighth factor was "food result". Regression analysis indicated that "cleanliness" was found to be the most important factor contributing to customers' overall satisfaction. There were significant differences in customers' perceived satisfaction level of "food quality"(p<0.01), "accuracy", and "price" factors(p<0.05) between department stores and discount store. The customers' perceived satisfaction levels of "accuracy", "food quality" and "price" factor at a large store food court are higher than those of department store food court. Comparing location of food court, there were significant differences in customers' perceived satisfaction level of "accuracy" and "price" factors between in Seoul and Cheonan(p<0.001). The customers' perceived satisfaction levels of "accuracy" and "price" at the discount store in Seoul are lower than those of food court at Cheonan. It is suggested that the management should pay attention to the sanitation of their dinning halls, kitchens, hygienic dishes, hygienic water fountain, employee hygiene, and a proper place to put used dishes to increase the customers' satisfaction.

Price discount is one of the commonly used promotion strategies to increase sales and revenue. If a discount is perceived before the purchase (i.e., pre-purchase discount), consumers are likely to perceive it as a potential gain. If it is noticed after making a regular-priced purchase (i.e., post-purchase discount), consumers may develop negative emotions and attitudes. Based on the rising transparency and omnipresence of price and discount information through web and mobile platforms, we attempt to tackle an understudied topic on the negative effect of post-purchase price discount. Specifically, post-purchase discount information may increase consumers' perception of monetary loss, which may affect consumers' decision to return the product, potentially increasing the operating costs borne by retailers. Based on a close scrutinization of the current market environment and previous academic literature, we suggest a novel conceptual framework to understand consumers' perception, attitude, and behavior (perception of loss, willingness to return) upon perceiving various formats of discount promotion (absolute value vs. percentage discount) posterior to the purchase of a product. We also look at the effect of price level (low-priced vs. high-priced). For marketing practitioners, we intend to suggest optimal promotion formats that can alleviate consumers' negative perceptions and prevent additional operation costs.
This study tried to find out alternatives adjusting basic fare using customer survey. But it merely verified that train fare decision is made by government's role and market status. Also, it has a limitation deciding resonable fare of KTX that average cost and marginal cost calculation is impossible because Korean National Railroad does not follow 'Activity Based Costing'. It is rational fare decision that performing survey to railroad experts and general customers, and compare two results. Summarizing results of this study, 1. The hypothesis 'Experts' perceived fare level of KTX is higher than that of general customer. 'is carried. It suggests that following experts' opinion with general customer's is very rational method to decide fare level. 2. The hypothesis 'Experts expect lower level of fare discount rate than general customer.' is carried. 3. It is hard to decide priority among many kinds of discount for difference of two group's preference. However, following recent research project is maximized by discounting fare 30$\%$ on 40$\%$ of total passenger and expand number of discount kinds step by step are desirable.
The purpose of this study was to test the influence of restaurant customers' perceived price on their satisfaction and revisit intention through the examination of the mediating effects of emotional responses and the moderating role of coupons. Data was obtained from a survey conducted to 319 quick service restaurant customers and analyzed using SPSS 16 and AMOS 16. The results indicate a full mediation effect of perceived price on customer satisfaction through emotional responses. It was also noted that discount, free and entry coupons did moderate the influence of perceived price on customers' emotional responses. The strongest moderator for perceived price and positive emotions was a discount coupon followed by a free coupon and an entry coupon in order. For perceived price and negative emotions, an entry coupon had a higher moderating effect followed by a discount coupon. The study put forward an appropriate implication to restaurateurs on the use of coupons as well as emotional responses and perceived price that will effectively elevate customers' satisfaction level.
Purpose - Consumers heuristically have a specific stereotype on the price level of individual retail format because each format provides them with a different level of purchase satisfaction and emotional benefits. However, if price image which is consumers' overall impression of the aggregate price level of a retailer does not match with their expectations, its price level would be perceived as unfair. It will eventually lead to dissatisfaction and decreased revisit intention. Focused on department store and discount store, this study was designed to verify whether the price fairness plays a role of mediating effect on two influential relationships between price image and post-purchase satisfaction, and price image and repatronage intention. Research design, data, and methodology - A main survey was conducted to 140 students and 128 effective responses were used for the related analysis. T-test, factor analysis, reliability test, and mediated regression analysis were performed. Six hypotheses were developed to examine the mediating effect of price fairness on the two influential relationships between price image and post-purchase satisfaction, and price image and repatronage intention. It was also examined whether the price image of two different retail format is formed differently or not. Results - People perceived the price images of the two retail formats differently. Overall price level of department store is much higher than that of discount store. Analysis results showed that price image did not solely have a significant influence on post-purchase satisfaction unless price fairness as a mediating variable is added. Price fairness turned out to be having a significant influence on relationship between price image and repatronage intention. It influences on repatronage intention directly and also via price fairness. Conclusions - Post-purchase satisfaction can be achieved only if people perceive the price image as fair no matter how the price level is high or low according to traits of retail formats. If they think it's not fair, they would disapprove of the rightness for the price image, and also express their dissatisfaction with it. Consumers willingly make repeated visits to a store if they are convinced of appropriate price level which is perceived as fair, and if they experienced a satisfaction with overall benefits a particular store offered.
